QuoteHello there @everyone .

Yesterday would have been the 1 year anniversary for Return to Morroc.

While well... its no longer in service, I wanted to take a moment to talk a little about it.

These words come from heart, and the text is long, so if you do read it, take your time.

---------
Return to Morroc was my dream project. It was born from the feeling I had of not really belonging anywhere. I would wander from server to server while never really finding a place to call home, or a server to be part of.

I felt like an Orphan of RO. Someone with nowhere to go back to, but always looking somewhere.

I wanted RO to be much, much better and bigger. I had made too many suggestions over years on multiple servers and would always get frustrated out of the hurdles.

Systems would take forever to get made, basic things didnt work properly, so many things had no purpose... I wanted a remake of the game, with fresh ideas, that learned from its mistakes and corrected many things.

Then one day my wife said "Why don`t you do it yourself?", then

And here we are, a group I once was happy to find 15-20 people who wanted a new world for RO to now be almost 6000 people. Everyone with ideas, intentions and plans. We had a massive community with over 1500 unique People every week, we had our dramas, our fights, our issues and many more cool stuff.

Return to Morroc was not the first custom server, but for me, and many here, it was the best one to exist. It had everything I ever wanted in RO in a single place.

What happened was extremely personal to me as a person, and Im thankful for all the strenght I got and people sent.

It hurt a lot, it was not an easy decision, even if rushed. It was the right call to do at the time.

And I'm terribly sorry for it. I know it was a home to all of you, and I know it hurt a lot. It  ruined my holidays. I felt like I made everyone feel like I had in the past. Orphans.
---------

After thinking about all the incredible projects being worked on... Im inspired.

This was voted many times, discussed in depth and many more. But in the end, I believe that even if people burn it down with cash grabs and s*** versions, People who wanted to visit Morroc and the Orphanage deserve an opportunity to do so.

Yet.

Below will you find all the files necessary to run Return to Morroc
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/101h6AAgqiRcII_TP4C9EZ5sTp8Y-qjs7?usp=drive_link
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The intent is for the files to be used to both play with friends over hamachi/radmin VPN, or for study...or you can monetize it and be a ****.

I will not address how to change anything or whatever, you are on your own.

I also created ‚Ā†return-to-morroc-chat  so you can discuss PRM related stuff and data, enjoy it!

Return to Morroc also will be on version 1.2.2 - Relic of Legends, implemented partially with the following changes vs when it closed:

-New MVP relics are added, for all field bosses.
-Lv 115 sets not added, some minor bugs and other stuff is not fixed.
-Some minor changes and partial client encryption
-Good luck with all of it. I will -not- support any of it. you are on your own.
-MSQ Ep 6

Just open server (folder 01) and run on taskbar clock flag, runserver.bat(02) and run client(03). (may need to install SQL)

You can also change ip to radmin VPN IP when hosting on sclientinfo.xml, data folder.

I was offered over 20k USD for PRM but refused to sell it to be predated on. It's a work of love.
If you wish to help me a bit or thank for the stuff I make, you can check my patreon:

This is my gift to those who been here. my orphans.

Cool stuff eh?
I hope you can visit my orphanage.

While I work on new stuff, for people tired of the old stuff, again :no1:

From today forward, you can return anytime you want.

Regards,

Ornstein

Fake IP and trash talking is not allowed, don't understand why anyone would do that.  (Removed)

We appreciate Ornstein's effort and contribution.  As always, files shared are use at your own risk.

What o_o? I thought admins decided not to share the files or at least that was what I thought I read on the discord server several months ago but if this is true I can't wait to keep playing... This was my last bastion, the last and only server I truly wanted to stay on forever. I'm still in disbelief  /lv
See you, space cowboy!

Yeah! I don't know why from past 3 to 5 days ago. Every post in forum are from new account.  /hmm  /swt

Accounts created with fake IP, no matter the content, we will remove the account and posts.  Another one of those deleted.

Because that tell us the user has no credibility and has something to hide.  It is a serious security risk to our system if we allow such action.  Why is it so hard to create an account with a legit connection?  Multiple account is not allowed in this forum btw.  We do not want to have forum users posting as different persons but is actually talking to his/her own accounts, being cheerleaders of each other etc.

