How do new servers garner Facebook likes so rapidly?

As the title says, how are these servers popping out of nowhere, with absolutely no hype, able to put together so many likes in such a short space of time?

Some of these servers I see can have only a few hundred page likes, yet a single post of theirs could have thousands of likes, with others only receiving single digit numbers. Or they could be putting together hundreds of page likes a day just days after starting.

How do you guys think they are doing it? If they are garnering false likes (which I think they are), is it worth it? Would you be more inclined to play a server that has 2k likes opposed to a couple hundred?

I suspect that most of the time it's the server owner / fb page owner buying likes. I used to think that a lot of likes meant something, but now it's a pretty big turn-off. It makes me think that it's either a really old popular facebook page (maybe an old server) that was converted and retained the number of likes or that the owner just purchased a bunch of likes. Both of which show that the server isn't going to be as popular as it appears. I've seen too many servers with thousands of likes yet only 20 online. It probably used to fool people at one time until people caught on.

I don't think it's worth it though. It shows that you're untruthful. It makes me think "what else would they be trying to fake? Hiding a bunch of @at vendors in a GM-only map?"

From a server owner perspective, I still don't think it's worth it. You won't ever be able to run FB Ads because you're going to be showing your ad to all those fake users. Unless you just have a lot of money to waste. I believe that it also hurts your rank on FB due to bad ratios between posts and likes, thus your posts likely won't be displayed on a persons feed, even if they are a genuine player on your server.

I always thought FB pages were meant to be there for instances when your main site or forum don't work and you need a way to communicate to players.

Any server that uses Facebook as main communication channel equals to insta-bad.

This is done via boosting your Facebook posts and selecting the audience you want.

Such as, i can boost my post for $10 and reach 8~10k people that are interested in Ragnarok Online.

For example;

This simple advert cost around $50, reached 34,871 people that had an interest in Ragnarok Online or have played Ragnarok Online filtering anyone else out.

It also got me 2.8k likes on the post and boosted my Facebook page likes.

I also target selected countries and age ranges.

Facebook advertising can be very effective if A, you know what your doing, B, have a budget to get your advert out there & C, has a knowledge of the advanced tools to render your target audience.

NOTE* BEFORE YOU GO INTO DOING ANYTHING LIKE THIS, DO YOUR RESEARCH, WATCH TUTORIAL VIDEOS OR YOU WILL BE BURNING YOUR MONEY AWAY!

Here is a little look at how you can target your audience.

All you do is type in Ragnarok and a list of anything Ragnarok related comes up so you can simply select the ones you want.

Potential with this target is 1.1 million people that are all interested in Ragnarok Online!

Thanks for that Shilo, debunks half of my post.

But still doesn't explain how servers can rack up insane amounts of page likes without posting anything. I saw this one server:
- Made 3 days ago (from when I saw it, not from today).
- Had one post explaining not very much (1 like)
- Page had <100 likes.
- 2 days later page had 1k+ likes without posting anything else. OP still had 1 like.

Shilo

Well with that being said, all i can think is that they paid for likes however i dont see the point in this as them people that have liked generally have no interest in Ragnarok so there is no point having them like your page.

Floki

I tried the facebook ad thing too, but it just gave me these fake likes in return and only reaching 50 people out of 200 followers on my facebook page. Some RO owners buy a facebook page that has tons of likes and merge it into one.

There is this thing called "Facebook Auto-like"

1. They'll ask for your account's permission using a Facebook App.
2. You'll input your Facebook page's URL.
3. Done! You'll receive fake likers on your page.

After 3 days, the app that you've granted access will post nude pictures using your Facebook account.

Boosting your facebook posts / pages is very useful, as it boosts your brand awareness

But buying likes is pretty stupid, as it lowers your overall edgerank and potentially reduces the amount of people that will see your page pop in their feed.

That's prob what these people are doing.

I use addmefast.com it's a site where you like peoples social media pages for coins and then you can spend those coins on getting people to like your pages back.

What makes it great is that I have scripts to bot this site so I have unlimited coins, I get thousands of followers/likes/reposts on facebook, twitter, pinterest...etc

Doing this doesn't give you real exposure but it's a great way to make a dead and in-active page look active. IF it looks busy then it IS busy which deceives potential followers into thinking your stuff is popular.

If they actually comment and share then it's surely effective

If they don't then it's just completely useless.

Well there is commenting and sharing. I don't full agree that it's completely useless to have thousands of fake followers/likes, it entirely depends on the niche and how useful those numbers are to the audience you are targeting.

i think fake likes are ok if there are at least some activity in the page. i mean a mixture of legit and fake  /heh
