From the title itself... How?

Well... In my opinion... I want to create a very Successful Ragnarok that may, at least last until it'll be part of their life... Well, I do hope it'll last forever, but everything is not that durable anymore, and if we're talking "reality" then... There's no such thing as "forever" in a game, because a "game" must evolve.

I'm ready to spend a real money but the problem is... I'm not really that experienced, and I'm always inactive then active everytime I play a ragnarok... Because I get bored of their cycled events and whatsoever. I had an experience in an RO before... Well... That's a long time ago, and I do have some techniques to thrill players, but the problem is... How to make the server.

Now honestly... I want to make a server that doesn't have cheap website. Like, once I clicked a website, that website will take me into places. But now, it's all about stupidity... Same wallpaper, same background, and same LAG. Well, that kind of server website turns me off. So expect me I'll do that... If ever I'll create one.

If I want to make a server, I want to have everything in balance... No imbalance, and once an imbalance item found, I want the Team to respond swiftly, without delay.

If I want to create a server, I want them to keep on checking the forums to utmost excite them. Well, now... Some servers don't have forums... And literally... No forums. And that... Turns me off.

If I want to make a server, I want people to not easily get bored... Like one-hit, Max Level. That makes things worst. I want them to be excited.

If ever I want to create a server, I want the host to be a very GOOD, anti-DDOS, anti-LAG host. Not some other hosts there that says "100% No lag" but once bought, BAM everything is lag. That turns me off too. I won't say the host's name.

So... Are these opinions fine for a beginner like me? But I do want to learn from the owners out there.  /no1
So, if there are other comments or volcanic reactions, please do reply or at least message me. I am utmost excited to see it.

Thank you very much.

You do realize that hosting a server with < 120ms pings for all countries is impossible, right? You will always have someone "lagging", that's why big companies like Blizzard host servers on every continent for example.

What Boreas says is very true, you need to aim to a specific group of players, like for American/Asian or Europe/Some Asian countries for example. If you try to satisfy everyone, you will not satify anybody.

It's very hard if you are a beginner and have no knowledge/experience. Making friends/contacts is very important, they'll help you if you need them to.

Also, money is really needed. A good website costs $300 for example and some 2nd hand websites can go from $60 - $150. By myself, I didn't have much money to buy a website, so I had to learn, it will take you a lot of time but you'll be a good admin if you have more knowledge about running a server instead of relying on others.

It's not easy, specially if you are almost alone, you'll have to think about a lot of things. Nowadays the server's competition is harder, you'll have to have a good website, your server needs to have a decent start (100+) or if not, you'll need to be a very good admin and give daily events/updates to your players, so they know you are making a really good effort and they will stay.

Well, basically, it's not easy, I've seen a lot of server failing so hard. Just look at the:

Server Advertisement Section

And look for the servers, most of the websites are down or with really poor population (5-30). You have to be very strong because anything could discourage you on the way to open your server or having it online.

for hosting OVH, Blacklotus, and Hetzner are the 3 most used by scene publishers in almost every single pserver of other games in the western region also try not to cheap out and go for a discount vps host claiming to have advanced ddos protection just go for hosts with dedicated machines

if you really want the players i suggest marketing to thailand, taiwan, japan, and china as almost all top pservers there have a peak of 9000+ players during daylight hours

the biggest pservers for the last 3 of so years have all been pretrans or heritage so episode 8.2 and episode 10.3 are generally what people want to play the most in the world but this will also requires more work as you will have to find a legit aegis build for these episodes and carefully add in/take out things that dont belong and be careful as what aegis contains will vary greatly depending on the publisher it was intended for because for instance some publishers may of gotten cards or gears earlier then they should of or later then they should of or be missing things entirely ( jRO doesnt have KvM BG iirc )

advertising is going to cost you a fortune depending on how far you are willing to go personally it cost about 900~1400 usd a month to keep the peak hours of my some of my former games at 800+, in ro spending that much in the right places will probably net you 2000 ish if done right given ro's overpopulation and the unfortunate fact emulation exists in ro also imo ro isnt really a good game to fairly make money from so if youre expecting to make the average 30k per month that most other games make with under a 500 online peak youll be dreaming unless you manage to make a successful renewal server which has been done as thorRO or w/e its name is in thailand last i checked 5 months ago was usually floating 7000 online

also i would recommend to stay away from things like eamod instead make your own bg modes, and maps be the server that stands out not the 200th chronosro clone for the past 5 years and also make your own unique automated events mainly look at some things concepts that worked well in other games are try to figure out if they would be accepted and fun by majority of your target community

as for staff i would not recommend looking at ro forums but major sites like ragezone try to find developers with a very long history with a variety of games especially games that are not sourced since people who are creative with work a rounds are always the best ( will prob cost you 2500~4000 a month depending on their skill and will ) but if you can develop for ra/herc yourself youll be good 2 go if you think you have a strong will for it

if you want an antihack shield or whatever gepard is probably the only one that doesnt really have major issues and will block very low tier bots but anyone can get around that with ahk and sprite editing, also adelays because of nodelays is another one to pick up on

zeny sinks are also a nice idea in the form of gacha boxes you could put costumes, safe to + certs, res stones, exp books, bubblegum as rare prizes and fill the rest of the box with okay items and junk items to balance it out a very big item if you aim for episode 11.1+ will be slotted sunnies and if you have a very large server about 600+ you could probably put these in a zeny gacha box without your players all quitting in hatred

while woe generally drives a server be sure to keep pvm a thing you could add introduce some things needed for woe in maps that used to be popular to level in like blue herbs, witch starsands, immortal hearts, stems and you could also push it a bit further by changing pharmacy to create more than 1 item per catalyst used as this may drive down the price of things like cwp and blue potions which helps new players a lot if you plan to make a low rate and will also reduce the grind needed to run woe guilds

It is impossible. But I guess it'll be possible as long as we start slow?  /heh

I tried making friends but most of them are quite... quite selfish and sometimes I just don't understand... I'm not really into some Dev's work, but if ever there's someone out there who's willing to teach then I am very much willing (Lol, it would be better if that person is kind-hearted). And yes, not only money is needed, but common sense and business knowledge. Well, I'm not really planning to buy a website, I wanted to "create" one but the problem is

Time is  /x
Money is /x (I can afford a bit tho' Lmao.)

Anyway, overall I am so pleased about the information you've given to me. By heart, I shall keep it.  /kis
