1. How did your server celebrate Halloween 2008? And how did you rate it?

2. How did your server celebrate Halloween 2007? Was this year's Halloween better?

3. How important is it for servers to implement good events during holiday seasons?

Please include Server name. You may include screenshots if you want.

You know it's not Halloween for almost a week, right?

*ahem*

Well...

1. We started off by giving a dark, spooky Halloween Prontera. It was awesome at first, but then the several days of darkness and creepy music got on everyone's nerves, but whats worse is that many of us started listening to The Cure and Night wish, dressing in black days on end, paying our respects to the great prophet Lovecraft and his writings of our lord Cthulhu (/hyperbole, I think you guys are getting the picture). Anyway we changed it back. I think we're going to stick with Halloween events...

2. We didn't exist yet. :)

3. I mean, I think its mildly important to celebrate holidays, but to be mindful of all holidays. At the very least its good to change up things every now and then.

(PS, I do like The Cure and Night Wish. :x )

Nobody else celebrates Halloween? Both euRO and iRO has already announced a week long Halloween Event - an identical one. euRO calls it "Mysterious Halloween Magic" while iRO calls it "Zombie Chase".

Basic concept
With no gears or anything else for that matter (Weight =0), try to make it out alive from a monster infested Payon Town. Worth pointing out, you cannot use any skills on that map. You will be rewarded with Halloween Tickets upon successfully escaping and can exchange them for some gifts including a Pumpkin Headgear.

Yeah, very true.

But we made a mistake. Forgot to add more monster ids in and when i went to add some Halloween Monsters, it failed...

The last server I poked my head into had Marilyn Manson's cover of "This Is Halloween" playing, and all the plants in every town (not just Pront) were all black and brown. While I don't mind Mr. Manson, or dead leaves, I really started to miss the way everything used to look. Imo, green is much less eye-assaulting than a pile of black/purple/brown with some random neon green thrown into the middle, which is what all the bushes looked like. O_O

I always love themed events, though. Christmas is my favorite and I may play iRO again for their XMas stuff.

Alright, I wanted to wait until my Halloween stuff was released before posting it here, no spoilers for my players who browse rms ^^

The server is heRO, I can't "rate" it since well.. I made it, but I think we do a decent effort when it comes to Holiday celebrating and I think it's important to do something original for each holiday.

For the past 3 years we've had a "dark prontera" during Halloween season, it was made by one of our GM, we also change some npc for nif ones, such as the spooky kafra!

In 2007 the major cities of the kingdom were invaded by pumkingrings and autumn leaf cats, this year the pumpkingrings have received a buffing in stats/exp and rewards, and are now found in Niflheim.

Last year's quest involved a number of npc such as "Pumpkin Squire", "Pumpkin Minstrel", "Pumpkin Counselor", they all looked like halloween/dark monsters (pumkingring, jakk, bloody knight, etc.) they moved around in cities or field/dungeons, the quest was randomized so that not everyone was sent to the same npc, nor did they have the same items to gather (so you actually had to read what the npc said, those who didn't regretted it), part of the quest had you delivering food and you had a certain amount of time to do it or it would turn bad, the reward in the end was some chance items and a pair of Spiderweb Wings and a pumpkin mojo, a npc in the DB rooms was gathering mojos, once 30 players had handed in theirs it would summon the Hollow Poring, a hard MVP with sweet exp and items, similar to pori pori. This was the first quest where we introduced moving npc, which have since then been deemed as completely EVIL, and we re-used that concept in a few other quests afterwards.
/gg /gg /gg

This year's quest has players investigating a big mysterious creatures sighted in various cities, a scholar in Yuno hires you as his assistant, and sends you to talk to each victim to gather information. The quest sends you to most major city aside from the starting ones, and if the warp to that city is not unlocked you get it for free, if it's already unlocked you get some zeny instead. Most of the people that got attacked by the creatures did not get a good look at it, but as you interrogate them you find out that the mysterious monster is a big orange blob and that all the victims had on them something relating to pumpkin (pumpkin seed, pumpkin pie, etc.), you report back to the scholar only to find our he died! His brother gives you some of his items, as rewards for helping with his research, the player has a choice between last year's Halloween gears and 2 new ones: Witch Hat or Purple Bat Doll, they also get Exp and a wrapped mask, along with a few other small prizes obtained in the rest of the quest. The scholar's investigation got him killed before he could finish it, his spirit lingers in Niflheim, seems the creature got attracted by a concentrated pumpkin essence that he was creating, he tried to capture the monster but it fought back! He knows how to attract it now, so if the players gathers 4 pumpkin mojos they can summon the Hollow Poring! It's a toned down version from last year's Hollow Poring, a MVP doable by a small party of level 80ish players.