If you see post with hidden links (can be at the lower right corner or in signature) or post that quotes another message and say something random but if you look carefully you can see a link is implanted into the quoted message, please report the post.  We have these every few days.  Thank you.

For Ornstein's full message and further update, I'll include the discord message link so anyone interested can go there for any follow-up:

Alright! It did not only happen here. It happened in other forums as well. Don't worry; I'm honored to click the report button.  /gg

Orstein (return to morroc admin) -gave- (not leaked, GAVE) our personal information (login, passwords, IPs, donation info, emails) out when he made his server files public.

Quote from: Felione on Jun 17, 2024, 01:54 PMOrstein (return to morroc admin) -gave- (not leaked, GAVE) our personal information (login, passwords, IPs, donation info, emails) out when he made his server files public.

I think it is very important to clarify the leak was data from the launch days of Return to Morroc.  So it isn't like the entire user data from the start to the end.  I don't want anyone to have an unnecessary heart attack reading the previous post.

Orstein made a clarification on the leak that it could be data from up to the first 15 days of the server.  Those that could be affected were notified individually.  So if you didn't get any notification, you shouldn't be worry or go back to the server's discord to ask Orstein if you are worried.

From PRM discord by Orstein:
QuoteWhy are you stepping down?
First I gotta be honest about 2 things. the first is that dealing with PRM files and it being available is a -massive- emotional load for me, and I need to move on and leave it behind me. Discussing, seeing images and such about PRM in depth is a hard process and something I had to prepare for a few days before I could publish it.

The second is that I made a serious mistake and leaked some of your data along with the first upload of the files, which was another big deal for me. While I corrected it as soon as I could, it still happened.
-------------------------------------------------------
What data was leaked?
Some slightly sensitive information, but nothing too critical. The data refers to login and password for accounts created on PRM's launch day, it also contains some specific personal data like emails and IP used for registration or early donation logs. Im addressing it publicly so you know what happened.
The leak lasted for a few hours and was plugged along with the fixes uploaded, but some data may still be around. While Im honestly very sorry for that... its not the first time in history of gaming and internet it happens, as you know

I downloaded the first version of the files without updating them. I do have a vision of the data leaked.
My data was leaked and I did not have any "individual notification" from Ornstein. I am just lucky enough to be here when it happened.

I get it, for safety reason you must use trash email and password for any private server. What bother me the most is that the password wasn't even encrypted, even though it's easy to do it.

Tangerine

What bothers me is the "Some slightly sensitive information, but nothing too critical". It was the usernames + plain text passwords, and the home address / billing address of at least 24 different players who donated.

Also the leak was not closed in a few hours, it was still up until around 2 days ago.

That being said, I am glad it's been resolved, and I hope valuable lessons were learned.

Ok so at least it's not just me who thinks he's insane for being so casual about leaking people's info.

On another note, there should be a trigger warning for the YandereDev code.

Apart from the factual mistake that was made, I think the guy has good intentions deep down and truly wants to offer an immersive private RO experience that is bound to not be your typical average way, considering how uniquely different his project is from how most private servers are spun today. With that being said, I find his work to be admirable and it takes a lot of courage to pull projects like these with success. Praise aside, I think we all make mistakes at some point or time in our lives and the wonder of life is where one learns from mistakes in hopes of improving. I think Ornstein is now well aware of the concerns that were brought up and I too hope it was a lesson well learned.

I am looking forward to seeing how his new project's return spans out.

Wishing you good luck and have fun with your work process Orns.

P.S: Shoutout and thanks to the folks raising awareness regarding sensitive data being leaked.

Kind regards,
Ancient.

i'm pretty chill about it too tbh. you can acknowledge that there a massive consequences to a very minor action without freaking out and acting like it's the end of the world.

tbh there is no lesson to be learned, it's just an oopsie moment with not too much that goes into it. a lot of times in life the punishment doesn't fit the crime, that's just how it goes so ya it happens. sometimes taking a random step forward is just a step, and sometimes you fall off a cliff. same person, same mindset, intention, same skill. are we gonna start reading between the lines about what taking a step forward implies about a person now or are we gonna be realistic and accept that a step is just a step and just deal with the cleanup and move on o-o

ADM Ornstein

What can I say about the leak that has not been said already?

