Title: Are you...
Post by: needgoodserver on Sep 21, 2020, 01:08 PM
  /omg

I'm starting to think that RO community's just stupid.

1) they keep searching for servers with the same functions & features of those they've just quit
2) they openly admit the game needs some improvements and new things, but then when they see customs, they run away
3) some things in this game are uber unbalanced (asura, acid demostration and if RE, almost everything) no one cares enough
3) demi human should work only in pve, while in PVP the default defense and mdef should be calculated better, and work in its place. Also, NOTHING should be able to bypass target defense. It easily goes overpowered when the game allows that.
4) critical damage ignores defense, shouldn't this get fixed?
5) they seem to dislike Random Options on equipment, are you idiot or what? It adds diversification to the game!
6) Headgears. Headgears. Headgears.  --- Why the f*** only headgears? What about everything else?
7) Card Effects. Some are just stupid. And no one seems to care. All because purist would annoy the server owner to death.
8) The stat system. Builds? pfff, most of the possible builds are (and have always been) super obvious, Its time to improve.
9) SKILLS, you must've noticed by now. Most skills in this game either suck or are super overpowered.
10) Players are simpleton and do not argue about any of the point I aforementioned because most of them do not eve think of such things.

What's wrong with people enjoying an old, simple game the way they remember it being? I wouldn't call them "stupid". I call that nostalgic.
Even with the simplicity, flaws, and imbalances, it's still a fun game. In my opinion, complete class balance is really lame if it takes the uniqueness out of each class.
I can't speak for everyone, but when I see too much custom things in a server, that's a turn off yeah because it means I'd have to relearn everything I already know about the game instead of just being able to jump in and play with the knowledge I already have.

If you're looking for a more complex game with more balance, might I suggest something like Dungeons & Dragons? Neverwinter Nights is the closest video game adaptation to Dungeons & Dragons, so maybe give that a try.
Lots of cool, complex systems there, and lots of cool persistent worlds people have made which is kind of like a MMORPG, though a bit smaller.

I'm currently playing Dungeon and Dragons Online (DDO)

Neverwinter's super extremely OP and it's pvp based.

At least DDO is pve type of game, so its unbalance doesn't affect the meta gaming.

My latest build is a Human Zombie Barbarian Wizard.

I wish I could do something like this in ragnarok. It would be uber cool.

PS:

What the hell is wrong with learning a mmorpg mechanics\learning again?

Learning is part of the fun all those cool numbers and things.

YUMMIE!

New content doesn't always mean good stuff, learned that the hard way from official renewal servers. Balance is also non-existent in Renewal. The game became a One-Skill-Kills-Everything.
I guess that's one of the few reasons why some players would prefer the old pre-re servers rather than the renewal(with new content).

Also there are only few pre-renewal servers with unique content that lived to tell the tale, but died because of internal corruption/lacking funds.

I've checked some few videos recently on 4th job, ofcourse characters can solo everything with their 0 cooldown skills dealing 10-20 million damage. Highest I've seen was 55m from shadow Cross(sin-x 4th job).

Wow.

It seem's Ragnarok may be not the Game for you.
Sorry, but as with everything > Personal Preference.

You seem Angry over things that should bring Joy.
From what i can take, the Problem is not the Game.

Its you.

As a server dev/owner myself, I think that we pretty much all concentrate on keeping the basics because it is what most people expect, yes, but other than that, doing this type of complete overall is highly difficult and would require a lot of time and skills.

I personally work 40 hours a week and it's already difficult to manage my time with my actual job and working on a private server's project. I personally work from a computer so I can easily work on my server, but I still have things to do which are work related hahah.

Re-working all the mechanics + adding a tone of new content is not an easy task, it would require a very experienced staff to accomplish. Most of the MMORPGs out there have big teams that works day and night on maintaining the game as stable and as balanced as it possibly can be, yet people still complain about classes/skills being unbalanced.

It's getting harder and harder to find good staff members, almost no one is really "passionate" by this game to a point where they won't see it as a shore anymore and most staffs owners don't want to pay a tone of money if there's a high % of chances their project ends up attracting no one. It's a vicious cycle really...

This game is fueled by nostalgia and it's pretty much what still attract most of the players. I've seen many servers attempt what you're mentioning, but as I just said, people are rarely satisfied and the more new mechanics you add the more chances you get that your player base will think it creates even more instabilities.

This game has been out for so long, most of us like it the way it is because we forged memories and human brain is how it is. Before playing a graphically out dated game, even if I personally think it still holds up because of its charms, people will play the most recent MMORPGs, which most of the time they will give up because it's P2W or unbalanced and wait for the next "big" free MMORPG, which never come.

I personally think RO was pretty much perfect around episode 10 (before they messed with the monster exp). The only good things that happened after that were more (but unfortunately unbalanced) content. That's because of the jump from P2P to F2P, because in P2P the goal is to make the game as fun as possible whereas in F2P the goal is to make the game as addicting as possible.

Anyway, because the game was already perfect for me, I don't really feel the need of customs added.

But there's another huge problem with customs. I've seen tons of "balance changes" on various servers over the past 10 years and none of them seemed 100% reasonable to me. There's also been tons of discussions between emulator developers on these things, but you can never really agree on what the perfect custom change would be. Not changing anything is something the most people can live with. People rather take bad official balance rather than the server owner unbalancing the game left and right.

Also as said customization takes a lot of effort.

If you really want to turn the game upside down you'd probably start of with a server than only has like 10 maps and max level 20 and then you slowly expand, make votes on ideas, etc.
