Quick question
Should the server Owner play Woe

Servers new 2-3 weeks old
only about 10 active members
him and a friend are going to bring friends to join there guild theres 4 active members in my guild
and 2 active members int the other 2 guilds
(he is a member in my guild)

I'm not entirely sure what you asking, but based off of the start, I don't see why they shouldn't be able to WoE on their own server. As long as they use their legit chars then it should be fine. o-o;

I WoE'd on the servers I was a GM on. Since I never cheated, nobody had a problem with it. :)

But as soon as you take a castle people will think you are.

I WoE on my server... everyone knows who I am though and I suck pretty hard at it xD so no one has a problem with it, but other staff members woe as a well and they are pretty good at it.. I think its just the trust. If the players trust you, they shouldn't have a problem with it (and that trust shouldn't be taken advantage of).

To me there is no reason an admin or gm shouldn't enjoy the server they work so hard on :]

In my opinion, GMs shouldn't even have legits. It will eventually lead to corruption, unless their commands are heavily restricted.
But, if they are allowed to have legits... as long as they are being constantly monitored, it's okay. In this case, where the admin him/herself is participating of WoE... only thing you can do is trust what he/she says :|

And so you killed yourself,
but you killed everyone else around you too.

I've been on a number of servers who's GMs and Admins participated in WoE and PvP.

On one occasion it didn't turn out very well.  One of my friends owned a particular guild and our server Admin decided he wanted to join it.  He did, and that was fine and dandy, but eventually this said guild became a trend due to our Admin's presence, hence, everyone wanted to be in the same guild as the Admin.  After a while the trend moved to another guild, but this time it was much worse, GMs and the Admin joined this particular guild and basically ran WoE into the ground.  It was to the point where at roughly 110 - 120 people on at WoE, about 85 - 90 of them were from this guild alone.  A few rather cynical reviews sprouted up on RMS regarding the issue, and things became rather ugly for WoE fans, causing an almost immediate decline in the population.

I'm not saying that the situation can't work, as I've also been on servers where it has.  It is just crucial that your server owner handles the situation with caution.  As mentioned, having the players trust you is absolutely necessary.  I think in my scenario at that particular time as well, having GMs AND the Admin present in the same guild might have been the problem.  Try to distribute your GM team to other guilds if possible.

I also agree that Admins should be able to enjoy their own creations.  =)

To be honest it's a bit of a bias to consider a GM corrupt because they have a legit. xD;

I mean I'm a GM of the server I'm on and I have a clean legit as well. Granted I could do better during WoE... and well I kind of suck at PVP in general, but still, lol.

I said that it'll eventually lead to corruption, not that having a legit makes a GM corrupt.
Let's imagine that your server's admin hires a new GM at one point. He/she'll most likely want to have a legit too, since everyone else does. Now, since he has the "power" to make his "legit" a "little" bit more stronger... what makes you think that s/he wouldn't go corrupt?
Look at it as you all were politicians. What stops someone with the power to benefit themselves from doing so?

I'd rather avoid having corruption in my server by not allowing GMs to have legits, than "inviting" them to be corrupt. Then again, they could just benefit their friends... but that's another story.

I'm talking from personal experience... I've seen way too many good GMs go corrupt because they had a big opportunity to do so. =/

And so you killed yourself,

I would be going against my own belief on the subject as well if I disagreed that the corruption might rise a bit on some servers because of the opportunity, having seen that happen on a server I use to play.... many times. xD;

Anyways, back on topic. When it comes to staff having legits, like recruiting the person, it'll be a gamble that a server will have to take. But that doesn't mean to ban legits from GM's all together. I mean if they're helping the server, they should have the right to play it at the very least legitly. This would include server wide events such as WoE.

Tom~

On a small server, yeah, maybe GMs could play legits, since corruption would be instantly noticed, and they aren't really required to be online lots of time. But on big servers, it'd be hard to notice, plus players would require more support/events... playing a legit would be a waste of time; you could be doing your job instead.
Plus, legits seem to be one of the favorite subjects in RO drama. If you know what I mean. :x

Yeah. I've had my hand dipped into that pool before. Drama isn't the best thing in the world, but somehow it's like that fun unwanted drug that people argue about but do it anyways. xD

Though isn't the usual way of finding GM's through the players that frequent the server enough? I mean like, one of the reasons they'd pick a person is probably due to them playing a lot without causing too much drama or something. o.o

DeePee

Never really had problems with it. As long as there's other GMs who don't WoE and who keep an eye on the atcommand logs (like: never login to your legit and GM char at the same time), it should be fine.

Yomi

If he doesn't have @item, @nuke, @doom, @battleignore and many commands or things that may lead to cheating. Why Not :)