I did contact everyone I could on regards of the matter, and even people who were not part of the leak had long drawn-out discussions on how they felt over it(sometimes even being extremely aggressive). I gave everyone a chance to discuss the subject in detail with me and did directly apologize for it, to the point as stepping down from my admin role of PRM's discord (which does have 6000 members). The leak was not taken lightly and was addressed in all ways possible. Moderators knew exactly how terrible it all was for me.

My worry in that regard was to not focus on the leak given the big deal for me that was making PRM's code open source. It's 3000h of work at the very least. Even if not to everyone's taste, there is a lot of actual blood, sweat and tears put into every corner of it. Making it public in spite of the -massive- requests not to do it from the community for reasons:

1- People rush it down, try to push it as a live version and fully working. The version shared was SPECIFICALLY a debug version of the code for Patch 1.2.2, which had features that were never pushed to live, including over 90 new items, some quests and even boss systems. This didn't stop people from pushing servers to live in 3 days with no proper planning and preparation and advertising it around while barely keeping it online. (And I just watch it and have my fun over the mess).

2-The Community doesn't deserve it. Which I 100% agree on. I didn't do it for most. I was called cult leader, reseller, cheater, liar, banned from multiple locations, called a fraud that bought all the code I have made, people said I leaked stuff on purpose and was even heavily doxxed to the point my wife was called at work by players b**** about things, which led to the server closing. All I did was provide a server I would like to play on, with no p2w monetization of any kind. Hell, surplus donations were even donated to a REAL orphanage (a thing I plan to repeat with Luna Obscura if the same happens), but you will find all sorts of reasons on why Im a terrible person from people who never properly discussed it with me, all of which I openly invite to talk to me on DMs over any issues (and invitation I extend to everyone here. discord is admornstein).

3- There are 100's of servers around with blatant P2W practices, open RMT and admins acting out like they need heavily monetized cash shops to do anything or keep a server going. I'm all for good work being rewarded but the amount of dirt around is astonishing. You have core devs who ask for money from crazy things and bugfixes that should be default, people who don't leak your data on accident, they SELL your data on purpose all the time. They try to invade hosts and control panels to leak player data, take down servers, doxx the others and so many more things that everyone is aware of. You even have main staff of rAthena and developers with servers with fake player counters on servers, twitch bot viewing, ransom scripts and bloated systems and nobody bats an eye, yet I have been harassed daily since I even announced PRM back in the day.

Finally.

Yes, my code is not professional. I'm a chemist by trade who started this entire thing with "what is rAthena" in early 2022 and here we are. Ruffled feathers of a ton of people for asking the hard questions and trying new stuff. Banned from many communities for calling out s*** directly. With support from my community and people around me I have no plans of stopping again and will continue doing the same:" making new stuff for people tired of the old stuff". This applies to both transparency, focus on player experience and design effort.

"YandereDev" code is a joke of an insult even considering how rAthena code itself is, as I received plenty of compliments for keeping proper commentary on some specific stuff, while navigation a maze of code with near 0 knowledge and getting where I was at: stable, running well with good results and fun content. I also specifically didnt make documentation public because I want people to either have fun with friends or properly put in the work if they wanna profit of it.

I believe I said everything I had to say with this. even if a bit ranting in this regard, some truths had to be said.

I made plenty of mistakes in life and in handling the server in multiple ways. But I still believe that making all my work open source may inspire maybe one or two people to do better and work hard, so maybe its worth it.

Now go and ask for anyone to do anything for free in this community and come back with results. I will continue being 100% transparent about everything I do and try to do what I feel is fair in a community that is completely profit driven who likes to s*** on anyone who wants to challenge the status quo.

Thanks for reading/skipping it.
Working again on cool stuff for people tired of the old stuff.
