Would you play a low-rate with no customs?

A low rate server pretty much exactly like the official servers?  No custom items, and the donation shop would be identical to iRO's kafra shop.  I would also make everything that you can buy from the kafra shop tradeable/vendable so those that don't donate can get the items.  The only thing I would add would be a bunch of quests like kill x amount of monsters/collect x amount of drops, that iRO used to have before renewal.  I am a long time iRO player but they've really let it go down hill with a lot of disconnects, lag, etc.

You know.
I've played iRO Valkyrie and tbh it sucked.  It honestly, for me, would depend on the rates you had going.  If they are 1x like the officials I honestly wouldn't play.  As for donation shop, if its identical its meh to me.  I don't usually donate tbh.  But your quest system just seems so typical.  I really dislike the collection quests, mainly because a main higher level can just go farm the items and get to base x with doing absolutely nothing on that new character.  Kill quests I do like.

For me the reason I play low rates, or private servers at all, is for smaller customs.  Whether it be custom quests with story lines or just whatever.  I appreciate individuality from servers.

AquarRO

i would play but with IRL friends or brothers  , seriously playing alone in LR is like hanging yourself

if it would be "exactly" the same with regards to rates and items it would be quite boring honestly. What you should think about is what else you can give that the official and original servers don't have. If your only thing to bring in players would be your collection quests, i believe that wouldn't be enough to bring in players. Honestly, having a server like this is like "come to copy-cat" RO. sorry to say.

This 100 times this ^

Now, quests are good imo.  So dont just lump out quests in general.  But yes, try to think of some interesting things.  People get tired of the constant grinding and looking for gear deal.  :)

You can always try to find a new fun way to promote leveling, or partying or whatever.  :)  Thats always good.  But most people, if your server is just like the officials, will probably stay with the officials, they aren not shutting down anytime soon and their chars will ALWAYS be there.  Unlike most pservers.

When you say 'custom', it really means a lot of things:

custom quests, items, modifications, monsters, etc etc.

As for items, I say there should be NONE. Personally, for lowrates, it'd be best if there were no custom items. Be it for aesthetics use, or disguises, whatsoever. NONE. As for quests, yes. Infact, custom quests such like boosting EXP for an hour to the whole server, or an event for that would be good. Since lowrates are all about PvM, MvPing and s***. Or, even quests that doesn't require you to do the job-change quest, but that's just some examples anyway.

As for modifications, that's up to you(server owners) to come up with, lol. Monsters, there's pros and cons towards this. Monsters for PvM(aka leveling or w/e, novice monsters), are fine imo. But no to MvPs.

For people that don't require customs (like me) I think it's fine.  The original kRO/iRO have plenty of nice headgears.  It's good enough.  Why the custom quests, there are plenty of official quests that I want to try but never get to do them.

For me I am fine with a server that is like iRO without the 0.5~5x ultra low rate.  Only if there's more than a few people playing it.  Low-rate is all about community, that is the hard part of getting one of these server going.

Agreed and from my experience, alot of the people in LR's prefer to stay in there small group of friends...Making it a litte tougher on the newbies who need help...
The rich wage war, but its the poor who die.

This.

But I'd like to specify even more; Low-rates are about the PvM/MvP community.

I myself would never play a low-rate anymore, I've been playing the game since 2004 and played low/midrates till 2008~2009.
It gets repetitive after such a long time. Not to mention the WoE scene completely died out on low-rates due to most guilds having the same mentality as I have.

Customs make things more interesting!
Or gamebreaking.
I wasn't talking about those kinds, sorry for not clarifying

For a low rate server, most people prefer to play the official iRO these days, given it is the far safer option in the long run, given pservers generally close down after a few months/years.

Doesn't necessarily have to be true. A lot of people hate the Aegis mechanics and like the eAthena mechanics better, even with all it's bugs.
Not only that but iRO does indeed have a lot of DC's, I remember iRO having a bug that when you hover your cursor over a dead body in WoE, you dc.
It also lags a lot and bots rampage through all their servers. The guilds there are pretty terrible with the exception of ~3 guilds aswell.
Not to mention the economy is pretty messed up and MvP cards/godlikes are everywhere. Just look at both the LK's on this account http://ropd.info/?account=3245314 and tell me he's not overly geared.

Btw @ Chriseffect there is no low rate that can be ''pretty much exactly'' like the official servers, due to them not having Aegis mechanics.
