Good Morning All,

I have been playing ragnarok off and on since GH was a "new" area in iRO Chaos.

I hop private server to private server getting burned out on each one as the population dies, the admins screw something up or life gets in the way.

Let me preface this by saying I have 0 coding experience and I cannot make a server to save my life.

However, I do have some thoughts on how ragnarok could be revived on a server that could attract and hold 1k + players at relative low rates.

This would be assuming competent Admins, no P2Win and no external factors breaking the server.

These are all ideas that are required AT LAUNCH.

1. Proxies for the major regions to attract as many players as possible.

2. Tiered Battleground / PVP environments. 30-50, 50-70, 70-99 etc. The rewards for these BGs would be useable gear, experience and zeny that provides an alternative to grinding away in a field or dungeon.

3. Random Gear mods on all dropped gear as seen recently on LOM and a few other servers. This provides a euphoric drop effect similar to diablo where you are excited for just about every drop. It extends the endgame content and provides lower levels something exciting

4. An incentive to party outside of your established Guilds and groups that join the server. Create a loot roll system and party creation system so that a random group of say  4 people can team up and kill an MVP without the need to dual / multi client. Give MVP priority to these established groups.

5. Instances at every level tier with equipment rewards relevant to those levels. 20-30, 30-40, 40-50 etc. Once again, this should be an ALTERNATIVE to grinding in a field and should be balanced as not the most optimum way to level / gain gear. Create a treasure chest at the end of the instance with a large loot table tailored to those levels.

6. WoE - Change all WoE maps to have MULTIPLE entrances in all areas. Winner of the Castle will be based on a formula including total castle time held and the number and level of players killed by each respective guild. For instance, Guild A held it for 25 minutes and collectively killed 120 people. Guild B held it for 28 minutes but collectively only killed 90 people. It would be awarded by a narrow margin to Guild A.

7. Reduce WoE to 30 min - 60 min. What his is aiming to accomplish is to promote CONSTANT fighting and assault of the castle. Precasting will only work on one of the entrances and it will give solo players a chance to have an actual part in influencing WoE. If you lose the castle then re group and take it again. The better coordinated, better fighting team will take it.

8. Along the same lines as solo WoE players, provide item incentivization to activity performed during WoE. Give a base reward for time spent in the WoE map not afk. Further increase the reward for kills, emps killed etc.

9. Have the castles split up into 2 different popular timezones. There will be 2 sets of WoE on different castles so you don't have to wake up at 1 am to WoE if you don't want to.

10. Progression server with timely releases (a man can dream).

11. Skill changes - Do not go overboard on buffing one class compared to the others.

12. Test server where any balance changes will be implemented for a week before production.

The goal of this is to provide a ragnarok experience that deals with the fact that the demographic for ragnarok is around 25+ and we don't have time to endlessly grind for 8 -12 hours a day anymore. We should be able to log into a server for a few hours and have some meaningful fun. I would like to participate in WoE and PVP but in it's current state it is pointless unless you are the top dog.

Anyways, it would be nice if a server dev team sat down and thought about how the ragnarok population as a whole can come together and enjoy killing some porings. Really build a community up again. I believe it is possible.

Sounds like a lot of work but no $$$.

RIP.

It's quite amusing to see when Robin tries to teach Bruce Wayne "How to save Gotham City".

Your enthusiasm is much respected from my point of view but as you can see majority of Ro players are douchebags. I would try a different approach somewhere else. Stay great guy! 👍🏽

Gamer's and the gaming community is just a cesspit. I've been involved with other private server communities for other games and the amount of arrogance gets intolerable. Even when I wrote detailed server setup guides other veteran developers told me I'm"spoon feeding noobs", meanwhile most veterans will ridicule people for asking questions instead of admitting their documentation is lacking or non-existent.

If any of you go into development try to stick to software design, avoid game development cause it's full of underpaid, desperate and annoying people.

morrowind = awesome
oblivion = its ok... the only thing that makes it good is that it isnt skyrim and it has actual hit connecting rather then rng
skyrim = no fun spells, limits to everything etc etc

im just talking vanilla though

Hey :)

What's hilarious is that I'm in the process of building a server that encompasses most of this. I'm hoping to have this launched by August, but it has most of everything you said -

- Tiered PVP with Customized BG Games with specialized rewards that offer EXP scrolls and gear for winning badges instead of grinding.
- Customized BG, PVP & WoE Rankings with rewards
- WoE Participation Rewards
- 30 Minute WoE's 2x a day (on specific days) to allow those in different time zones to join & have fun
- World Bosses (Serverwide Event) that takes literally 20+ people to defeat for exclusive prizes
- Customized Skills to help those classes that severely need it (IE: Allowing Whitesmiths to refine Armor & Creators to mass produce bottles without having to make unnecessary potions)

Hopefully I'll see you when it opens! :)

There are a bunch of servers that offer very customized content and i think thats what you are looking for. I 100% agree that most of today's servers are just more of the same and i hate that.

You should check Project Einherjar, im currently playing there and its very well customized server with lotsa new stuff.

In basic, it is just about entertainment only. Ro is Pyramide based, any efforts to equalize for a specific group is a one way narrow mind road.
You need all players. The original Ro is in problems and for sure pre-renewal is almost official dead by now because there is no emulator around that does support just that. They all are in God modus and think they know better and changed it. You will probably never see it again as it was original, that just doesn't exist anymore these days. Today it is only good for the present active WOE or PVP core players. I guess it will slowly die from now on, no matter what changes you can develop to stop that proces.

Yes, I know, cheaters, macro's, bots etc. but they never bothered me as much in gameplay as the new developers from the emulators managed to accomplish. In fact their influence is even worse as any bot, macro or cheater ever was in my opinion.
The cure is worse as the disease.
Back to the start, you have to think in entertainment for everyone not just a bonus for a specific part of a virtual population.
