I started origins about 3 months ago with the closing of iRO. I wanted to play a server with some familiar faces. I'm not historically a fan of low rates. I believe that any drop rate below 0.1% is just too grindy for me. Still, I love the party aspect of the server. The 12/12 N00byang parties were fun and got me hooked. The server is a strictly nondonate server- forever. All event items are cosmetic  /omg. It seems perfect, eh?
So, being new and all I looked up a guide and noticed the guide mentioned making 3 accounts and autofollowing and I was like ...uhhh.
/hmm I have never played a server where multiclienting was so accepted and normalized. The server owners have a quasi-promulticlient approach that allows you to have a master account and guest on anyone's account. In addition, you can have as many alt accounts as you want easily all from your master account. That'd be the end of parties if it wasn't for the bonus exp you get for 'tapping' and only having one client on at a time in a party. I am curious if playing with only one account is doable. I am not accusing anything nor am I suggesting that oRO is a bad server, however the multiclient approach is not something I like. I have expressed my feelings and find myself in a minority with people carrying sp song and bragi and healers with their vendor slave. I mean...it all feels so fake.  /...

I absolutely agree that it defeats the purpose of an online game and overall feels very wrong. Unfortunately, this is a natural reaction to a min/maxing playstyle that afflicts virtually any game these days, especially online. In RO, you are way handicapped without buffs and since the client allows auto-following it's an obvious consequence people will heavily abuse this un-feature. Even if it didn't, they'd just multibox like the resource farmers in World of Warcraft (who BTW pay dozens of subscriptions without batting an eye... it's insane).

As to the rationale of allowing and even supporting it... You can't really prevent people from multi-clienting anyway, so you might as well try to make it official. With the server being F2P, there is literally zero disincentive and believe me when I say, people used to dual client on official servers while paying two subscriptions even.

It's partly a game design issue, as buffs are way too overpowered and classes feel hamstrung without them. What they're attempting here is to provide incentives for actual multiplayer gameplay, while acknowledging that there is no way to prevent the multi-client abuse from taking place with the current technology.

So yeah, unless you have a better idea to work around these realities you probably have to live with it... and so have I :/

Multiclienting is disabled on my server. But even with client-side security to prevent players from doing it, they can still bypass it by using their laptops or Windows tablet.

As Duckwhale said, you can't prevent people from doing it.

If you like the server, try to adjust to the norm. You'll get used to it soon.  /heh

I agree with all of you. I genuinely HATE that multi-clienting is even possible, and yet I find myself doing it just to be on the same level playing field as other players.
I hate it the entire time I'm doing it, it feels wrong, it's silly, it breaks my immersion, etc.
But like the others have said, if you disable it, some people can still get around it.

THAT SAID, I very much respect any server that has the balls to try to tackle this issue instead of just sweeping it under the rug like OriginsRO.
SolaceRO, for example. Kudos to them for trying. I don't know exactly how they try to tackle the issue, but if it were up to me, I'd ban any IPs that were from VPNs so no one could use VPNs to multi-client.
I'd also ban two or more accounts that attempt to connect from the same IP address unless those two or more accounts/people from the same household got whitelisted by proving, with photo evidence, that they both/all play the game by appearing in a photo together with a piece of paper saying their respective character/account names or something like that.

I respect SolaceRO and servers like it so much that I'm tempted to leave OriginsRO, and to go to SolaceRO out of sheer respect, but I can't quite do it since OriginsRO is still the only server with no rewards for donating or cash shop, and I respect that even more than servers tackling the multi-clienting issue.
So I'll just have to live with the multi-clienting in OriginsRO for now.

EDIT: I'd love to be able to donate to OriginsRO, just not be rewarded for it in any way, shape, or form. Many of us are willing to support our favorite server, but OriginsRO won't take any forms of donation.

Just wanna mention that, while it's true that Multiclienting is allowed and made easier on OriginsRO due to a master account system,
there are cases where multi-clienting is forbidden and not possible.
You can't multi-client in War of Emperium on oRO and doing so by finding ways to bypass this barrier will get you permanently banned.
There are events and quests that are only to be done on one master account, if you create a 2nd one in order to get more rewards, you will get permanently banned.
Generally having more than 1 master account will get you permanently banned.

Bot users have a hard time in OriginsRO. They're getting banned very frequently.
Same goes for RMTers.
It's hard to imagine a server besides oRO where the staff is taking care of cheaters and RMTers so efficiently.

