The curve from novice to WoE ready

When you start a new server, what kind of curve do you look for? Leveled up and geared in a week of 6 hour days? A  month, a year?

What do you look for and how have servers you've played on recently, stacked up in this respect?
This can vary a lot, even within similar rate servers. Though the variance is especially true with mid-rates.
