hai... Most suck, becuase most administrators are childish, foolish, and incosiderate of what a consequence really is. It's true even Zairik's server seems to go to fast, but in the end, it's all a matter of taste. To make the perfect highrate, someone would need to mathematically calculate so many things, redo a majority of monsters, and consider the inevitable difficulties. The beta time for this is extensive, of course. I could do it... BUT COME ON PEOPLE!! I have a life to live!! I quit Ro last week! XD; I'm only sticking around here barely to help around with newbies. Mostly, the issue with highrates, is they don't try and figure out what are the uptimes, and downtimes during leveling and therefore do not create any new monsters to compensate for the change in experience. Those that do, simply jack up the rates beyond belief which cancels out the point of having a high level. In addition there is more to change than the traditional texts, as I found out, such as skill strengths, mosnter strengths, and numerous limits that innitially make 125 the max server level. Ragnarok is starting to seem easy to me in the areas I've worked, only problem is the sheer time it takes to create such a thing.... To do it myself under the circumstances.... I'd say 2 years due to constant updates, and the fact I only have so much time to work with each day, plus I'd wind up having to remake numerous lengthy database scripts to corrispond with the premade calculations... Eh... /swt ... I probably lost you... Didn't I... Ehhh... Basically, most don't make it right, becuase they're too immature yet, and are too lazy, or new. I've found about 1 out of 10 server hosters are actually adults. Most are little kids with there tiny little servers trying to be "gods" becuase they're tired of working hard on other servers and through their overwhelming state of energy, but lack of understanding, believe they can make a better server thinking it's something super simple, when it's not. It IS scripting, and there are literally dozens of rather long scripts. Assuming I had free time all day, and no stress... I could make a new item DB 100% correct with about 2.5 more items... in abotu 2 to 3 weeks by myself. That includes fixing typos. The IDB I figure overall makes up roughly about 1/3 of the server size. So clearly it takes mutliple people, or a lot of time to make a really good server... So the additional point basically is... Most people take about 1 week to set up a server once they get the info and mainly only steal premade info from other servers, and places like RMS, or eAthena. So highrates aren't bad like everyone says they are... It's just that most administrators are not fully capable of making one.

As a wise man once said, "ah~ the ignorance of youth..."

And yet, the concept of paragraphs still eludes you!

High-rates are somewhat pointless because they do not scale up things appropriately. The basic premise is simple... you do not want to spend a lifetime grinding to get anywhere. However, because you set the rates too high, it becomes way too easy to reach the last level. So a whole deal of the gaming experience is gone right there. So then you raise max levels so it becomes harder to reach all that. But then you become very strong with so many stats to max and the game becomes too easy. then you start buffing mobs so they are not all jokes.  And so on and so forth.. and basicly, if you want a balanced high-rate server, you end up with the original gameplay, but all numbers increased in factors of 10!

A good high-rate server is a low-rate server :B Really, anything higher than that just breaks too many of the finer balance points about a sense of "progress" in your gameplay experience (what becomes the point of 98% of the monsters if you can just fly past their level in 50 minutes?).

the concept of paragraphs does not elude me, but apparently the concept of being nice eludes you.  That was uncalled for, and in a matter of speaking you didn't negate anything I said. If anything you expanded on it. I'm not impressed Skotlex.

It was my poor attempt at a joke. Seriously, I do not know if it is just me that has a hard time focusing when attempting to read a single paragraph that is over 20 lines long.

And I am not sure if we have the same point of view or not... if your statement is that making a high-rate server is possible, but you just have to make a lot of changes to keep things in check and balance, my statement is that so much effort is kinda fruitless because in the end you go back to how a lower-rate was supposed to be, then what was the whole effort for?

the whole amount of work is basically to fix the gaps. If you don't make more monsters, then you'll wind up spending years in ANY dungeon trying to get to level 999 or anything similar. In addition, the stats/skills need to be balanced, otherwise you'll wind up getting to level 999 with either an invincible character, or a character with really lousy stats considering all of the hard work. Most places don't do the math and figure out what a good median and everyhting is. I made a highrate like that, but was hacked. EVERYONE loved it, and the only real request was that I get more players since at taht point in time only 7 people had gotten on it. Fact of the matter is, had I not been hacked, it was fully possible my server could have been highly adored and well run. Then again, I tend to make a lot of enemies so... <insert random profanity here> ... Ah well, I'm bored with RO anywho!

About the paragraphs, sorry, I due tend to ramble a lot and only change paragraphs when I feel it is necessary. My view is that it's possible, but most don't take the time to do it right, and most honestly don't really know how. Any kind of ro server can basically be made to work, assuming it's done right and you target the right kind of players who would like it.

Alright, that's all I've got to say today. Sorry for mispercieving that as an insult over a joke~!