Is this a joke? The staff? Takes care of bots efficiently? What about the ~~~community helpers~~~ that you hired to do your job while you sit around in a fantasy world of letting everyone else do the things you guys are supposed to take care of? You're not doing anything other than delaying costume changes time and time again. Don't fool yourself, Skyleo. At least give those people credit where credit is due. They're the ones spending hours and days of their lives hunting bots. Not staff. So no, your team is not efficient in the least. There's bots roaming around from friends of those ~~bot hunters~~ that you guys favorite so much that are never reported. They already know that they'll never get caught because you guys are never looking. You won't even take time to bother unless you find problematic reasons. All you do is just click a button after long nonsensical arguments. And even that takes quite a while.

I also suggest you to stop trying to mitigate people's experience on Origins by trying to refute every single "bad" points people have to say about Origins. If many people say the same thing, then perhaps it is time for a change instead of hanging onto a lucid dream that Origins is the best private server with super efficiency™. It's not really working. Also, a ton of your "community helpers" use methods to create more than 1 master account without your efficient™ staff knowing, so good job.

Asides from these negatives Origins can be a nice server if you don't involve yourself in the constant drama that happens in chats. I'll give your team that it is stable but that's just about it. It's a stable grounds to play on. Mostly soloing with no real incentives other than brain dead tapping multitask tapping. That's it.

1 - The community helpers were elected to help questions and misconceptions get to us faster, and eventually evolved into a beta-testing team, helping us speed up development of new features, as well as fixing of new and old bugs.

2- The community helpers never did and never will help us catch bots. They are not given the tools, or even GM accounts, to help catch bots, and they are not expected to report botting incidents to us (nor have our meetings ever been used for said purpose).

3- Give credit where credit is due? I credit Ischia for arresting a large sum of our bots. Ischia, who is a regular GM, not a community helper (give or take surrounding tildes).

4 - Costumes are quick to implement, it's just a script. We add 5 or 10 per patch. The reason we don't release more is to not burn through all our cards/content in a short amount of time. This has been the standard for oRO since it launched. We want an episodic server, not to release everything at once and be done with it.

5 - If the bad points are misconceptions, we can, should, and will reply to them. We want people to take informed decisions when they choose to join, not join, or leave our server. We don't want to leave the task of describing our features and guidelines to guys who might have fallen for rumors.

6 - That's a grave accusation. Please report them, and submit any sort of evidence you might have. We will happily investigate and heavily punish the culprits, regardless of how much they might have helped us in the past.

7 - k thx

You are wasting your time and energy bro. GMs here believe in just doing as they please and wouldnt even consider people even if they broke a rule unknowingly. There is no warning or temp bans. Onky perma bans coz GM is the almighty God here witha brittle ego. Your tickets related to any ban issue is immediately made confidential so others cant see how the GM's treat players.
And coming soon ...post from oRO team saying i was found botting and am salty about it. 😋😋

[you were] found [and banned for] botting [three times] and [are] salty about it.

As for the "hiding GM behavior behind confidential tickets" accusation...

Much respect to the GMs of OriginsRO for upholding rules, and perma-banning serial botters, unlike other servers I've seen who don't ban anyone because it might hurt their cash shop sales or something.
Haha! Get out of here with your BS, Akram. Just the way you type is evidence of an immature, salty, underage brat.
OriginsRO is too good for cheaters like you. Get over it.

It sucks to have retarded players who don't understand simple explanations. And when you try to expound, they'll call you biased.

This post started with the possibility of multi-clients on Oro. A lot of players like to play it that way because of several reasons. A fairytale is that you will be better off doing so in general. There is no way that a single player using multi-clients can outplay an organized group. Some players will still have remarkable results using multi-client but the truth is that an organized group will still outplay them at a factor 7-10x at least on any rate.
Not to mention players that believe it was official to have just one account only, on a certain stage the developers had problems to create that multi-client possibility in a time where a lot of players still were using a 14 kb modem. Can you imagine the restrictions of 14 kb?
Suppose you play your own leech at Oro, you will not make progress at 5x rate but 2,5 rate instead. If your schedule is Anubis, it will be even 1,5x since Anubis is nerfed to 3xrate. Where a group where each player has an unique IP adres could reach around 15x rate easy but even if it would be 7x rate, there is no way you could be a threat as single player using multi-client, not by far even. The only ones that are really doomed are the ones not adapting to this system, or aware of it and just try to reach 99/70 rebirth leeching their own chars with multi-clients or with small party's fooling around. This is where I disagree with their approach and I have my issues with Oro developers even to the stage where it really gets emotional and a bit nasty.
Of course this is all beyond being a cheater, which is of course possible to configure and in fact very easy, on the other hand for the very same reason you can be caught very easy also. If they say you were a bot, then you were a bot. I will not doubt about that for a moment. Now consider to play this game different with a challenge which is much more deeper, it's better for you, after all you like to play this game and that is all that matters, not your results.
