Hello all!

For the past 2 years, I ran 2 RO servers.  A midrate and a lowrate.  I've just recently closed my server, and I've decided to no longer be an admin.  But I thought I'd come by and share some of the more interesting stories with you all.  Just fun stuff, and my impressions on being an admin.

It's a long read maybe, but if you're bored you might get a laugh or two.

The good:

I've met many wonderful players over the past 2 years.  I'm surprised that many jumped at the chance to help when the server was still new, from things like writing guides to custom NPC quests, to volunteering to be an event GM, to purposely seeking out bugs for me to fix.
I also had two of the best co-admins ever work for me.  They were completely trust worthy, never did anything to jeopardize their positions, or abuse their power, which I thought was amazing.  I always had this fear that I'd log on to see one of them had used @item or something to spawn MVP cards for someone, or something.  But no, these two never did anything of the sort.
And on my off days, I'd just sit in Prontera on my admin character and chat with everyone, and I made a few good friends this way.  Always had some interesting chats in town.

The bad: (this is where it gets funny)

Oh boy, where do I even begin.  Let's begin with some GMs that worked for me.

One was my first event GM.  Once, when I was not online, he told a female player that he needed her help testing something.  Then, he uses @marry on himself and her.  The poor girl had no idea what to do, but figured it was nothing bad.  I look in the command logs, and find he had been using @hide to hide himself, and then he'd keep following the girl around whenever she was online.  When I asked him what the hell he was doing, his reply was "it's fun!" so I fired him.  There goes GM #1.

GM #2.  Oh god.  She was a GM for like, a day.  She wanted to give out event prizes every 5 minutes or so, which I said was too much for a small server just beginning.  Then she tells me that the best way to get new players is to go on other servers, and whisper people with a new char and get them to join.  So I fired her too, there goes GM #2.  After I fired her, she was like "It's ok, I'm an event GM on 4 other servers!"

GM# 3.  He started out being a really good event GM!  Players seemed to like him, he held all different types of events, and all seemed well.  Of course, I monitored his command usage.  He had spawned some MVPs on a GM only map, but he said he was killing them due to boredom sometimes.  I had no problem with that, after checking his inventory and such, making sure he wasn't giving out MVP equips or cards.  So I didn't mind that he did that.  The bad part came one day when he logs on, broadcasts to the server THAT HE'S HIGH.  And then proceeds to hit on a female character, saying he's had dreams that he's woken up next to her character.  But sadly for him, it was a guy playing as a female character.  He never logged in after that day, but I disabled his GM account anyway.

And then there was a 4th GM who didn't last long either, she said she had no idea what to do as a GM, then helped a guild exploit a bug.  She was fired pretty quickly.

As for the players, I have to say that drama is the worst thing on any RO server ever.  I don't get why people do it.  I guess I don't understand that mindset.

There was one player who hated me, I mean he went as far to post all over his FB page (I saw screenshots) of how much he hated me and yadda yadda.  Do you know why?  One day when I was sitting in Prontera on my admin char, talking with a few people, I talked to a female character about some movies we had both seen recently.  And that's the reason.  Apparently this guy was married to her in game, and because he saw me talking with her, he assumed I was trying to steal her away.  Keep in mind that they did not know each other in real life, and that the girl actually had a boyfriend in real life too, and he didn't even bother to ask me about it.  Yet this drove the guy into a blind rage, to the point where I had to ban him, because he'd sit in the novice area and tell new players "Don't join this server, admin is hitting on my girlfriend."

I had the usual assortment of players who demanded things, then quit because they didn't get them.  "Excuse me GM, can I have this hat? I'm too lazy to do the quest." and then I'd say no, and they'd say it was the worst server ever, then quit.

Another guy tried to demand free buffs in the healer NPC, along with a bunch of other freebies.  He was like "Put them in or my guild won't join".

And, oddly enough, I met a few very unusual players.  They'd join, ask me a few things about the server, then tell me it sounded good!  And that they'd join with a friend or two.  And then I'd never see them again, they'd never login again ever.  I didn't get why.

Funny stories.  So much with falling in love with pixels.  Seems Event GMs are the least qualified, easier to get hired and easily make a mess type of positions.  I didn't know one can work for 5 servers, that's too much.

Maybe that was RMS checking on your servers xD.

What do you plan to do with your RO life now you  no longer 'wannabe admin'.

Well, right now I'm trying to help find a server for my friends to go to, instead of mine.