We'll also be having a Halloween event on friday (Oct. 31st) but can't give any spoilers on that ^_^

*is rating pandora's event*
xD pretty evil in a few parts, asking for some.... once useless but still hard to find-ish items....

for difficulty i'd give it a 8.5/10
for story line more of a 7/10
for prizes, i personally love cute stuff so i'd give it a 9/10 (many might disagree with this though)
as for a general rating it'd get about 8.5/10

*will be rating other server's halloween events as well*

Aaronock

I play the heRO server, I can rate Pand's Halloween event just like J J J for simplicity.  I'm stealing your format by the way Mr. Baby Novice.

Difficulty 7/10- A few really annoying spots like the pet eggs since I sold all my tames I can't just go get this super fast nuuuuuuuuuuuu

Storyline 6/10- Found typos in it, I'll probably note them next time and send it over.  Overall story, it was cute and kind of funny, I liked it, but it wasn't the best either.

Prizes- 9/10- Oh man both headgear prizes are sweet, and both of them form a really decent combo with the god awful spiderweb wings, thanks for the boost in those btw, my soul linker will love the combo ^_^

Overall Rating- 8/10- The Hollow Poring is fun to fight, he's definentely toned down a bit but you also made him hard enough by giving him HELL'S JUDGEMENT!  Fun MvP fight, good headgears this time around (you guys are starting to give us much better prizes than crap that just gives us giftboxes or whatever), and well, it definentely was heck of a lot better than last years event.  Last year's quest was really glitchy, but this one seems a lot more stable (since we fixed the cookie bag prize at that one npc).  So good job overall guys, I think Death Dealers will enjoy fighting Mr. Hollow for now  :)

Pandora

I wrote the script in one go, so yeah there may be some typos (it's too bad the people who tested it didn't notice them), pm them to me if you get a chance and I'll fix, I'll be doing the quest myself tomorrow so I might see them too. The good thing about what you said is that it means you actually read what the npc say, which is more than I can say for most people! xD

Regarding prize, over the year we got a lot of feedback about the unloved spiderweb wings, that's how we came up with the combo to make them more useful, they need some love too!  But don't dish the birthday gears, gift boxes are <3!

Why does everyone think that MVPs will always have the standard things like Hell's Judgment. No one realized that it's not Hell's Judgment but just Venom Splasher or Desperado (giant jelly with guns, somehow = Win!) yet? May not seem like much, but I think players do prefer to see custom monsters and custom mvps to use "moves they have never seen before on monsters" even though it's nothing that special. Hollow Poring uses EDP, but in reality his level 3 EDP is just the same as your standard power up. Somehow a giant orange blob flashing purple scares people a lot more than red sparkly lightning :P

I liked witch hat better in cuteness. Somehow a lot of people thinks the bat is cuter though  :'(

As for prizes, I know that it's been a year but we actually took the advices from players last year, and this is the result of those advices to buff the spiderweb wings a bit. However, I think most people did think that heRO GM team ignored them unless they stayed for a whole year to see the change. Just because we didn't implement changes immediately doesn't mean that GM is deaf on suggestions ;p

Anyway, seasonal quests have always been something I think people across servers are looking forward to, and sort of "expects" the GM team to cook up with something for each major holidays. Halloween always tend to be the prelude to the even bigger holiday of Christmas and the winter breaks, and certainly these are the times when servers "score" those eventfulness points in RMS reviews ;p missing out and not doing anything special for Halloween and the similar holidays tend to be a major letdown especially for new players in RO servers.

Aaronock

Actually Ayu, its a lot scarier to me for the Hallow to be EDPing over Powerupping...and that's due to the fact you can't dispel EDP!  This actually means when he EDP's I'm like "oh crap run!"

And I could have sworn it was HJ and not desperado, oh well its mah bad xD
The Venom splasher wasn't really killing me to be honest, it was that Desperado+EDP combo =/

But he's a fun MvP none the less, and I really do think this halloween event overall was a HUGE improvement over heRO's last year one.  I still stand by that :3

It was s***, cold, no one had drink or eggs.

TalonRO Halloween Event 2008

1. Access to a Halloween Event Map (two versions: easy/hard). On the easy map, Halloween Event Monsters drop Pumpkin Coins among other items - Muffler[1], Lutie Pancakes, Buckler[1], etc.. On the more difficult map, Gold Pumpkin Coins are also dropped by Halloween Event Monsters, and whoever gets the most Gold Pumpkin Coins gets a prize at the end of the week (Prizes promised to top 3 players)

2. Pumpkin coins are used to exchange for
- Halloween Disguise Scrolls
- Trick or Treat Bag (goodies, junks, rares and even a small chance to get MVP cards)
- Old Card Album
- MVP Headgears
- Halloween Event Hat +3 to ALL stats and gives you a 5% damage reduction from Demon monsters. Furthermore, when killing a Demon monster, there is a chance of getting a Candy from them.
- Summon Halloween MVP

3. Halloween Event monsters
- Pumpkinring
- Halloween Jakk
- Halloween MVP (err.. i have not seen it yet, but I think its that same big orange jello)

4. Some other mini games (The NPC changes location every so often, so u need to look for it)
Questionnaire - ooo I like this one. The Quiz Master asks a question and u are given 4 choices, u pick the most correct answer. And if u pick the wrong answer - U and the rest who did not get it correct will be nuked.

