xD No. As I said, my e-mail I signed up with here is intentionally my spam e-mail box. Basically, I don't want yet another contribution to the endless spam it all ready obtains.

I keep business in one e-mail, conversing with friends in a different one, and sign-ups/spam in a third. n_n Thus, that, at least, isn't a problem. I just get annoyed that people want to bother me in e-mails with e-mails that are often impersonal.

I actually look in my RMS PM box. xD Thus, if someone seriously wants me to consider looking through their server, at least bother me in a place where I might actually consider it. =P

I got one of those e-mails, too. I don't really appreciate it. I'm not in the market for a Low Rate server at the moment, and if I was, I would crawl through the list on RMS and find one I liked.

For those of you thinking about e-mail advertising, please re-think it. Instead, make your advertising here on RMS more appealing. Get more people to write reviews (with good grammar) and make sure your information is up-to-date. My girlfriend and I rely heavily on the reviews and ratings posted when trying out new servers. I'm sure others do the same.

E-mail advertising is likely to lead to the same response that it did with me: "How in the name of all that is holy did they get my e-mail address?!"  Instant point deduction for the server, assuring that I'll likely never try it, even if it DOES sound interesting.)

Lol. Recently, someone here in RMS is looking on the member list and mailing the members about valiantRO. Any action regarding this? And yes, I received one of the emails. >.>

if u mean pm ... i m not sure if there is a way to stop it, if you mean email there should an option to hide it.

There are some good ways to advertise using email, I used old guild forums that i played with back in the day to see if my old guildmates still played RO and if they'd come try my server. I got alot of nice responses from my old friends and many of them did come try out SocialRO.

but spamming the e-mail of people you have never meet.......you won't get the same friendly response.

Its true that spamming e-mails wont get alot of positive response, but there isnt much option left for most people that can do the genuine method, or at least try.

I love these pics, but this one kidna fails. The proper format is a list of features, white background and a single pic.

I know, maybe he was trying to make something new.

Forcing all the leaders in the world so that they force their followers to play RO is the only option left! We should make a plan!

i think email advertising pisses ppl off more then anything
when ever i get the emails (and i get tons) i check who else they sent it too XD and usually its an endless list of ppl that received the exact same email

imo if they at least customized their email then that'd make good advertisement, but it'd be very very tedious having to send a customized email to each person
Last person who spammed my email got a few days of DDoS on his server...
I can only hope the next time that person's server gets phlashed.

I recently came up with a interesting idea for advertising RO Black Dawn.  It is kind of Guerrilla Marketing.  Basically, instead of advertising in competition with other servers (IE on top sites and RMS) i decided to advertise outside the RO community, and try to bring new players into it.  Thus, even if the players did not stay at ROBD, they might stay in the RO community, and thus create a broader base for other server owners to advertise to.  The following are example of what i started.

http://community.livejournal.com/ro_black_dawn/profile

http://groups.myspace.com/roblackdawn

I also began advertising int he various MMO, video game, and RPG groups both there and on face book.  Hilariously enough, this effort was met by near total disdain in the ROBD community, mostly because the old guard players seem not to want to be bothered with new people.

What do you guys thing, kudo's or fail?
The most dangerous thing a GM can do is to play NPC combatants as if they have brains, goals, and the desire to remain alive.

I too have advertised through livejournal and myspace. Also a few other social network sites. \

Oddly enough..and I dunno if this is typical but I was able to get more new players in my first 2 days of going public than I have since. I dunno why lol. Seemed like an odd trend cuz now my server's ranking on vote sites and on RMS have improved considerably but less people are joining.

But yeah, Ive been going to various gaming forums trying to get people interested in my server or RO in general.

I advertise as much as possible. :D Myspace, LJ, every forum I'm on has a link in my profile to the server in it. I even made flyers and put them in places I knew people would be. :P

Just some suggestions from a player point of view. Think of who is your target audience. It may be different from each server depending - are they after RO experience players (ex-official RO players)? what age? .... generally the better knowledge of who u want playing on your server is better. Target them. Dont say... I want everyone (very desperate).

1. What do those potential players do other than play RO? For example: I noticed many RO players are fans of Anime/ other online/Ps2/etc games..

Deviant Art. The result of searching the word "ragnarok" is 54,368. Not sure if that a big or small number. But if u widen the search to something thats Anime related or Computer Games or MMORP ... I am sure the results would be larger.

Gaia Online. Lots of kids have an account.

How about Photobucket.com or imageshack... notice that everytime we post a snapshot we normally use either of these.

Youtube? the word ragnarok will bring up 34,700 videos.
Filefront ? other media hosting websites.

If u are targeting more mature players - friendsters, (i think thats how u spell it... an RO friend asked me to get one), myspace (as corpsechan suggested)

You could even go specific to regions/countries/languages... on some servers, there is a large community of Phillipinos, French, Latinos, etc.. (Are you targeting only english speaking players? or are u targeting others as well?)

Just thought of more RO related website
skill simulator websites - himeyasha, ragnasim (official iRO fansite - might not be P server friendly)
Price check website - iro.snipah (unfortunately has stopped recently. Look out for any new ones)
RO player database - ropd.somatika.net (this has recently started updating again... its not approved by Gravity)
Guild forums? invisionfree.com

I got to know ragnarok online from a gamewebsite. I was searching for some Guides/Cheats/Strategies/FAQ for some computer game I was playing and might have clicked on a banner. Example: neoseeker.com

These are just suggestions. No marketing/advertising experience at all... please seek professional advice before committing any money to any of the suggested sites. Some sites may not be friendly towards P servers.
