It has come to my attention that there are quite a number of servers with quite a number of players online, ranging from 200-1k+ .
Why are they not registered with RMS? What could be the reason?
And how can they be successful without RMS? *shrug*

I believe some have the awareness that not all reviews on servers here are genuine. But sure there are legit ones.
If anyone can answer, that'd be nice for my 'market research',lol.

It's because RMS thinks, they build the private servers, and forgot that it's the Private servers that gave RMS it's visitors.

I used to refer people to RMS, all the time, but once, twice, thrice, all times, RMS admin only deletes GOOD reviews, and leave Bad reviews (of ppl who are banned for server rules), in the end, you get tired of it and quits.

There are s*** a lot of ways to get players without RMS.

One main reason is when you search private mmo servers RMS doesn't show up so only RO players would ever see their listing. However if you list on the other ones that cover a lot of other server types could draw interest from those playing a different game from seeing the game name on the side. Also there are a number of item/mob database sites out there, so not every RO player uses RMS to look up what they are looking for.

RMS is just a relic of the past, it's just an echo chamber for disgruntled banned players to lash out like 12 year old's, if you take some time to read any of the actual reviews for just about any server most of them are just word vomit rather than an actual informative review. The site needs a pretty big over haul (and perhaps a moderation team that functions) for it to be considered relevant again.

Most servers are better off without the RMS community.

Dude, well said!  /ok
RMS does more bad than good for populated servers like that. It's smart to stay out of here.

I'm currently running a low-rate server with a population of 2k+. If I asked everyone to post a review, we could easily take the top rank on RMS, but there's no point in gathering positive reviews if people would spam nasty reviews after being punished or if they don't like the patch.

I still check RMS regularly to check private messages and re-publish our advertisement on the LR subforum. RMS is great and I will continue using the forum but I don't think it has sufficient traffic to become an effective advertising method.

Unfortunately this is true, though due to no fault of RMS itself.
