OSRO is the most welcoming server I've joined. You can begin playing the game from scratch, as there are freebies for newbies called "guild packs." This allows you to start with good gear. You get a full set of items to wear, some of which are real valuable like the cards and headgear. The GMs and support staff are helpful, and there are many guilds that assist newbies with the game. If you join the Discord, you'll be able to get support and ask questions to better understand the mechanics of this server.

There are mini-events like poring catcher, dice, mushroom hunts, and Cluckers every 20 minutes. There have also been GM and Server events that are great for newbies, as you'll be able to grab items that will help you. My personal favorite is the Void event, where an MVP Boss spawns every 15 minutes for a 3-hour duration. Players go to kill the mob boss, and everyone who deals at least 1% damage has a chance to get very rare and powerful Void MVP Cards and Valuable Coins. The 1% damage is very achievable with just the "guild pack" freebies.

The server features include a Gold Room (great for farming, especially for newbies), Mining Room (GREAT for farming if you're geared up), and Monster Arena (mainly a Wizard Farming map where you farm Arena tickets to buy headgears). All in all, no matter what class you choose, there's going to be a place for you to farm up or hunt things.

What's less than optimal about the server is the "Forced PK" when it comes to Rare MVP Cards. For example, if you are looking to kill Thana, Randgris, LHZ bosses, etc., other players looking for the boss can kill you on your way or while you're attacking the boss. I've talked to the support staff, and the reasoning behind this was that in the early days, MVP hunting was a guild vs. guild endeavor, where guilds would have to fight and contest each other for the MVP kill. I believe the server has since evolved, and now, one player can kill the MVP and everyone else. This results in a "win-more" mechanic where one player can dominate the market of rare MVP cards. I believe the forced PK on Rare MVP maps needs review. The gatekeeping of Rare MVP cards is ultimately unhealthy, as it only gives a chance to those players that have perfected their gear. This is the polar opposite of the way Void Cards are looted.

Other than this MVP Card Gatekeeping, the server is great. It's friendly to newbies and excellent for veteran RO players. If you enjoyed playing Ragnarok in the past, come and join us. There are lots of active players willing to help. The GMs, Support Staff, and player base have a real good thing going here. I promise you won't be bored. We look forward to seeing you.

I'm not quite sure what the fascination with the gold room is. You realize this makes zenny a resource which loses value, and nullifies most zenny farming maps which already exist, ruling out any variation in farming, because why even go anywhere else? I joined this server very briefly and lost interest immediately because of that.

The question I have is: Is this server progressively enjoyable? or will I max out within a week? Because it's either going to be a month in the gold room, or there is something outside of it that is worth my time and provides variety.

Thanks for the review! We will surely update and improve our Rare MVP maps soon.

100% progressive. I'm sure 1 week isn't enough to max out. You can join our discord so you can ask our F2P players.

Hey, thank you for commenting. The server does really well with balancing the economy. Gold isn't just use as a means to generate net new Zeny into the game, it is also used as a quest item so as to not inflate the overall Zeny in game.

I can assure you that 1 week isn't enough to max out. My current understanding of the game and what works out for the majority of the population is: Gold Room for beginners until you can get decent gear. Use that Gold to gear up. Then you can start enjoying and having an easier time with Mining, HOH (Hall of Heritage), Otherworld, MVP Hunting, and Arena Farming.

There is really no 1 way to play the server which makes it great. All the different farming areas and points systems connect together and make the economy balanced.
