Hello,

So I'm thinking about settling on TalonRO, mainly because of the population.

Can anybody give me an opinion and what they think about TalonRO overall.

Hopefully you can answer these questions:

1. Is WoE SE Active? How many guilds?
2. Are 3pp such as RCX/meth4u/potnd/romedic/custom grfs allowed?
3. Overall rating on population/community/gm team?
4. Is pvp active? Usually how many people?
5. Is it truly pay-to-win? (Be honest here hue, I'm thinking about donating a bit cause f-ck lowrate qq)

I'm from another lowrate called LegendRO. If you played on both, how similar do you think this server is compared to Legend? I feel LegendRO had everything I wanted

Im wiling to trade WoonRO pre-renewal items for TalonRO if that's allowed. PM me <3 If it's not allowed, pls edit this off.

I don't usually post on this forum anymore, but hey, why not :)

1. It comes and goes really. We are a server that's mostly focused on PvM as such a population is more stable and reliable. WoE tends to be either very active or not so much. I'm pretty sure it's quite active at the moment though. That plus some upcoming big updates.

2. Third party tools are strictly forbidden. Certain GRF edits are allowed but things like Pneuma timers are not. The rules page further explains on this.

3. Server rules are more strictly enforced on tRO than on your average RO server, so I'd like to think that the community is quite friendly. There's not a lot of trouble makers and if ever there are any, they are dealt with swiftly. To give you an example of how the server is very community-focused, check out the Yule Ball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryjUQx7T4Xc 750 players on one map, enjoying time together and playing minigames :)

4. Same as WoE more or less.

5. That really depends on your perspective on things. It's not pay-to-win in a way that you can donate for things that nobody else can get. Can you donate and get things a bit faster than someone who doesn't? Sure. But you will not be able to get anything that's unique to donators and you cannot be more powerful than them.

The server might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it has a large community to play with. That plus it being up for 9 years now, so you can be sure that the server (and your characters) isn't going anywhere.

TalonRO is not like any other server. It's highly customized.
You can read up all the changes here: https://talonro.com/server-features/ (you need to click through the 8 pages on the right hand side)

So even without knowing LegendRO I can tell you, no, it's nothing like it. TalonRO is a unique experience.

If you think "I don't care how a server is like, I just want to have fun playing it for a long time" then it's a pretty good choice. If you think "I want to play official pre-re RO with lots of players", you'll be disappointed by all the changes.

1. Is WoE SE Active? How many guilds?
sometimes more sometimes less

2. Are 3pp such as RCX/meth4u/potnd/romedic/custom grfs allowed?
No, No, No, No, No, Yes but i heard they suddenly tryed to say custom design on monster is illegal

3. Overall rating on population/community/gm team?
Probably the best and friendlyiest server you can play at!
But i think since you ask for (2) you be banned soon. (thats the reason why its friendliest server, all demanding people are long banned  /heh)

4. Is pvp active? Usually how many people?
~10+

5. Is it truly pay-to-win? (Be honest here hue, I'm thinking about donating a bit cause f-ck lowrate qq)
no true pay to win but it depends on your timespending you will have a looong time catching up to 1000€ donation but you will have already a powerfull start with 50€.
You can reach everything without donating but you need to set your goals wisely or you will have a long time grinding!

if u like tons of customs and a awfull op cashshop, go there. /wah

TalonRO is decent if you want to make friends. Just remember that if you get KSed, don't do the same thing to the offender. It may be okay to you to KS one another, but that person may report you without you even knowing even though he started it. Happened to me a couple of times before. Even mentioning the word "gay" can get you muted.

If you are looking for PVP, it is divided into two communities, which are the vanilla players and the non-restricted one where custom items/Boss cards/God items are allowed. This makes it less fun for those who are looking for a good old fashion PVP.

Just remember that this is not your average server where players are let to trash talk/do whatever and whenever they want. Overall, the server is great and fun as long as you are a decent player. :)

So only by conforming to a standard you can have fun and find the server great? You do have a point, unfortunately living in a globalized world you'll find a lot of ppl with different standards, saying yours is better is not a "decent" thing to do.