I'm not sure if I wanna go back to playing RO actually.  I've been playing for years and years, and I've done it all so many times over and over.  I don't think it'll ever be as fun as the first time I started.

Though I would still like to script!  But I never want to be a GM or admin again xD

Well, I've never been an admin of any server, but I have been a Head GM(a level 90) on one, which I hope counts, haha. Anyways, here's my story.

It started out pretty good, I applied to be an Event GM, which I was surprised to see was a level 60 GM with @item. Even more surprising, Support GMs, which were levels 40s also had @item. It probably would've been smart for me to quit right away, but I decided to stick around, and I eventually did, for two years. I climbed my way up to a level 90 GM in a year and that's when everything started going down.

The Good:
(I'm too lazy to write a paragraph, so I'll make a list instead)
*The admin was pretty friendly.
*Things didn't start out balanced, but eventually was about 1 week after the opening.
*The other GMs weren't corrupt... until later on.
*There was a good amount of players, about 50-60 players at a time.
*The admin nor the other GMs were inactive.

The Bad:
*The admin wasn't the mature 21 year-old that I thought he was when I had first met him, but turned out to be a very bratty 14 year-old.
*The first GMs were the admin's family. There's really nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that they didn't know anything about Ragnarok. They all eventually stopped playing after a month.
*There were 6 GMs when I joined, and only an 8 player average. That means 75% of the people on were GMs. Most were fired after a couple weeks, though.
*Later on, 2 GMs were hired that no one even knew about. No posts on the forums, no record of a legit character, and 1 of them was only hired because he made a "cool-looking" website design and the designer wouldn't make him one unless he made him a GM.
*Other than being a Head GM, I was also a Developer for the server. There was another dev for the server, too, but I was the only one turning in scripts. None of them ever got used.
*One GM @item'd things for her legit character, and for her boyfriend, too. I reported her to the admin and it took 5 days for him to respond, but he finally fired her. All it took was her persuading him for a day and a half and she was back on the team.
*The admin PvP'd with donor equips and said that he could "donate to himself."
*The server's main page showed third jobs on it, yet there weren't even third jobs in the server.
*The admin was too lazy to even change the sprites to GM ones.
*The server was down weeks at a time.
*In the end, the admin barely logged in at all.
*The server population went from 60 to a 3 player average.
*I was the first to quit after the downfall of the server, then all of the other GMs also quit except 1, and the remaining server population pretty much went along with it.
*The remaining GM was a complete a-hole.

Well, that's all I can really think of right now. I still kind of miss the server, it gave me something to do after school, but it was still pretty awful. Sometimes, I still wonder why I stuck around. Two years, for nothing.

I seriously can't stop laughing at this one.  That's the seed of all corruption and he made it sound too legit to forget.  hahahahahhaha 'donate to himself'.  Yea go ahead give away some of the donated items to friends and sell some for real money.  There's unlimited supplies.

Something I found contradicting the bad list is in the good list is "*The admin nor the other GMs were inactive."  You mean at the beginning only?

To spend that much time on a server, for 2 years, it must hurt your grades if not life.

Almost sounds like mystic.... oh btw what about if an admin claims they donate to... "server funds" and that they do not touch any of said "server funds"  yet always seem to have donates/mvp cards/etc to sell for.. "cheap"?
*cough* inertia..

And speaking about server stories.. I could probably list alot from 9 years or so lol, 5 of which I actually staffed in the server, such as Mystic, Cursed, TSB, Ardent, Whiteout(*cough* nightmare), falcon, and some i cant even remember lolol
I still lol about one incident in whiteouut where the head gm decided to spawn all kinda of rare mvp in town, item god items dropping in town, and when i a mere support gm asked him what the hell he was doing... decides to mute and jail me, yet... I logged out as I kinda dealt with corrupt GMs b4 as an admin on tsb... quickly made new char, logged in banned the noob, msned admin.. who perma banned all that gms accounts rofl!!! as for mystic and tsb.. I wont even go there.. too much happened lol.... much of it is in rms forums already so... go ahead browse xD
Xarale ~ As others have said, I do believe this topic is done now.  Therfore I shall be closing it, because I'm sexy.

Ah, after the downfall of the server, I mean. When the server was at it's best, there was atleast 2-3 active people online, but after a while, I was really the only one that logged on.

As for grades, I managed to keep them at an A-, but I didn't really hang out with friends that much. Of course, I was still logged onto Facebook and stuff whilst playing, and most of my friends live close to me, so it wasn't really that hard for them to come over every now and then.
