Coming from the server deemed to be the most donation hungry and unbalanced server for the last few years, I would have to say; Yes, I would play on a 'mean' server.

Seriously now, the server wasn't all that bad (If you don't know which server I am talking about - just search through my posts, you will find it) and if it wasn't for all the previous drama - it would still be alive today.

Most of the people from the server, were, I admit - a bunch of snot-nosed kids. But like everywhere else there is always a group such as this. And then you have the genuinely nice people who are just there to have their fun and be done with all the flaming, taunting and the money grubbing.

Honestly, if you can't learn to take stuff online "on the chin" - you shouldn't be on the internet. Simple as that. Put up with it, or move away from it - its not like there aren't a billion more servers out there anyway.

As far as I'm concern with my server... we don't advertise to players to make donations. Our server can manage without donations to begin with. But when players approach us for donation thingy... we happily entertain them
Facts about donations coming in our server:
1. We never force donations, you can't even find it on our server page.
2. Where do I get the monthly fee of $300+ a month? a. from my own pocket b. from personal friends (also co-workers) that pledge to give a small amount monthly and don't even play the game and all my pledges are voluntary btw.
3. Staff get's credit for any donations. What this means is co admins who put their time and hard work for our server get's to keep part or all of the donations which was made thru them.

Also, not even a month ago I upgraded to two 1000Mbps (1Gb)  uplink connections and now I'm planning to upgrade our dedi-box into RAID config as we are nearing the 300 active player count (topped at 270s just earlier with our WOE).
So far... I'm still sticking to the promises I made to my players of providing a more responsive game playing experience, hence my slogan "PLAY IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT"

It's just sad to see some servers taking advantage of the donation system and does not give back some of those donations for the betterment of their servers.

Here's a tip on how not to corrupt the donation system on your server while still able to pay server dues:
Find sponsors out of the game that will pledge any monthly amount, talk to people who are close to you and has jobs that earn a decent living. Just keep in mind that having your server online will keep kids off the streets and in trouble... use that positive leverage when trying to find sponsors.

Give it a shot... If it worked for me... then there's no reason it won't for you. No one can turn their backs for a good cause until you have a black heart of course

Dude, believe it or not, but when somebody throws nigger, jew, etc. around it doesn't automatically make him racist(especially on the 'net).

This isn't racism though (In reference to RO having all white characters), this is commercialism. No matter that the game was originally intended for an asian audience, Gravity would have intended to make the game into a global phenomenon from the start so instead of having to change the game around everytime a company wanted to buy into their game and thus, their company - they made it what was going to be accepted by the majority.