In the end there's really just one social rule: don't be an a******. Then you'll be fine :)

I think I got it. TalonRO is bad. I'm not trying to play sims.

Boreas requested this to be open, I think we can listen to what he has to add.  He's a staff of the server you wish to know more about.

I'm surprised a server like that has managed to stay online so long. My old server BlackoutRO in 2010-12 tried enforcing those sorts of standards, in-turn banning all the interesting people from the server. First the forum community became disjointed, then slowly the players filtered away to other games and servers.

Mind you, there were SFA updates going on at the time. Still, I'd rather not play a server where everyone's a stick in the mud square. To each his own. Good on you guys for keeping it together.

Yeah, I'd rather not play on a server that bans away all the "trolls." Those people make the server at least interesting. Drama is part of RO. (I like to troll a bit and create/cause drama)

Plus a server with a constant 1k+ player base, it's sad seeing a pvp population of 10ish. Personally, I'm a huge pvp junkie and a little bit of WoE.

Also, the P2Win component is a little too significant.

Boreas

Thank you for reopening this yC.

I only want to comment on two points basically.

1. Pay to win
I think we all agree that we don't agree on a global definition of pay to win. While it's certainly true that we have a shop where players can get lots of goodies for coins, one should not forget that those coins can be acquired by donating and by farming. A significant amount of coins are indeed traded in via voting points for example. Furthermore, our high-end class items can't be bought with money and certain features are only available to those who finish quests or farm currencies which can't be obtained through cash.

2. We ban "trolls"
Are we strict on our rules? Yes. Do we punish players without a reason? No. I think there's a huge difference between "trolling" and calling people "pinoy s*** eating dogs" for example. When it comes to discriminatory remarks or outright offensive behavior we will usually evaluate all evidence we have and issue a proper punishment. People can submit a Support Ticket and appeal their punishment in case they seek further explanations. On a server as big as TalonRO you simply can't let all people loose without any rules. I think part of our nine years success is that our community is not toxic but very welcoming. Just read our server reviews and you will know what I am talking about.

All in all I won't force anybody to play on TalonRO, but I would appreciate if people actually played on the server before they judge it. Popping into a thread on the RMS forum just to bash a project they have never been part of sounds kinda unfair to me. Just my two cents.

Oldschooler

The people who tend to do reviews are the people who are loyal and totally love the server or those who were just banned or something. It's two extreme mediums and both are bias. I seek the most unbiased opinion, which is hard to come by, but some unbiased opinions were given here.

I did not intend to bash TalonRO as obviously something was done right to last this long. But having such a high player count doesn't necessarily equal a great server. Although, I'm sure Talon is decent.

It just wasn't what I was looking for, a more woe/pvp orientated server.

I've been back to RO for about 2 and a half years now since coming back from a 2 hiatus. Although I like the current meta, I loved the old meta before.

Old meta as the video below shows:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8VcxKLt5A4

LegendRO had the best balance between pvp/woe/pvm/social. If anything knows a server with a good balance between these, lemme know. As far as I know, no such server exists anymore.

After logging in, I roamed around Prontera then lagged. Why? I discovered that the 1000+ online count is mainly @autotrade players. This may be the reason PvP population is 10ish.

I looked at the shops and saw MVP cards sold at 30-50m. One thing I can remember is Lord of Death with modified effect which goes to the Garment. Yeah, customs; lots of customs.

If I recall correctly, I uninstalled the game after a while.

If the game is no longer on your hard disk then you must have uninstalled it. :) Anyway, our vendor count never goes above 30% of the overall online counter during peak hours. With our autotrade restrictions and limitations you can be sure that having lots of shops is another sign of a healthy community. More active players = more shops.

Triper

I will just leave this here and lock it to prevent Molotov from being used.

- If you enjoy TalonRO, good, stick with it because it won't die any soon.

- If you don't like, stop saying that it's bad because of your Donut X, instead accept it as it's not your type of server.
Servers are like ants, there are thousands of the available, so Ctrl+T and simply go play another one, RMS has tons of them listed.
If you can't find something good at the moment then try Steam or GOG because they've thousands of different games worth to try besides simply caring about RO. If you want a personal suggestion - Crypt of the Necrodancer.