Invisible Maze - err not my thing. Its like the hidden temple map. Just need to find away out of the maze. There is more than one maze, so... it changes.

Summon Halloween MVP - err, I wanna try this. But u can only do it once every hour. Give it 10 Pumpkin Coins.

Questionnaire: Lets all hope the Answer is TWO. Or we can all die together.

Halloween Disguise Scrolls

Halloween Event Monsters

I give a 9/10 approval rating. A variety of events suitable for lower levels and still challenging for higher levels. Lots of festive prizes - Halloween Disguise Scrolls, Trick or Treat bag and Pumpkin Headgear with bonus Stats. I feel its very important for servers to have good festive events - especially the important ones.

EDIT: I was wrong. The Halloween MVP is a Deviling (Custom) with Bapho jr as its slaves.

DeePee

As an addition to Bleu. Completely random during the event, everyone in the event maps died and the warper to the event maps did not work anymore. There was chaos and people wonder what the heck happened.

Then after about 15 minutes, "???: Muwahahaha" appeared. It appeared that someone named Dr. Krispen messed up the event.
The event warper no longer warped people to the main event map, but to some strange lobby. A party of 5 minimum could enter the Tower of Dr. Krispen and try to attempt to defeat it. 6 floors (Endless Tower-like, just with Thanatos maps) of mobs and MVP's followed, and finally they had to face Dr. Krispen himself.

And eventually...they did! A huge party of 12 players were able to defeat him after a long battle. After defeating him, they saw the back-story behind all of it, explained by a mysterious boy that was locked up inside the tower. The main event opened again and people can now also attempt the tower as often as they want.

Well my video card decided to die just before Halloween, so I just spend time with my wife.

Too bad I missed all the fun, but at least my wife was happy. =)

As far as eventing goes, in addition to the quest we had some events on the 31st.

In the afternoon Ayu hosted an event, I think there was a storynight (people tell stories with words given to them, a sort of Improvisation) and a costume contest where players had to dress up and then explain their costume. I wasn't there (work) so I don't have more details.

During the evening I hosted a 4 parts event with novices, novice-events have the advantage of making all players equal.

We started out with a poring smash in an Izlude town clone, lots of porings filled with items, the little halloween novices had to whack them to get the stuff inside. There was healing items (for the other parts of the event), as well as chance items (obb, opb, wrapped mask, taming giftsets), and various other equips or misc (elu, ori, haircut coupons, pet eggs, slotted shoes and mufflers, etc). The porings and drops were quickly killed by the avid novices and we moved on to the 2nd event.

The next part was inspired by a post in this thread, that depicted an event on official server I think. I brought my novices to a Payon clone map and spawned Zombies all over the place, I then teleported to a spot and told them the first one to reach me would get a prize. The players could see my location on the minimap (I have an event-guild where I put all the novices in the event for easy teleporting). Most died, but a few reached me, the first one to trade me received a prize. I repeated this a few times, and was happily surprised at their skills to avoid the zombies, even if the mobs walk slow there was a lot to avoid and they had to walk to the other end of the town usually (I would recall them in one spot and then move somewhere far).

For the last part we moved to a Morocc clone and I used an unguilded character to open shops in the city, players had to find my shop and those few who did were able to buy some items (Novices start out with 500z and my items were all priced so that they could afford it), I repeated this a few times, then recalled everyone and made a last shop so they could spend their zeny for the ones who still had some.

Finally, at popular request we had 1 round of novice pvp, I warped them to a small map and after a countdown turned on PVP. Then I warped them to a special npc who handed them one last prize and a kafra storage pass to store their goodies.

Overall I think it was a fun Halloween, hope everyone enjoyed it as well. Talon events seemed really fun (love the thana maps!), seems ronin did something too, I hope we're not the only 3 servers who made something special. Now let's start planing for xmas! xD

I completely missed Halloween.  Did absolutely nothing to enjoy the wonderful day. At least I made certain little kids happy by giving them a haunted mansion to go through in real life, but aside from that... Nothing for me.

Oh well, time to wait for Christmas. That shall be the day where I go around from server to server.

Rudolph Zyaber

Pretty Decent Halloween I guess.  I had no amazing costume like I wanted (A Whitesmith with a freaking HUGE axe made out of foam) but the partying was pretty awesome and walking around with my friend downtown while he was in his kickass Master Chief Costume was quite the experience.  Sadly, he did not win the costume contest, the judges felt that stupid costumes > Amazing Costumes with a lot of work put into them =/  Them's the breaks I guess.  Will see if I can upload some pics later.

As for server related stuff, apparently Essence is still doing stuff up until the 7th of Nov.  or so.  I sadly can't check it out due to no computer that can run it around me atm. =P  I'll get tira or someone to post about it sometime.
