First Impression Series

Someone started this a while ago. I was thinking of perhaps grouping together and going incognito on various servers and getting an overall first impression, mainly on community, GM professionalism, interesting features and points, etc.

Would anyone wanna do this with me :O

I thought that was the purpose of ratemyserver.net. Players getting on to servers, checking things out, rating them, discussing them, and so on. Or am I missing the concept of your idea?

I think she got the idea from a past thread where the thread starter had various videos and descriptions about his different server experiences. It was quite popular at the time and had received good criticism. In fact, some servers wanted him to visit and such.

Personally, I also thought it may be biased (as we are our own individuals) but as long as there is more than 1 reviewer for each rate and perhaps the reviwers would visit the same servers (does not have to be exactly at the same time), it would be interesting to see the results.

The difference between RMS and this idea is that we are delibrately having reviewers for different servers and informing people what servers are under review currently, etc. There is a structure to follow for the reviwers and so forth. There wouldn't be any "advertising" reviews as well--much more informative for the public to see. I'm pretty sure there are more differences, but Yusifer would probably know more since she started it XD. I'm joining because I would like to try it when I have more time, probably in September. This idea may or may not work out, but we're lacking events on RMS (besides recent drama, but that has subsided as well)~ Would be good to see more activity on RMS or things related to RMS, hence the name of this group with RMS in front I suppose xD.

Yes, there was some suggestion where RMS should form a Team of "inspectors" that go around servers and the write up reports to "review" them.

The idea can't really be executed obviously because we barely have enough staff but I don't reject this.  It's a cool thing to do and if some reputable/experienced people from the community can form the group then that will help to provide user with more information of servers than just the short reviews or in depth review.

Yusifer, however, I'd prefer the actual review/impression write-up stick to this forum for the benefits of everyone while the rest of your team can discuss other internal matter at places you like.

I think that it would be better not happen since being part of the staff and reviewing servers could end in more drama then help which is what is pretended with this.
People would think that XYZ review would be too biased and just go with something like "yC supports DafuqIsRO!! That's why Dafuq is always #1 at SUPER HIGH RATE Listing!!".

Personally, I see this like those Prospecting Companies which isn't mega bad I guess, probably will help a ton of servers to see where they fail and can improve to be better.

And I think that if you get more people on the team you should have some baseline about the people reviewing so that, when reading, readers can see more or less what they can expect from them in advance. Maybe that way someone could even request a 2nd opinion from a different person to see what they see since you've requests at that forum?
I'm saying to do something like DatGuy - WoE Fanatic, GirlOnElectricPony - PVP Whore, RamboPig - PVM KING, Z - All Around RO FAN, Hacker #225 - Custom Addicted, etc just to give a direction by who was this made and take out a bit of the biased from the reviews because that way people would know what is coming.

Triper, you raised some really good points =D. I know Yusifer has created application forms, review format, etc. Don't know if she included the ideas you offered, but if she didn't, it'll be awesome to have them implemented <3.

I just thought that it would be alright for staff members (but I suppose the point that you raised about yC makes sense, but it would be awesome to hear her opinions and gaming experience haha XD) at first. Perhaps the moderators can since they just moderate and clean threads, not own RMS or anything like that. Moderators of RMS are reputable people, so it would be interesting to read reviews from these staff members! However, if they are worried about anything, they don't have to =D. Just curious to read, that's all (and that Triper, you offer good insight and probably provide amazing reviews to read lol).

But yeah, to raise the credibility and effectiveness of this group, we definitely need to find more members ^^.

I already have it set up that you don't review the same server twice :v so x reviews server, and a month later, cupcake demands a new review; y would then review it, not x, as to offer a new view.

If you do this you should definitely do it in video. It makes it much more appealing and you can actually justify your comments with visual evidence. Just a suggestion.

Looking forward to seeing this come to life, I thoroughly enjoyed the video reviews made by that guy a long time ago. I wonder why he stopped.

What's the best video recording software? Fraps never works for me; I used Cam Studio before, and it was fine, but I did a 30min video review of WoonRO and the video didn't even save. Pissed me off LOL
