Has a progression server ever been done? That would be starting a server in its absolute infant state, and advancing episode by episode.
Interesting idea maybe some of you server owners could give a thought to.

If you have played a server like this, what was it like? If not, would you play one?
Honestly, I don't play low rates, but I'd consider giving one a go in the right circumstances. I really enjoyed the earlier stages of RO, but lost interest at a point. I feel content at some stage become so saturated there was just too much and I didn't understand what was what.

Interested in thoughts is all. Again, like one of my other threads I made, I'm not making a server (just saying this so people don't think I have an agenda).

Origins RO I'm guessing. I left cause I didn't know about the episodes lol

ExperienceRO is a progression-based SHR server. It has a total of 7 Chapters, but it is only at Chapter 3 right now.

I'm seen plenty of episodic servers, but several of them had a hard time to keep there players over more than ~3 episodes. I guess it's also because you might jump in at the episode you originally started to play RO and then leave at the episode that made you leave RO in the first place.

Given the nature of RO that continuously added "better stuff" over the years, an episodic progression actually makes quite some sense.

Servers that just do the "BAM! Most recent episode pre-re/re." from a design viewpoint actually should be doing quite some item and mob rebalancing, because unlike Gravity that was forced to add better and better stuff to get people to continue playing, those new servers actually could make all regions similar as good. Nobody ever dared to do that, though.

What I'd also find interesting would be a server that bases itself on an old episode where RO was still good and balanced and then add new episodes, but have them rebalanced so they don't end up being better.

How about some sort of backwards progression server? Where difficulty is flipped - e.g. Prontera is an end-game area and all the mobs have opposite stats...Dunno, anything to make exploring new content interesting.

Not a bad idea, like you are actual a citizen of Arunafeltz and invade Rune-Midgard at the end. =D

But if we were talking about PVM RO server ideas in general, I'd like to see a server where you just log in and then you get automatically assigned to a random group made of other players available and put into a dungeon and then you have to play through the dungeon together.

I'm wondering have people not considered straight up copying other games?

- Opportunities to explore ALL content. The way leveling and farming works, it's better to ignore a lot of things. Designating new starting areas could be a thing.
- Lower level instances? How come this sh1t doesn't exist without being sh1t? A lot of successful MMOs you can start hitting these at like level 15. Each run I'd feel like I'd accomplished something, most importantly a big chunk of my exp bar.
- Item progression. Feeling like attaining a new piece of gear is actually worthwhile. Honestly, all you need is a weapon to have access to your skills.
- Factions? Like Alliance/Horde in World of Warcraft. Great mechanic, creates lots of interesting situations.
- "End-game" features for mid-level players. It'd be nice if I didn't feel like I NEEDED to be a high level to have fun. Something as simple as level/stat scaling for battlegrounds and pvp.

I'm wondering if the RO community is all talk and nothing to show for it.
