Title: Something about the reviews?
Post by: Judex on Jun 03, 2012, 11:08 AM
I had browsed the Suggestions/Requests previously and saw someone else had a similar idea, but can't seem to find it now, and I know that yC denied it, saying it "doesn't really affect server reviews".

Accept that, really, it does.

The best example I can think of, is this:

http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=serverstat&serid=6671&itv=6&url_sname=Gathering%20RO&page_num=1 (http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=serverstat&serid=6671&itv=6&url_sname=Gathering%20RO&page_num=1)

As you can see, some of the recent reviews are attacking a specific GM purely because she's active (one of the few, if not only) and actually hands out punishments to those who break the rules.  She's shown that she can handle it, but at the same time, the ones who get punished and their friends come to RMS and leave bad reviews/bash her here, and make the server look terrible.  This has affected the population, because frankly, there hasn't been much growth on the server.  And a lot of traffic really comes from RMS.

Is there anything at all that could be done about that?  The reviews in question have been reported, yet nothing happens, at all.

Hit send too early...

Would it be possible, maybe, to treat reviews like a thread?  Maybe allow someone to reply only once to a review, in case the info given in the review is wrong, or something of that sort?  And have the responses collapsed, so you have to click to view them?  For example, underneath the review have (3 responses to this review. View?) and you click it to view the responses.... See what I mean? D:

This would probably cause a major flamewar. People get attacked even more and they can't defend themselves properly in case several people bash on them.
Also, a review is nothing to be 'voted' on. Person A may think that PvP is very competetive on Server XYZ, but person B may not think so. This shouldn't be to debate as everything is somewhat relative.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but there is no perfect system. Introducing such would require a whole new level of monitoring as well. Not only the normal reviews but even their answers have to be checked by the staff.

Other servers may comment on other people's reviews on other servers to falsify them. It's already enough that some are so bold to make reviews on other servers just to make them look bad.

Of course there are unfair reviews and I would love to see that this would change, but this just isn't possible as everyone is allowed to their own opinion. Some are just biased and pretty over-sensitive. ><

It's just sad that this is affecting server's, and there's nothing that can apparently be done about it.  :/

The person that owns the listing has the chance the reply to reviews with scores lower than (or equal to) 70.  If we let anyone to reply, that will be like a forum and create flame war like previously mentioned.

Maybe make it so you can reply once to any review of any grade - I know people who hit 70 on purpose just to be able to skip getting a reply.

Spoiler
I've done it teehee
[close]

Then people who score well can get a "thank you" too :O from the staff

And as you can see from the server reviews I linked too, it's only getting worse...  I guess that's the bad thing about punishing a well-known filipino.

The listing owner haven't come forward to make any reply to those reviews.  If the concern is about setting a bad image, replying and giving the other side of the story and showing a hint of how staff handle situations will help a lot.

Your suggestion is based on the believe that these reviews are false and they are simply "ganging" the listing.  I cannot agree with that, the reviews are just reviews.  They can represent honest opinions and people's experience of the server.  Who is to judge, for any situation, something has to be done because someone believe some reviews "look" wrong.  What if someone come up and tell you these are their honest reviews?  That would undone anything you suggested.

We'll have to stay neutral.

Methinks should be able to reply to all reviews once, but no replies to the reply... Same system, but applicable to all reviews regardless the rating the reviewer gave.

i.e. a review of 100/100 could receive an admin reply, just as a 21/100 can

Would make it impossible for reviewers to avoid a defense to their claims in that case, and it doesn't favour any side.

If you have to avoid the reply you have to give a score of 70, then your content will need to match the review somewhat.

The reply to all review was discussed way before, we don't want a thank you message after every review.

Aww sourpuss, it would be nice :( customer service nyaa

And you can do that, put 70 and justify it, and then sputter stuff at the same time :P I've done it and you've never caught me shortcake!

Well, I kind of agree with Yusifer on this. Not all Administrators will reply to everything--some would, some won't. Up to them how they spend their time I guess XD, if the suggestion that the owner can reply to any review once.

Well, either that or raise the score threshold. If there aren't any changes though, I still think the current system is alright just as long as the reviews are still being watched carefully or even more so.
