Are there any RO servers that have gone in a completely different direction?

Just a curious question.  Lots of servers have in depth customizations, some will even have custom classes and such.  But have any servers taken the game and gone in a completely different direction with it?  Like changing the fundamentals of the game, changing the open world structure, etc.

I once heard of a server that had Star Wars related content and classes, and a dark / light side mechanic.  And one with some interesting features, like setting mobs to the player's level dynamically.

MouRO definitely fits into that category with their automatically adjustment monster densities and difficulties as well the ability to swap many things around at any given time is quite unconventional for an RO server.

PokemonRO is doing something cool, they have a PVM system that replaces conventional PVE with 240+ pokemons, 160+ more coming soon.

Events are even pokemon themed. Their latest project/addition is Pokemon PVP (you become the pokemon) and it is looking totally cool; they plan on expanding this system to more events and even maybe even WOE. Also their casino system is so addictive, pokestadium gets the whole server rowdy every single time.
It is definitely worth a stop to check out if you're interested in new content.

MouRO definitely fits into that category...

Woah this takes me back  /omg I remember MouRo, it was original for sure.

On heRO we have lots of unique areas (towns, dungeons, fields, mobs) with their accompanying world maps, it's new content, but that's still within the feeling of RO. I wouldn't say it's in a different direction.

I saw someone on facebook working on RO in VR, seemed really cool.

Many years ago I remember seeing porn/hentai themed RO, but basically the only difference was naked sprites.  /heh

I suppose if someone wants to make their own game, they could use the shell of a RO server and make their own maps, class, mobs, but might as well make the game itself while at it so as not to be constrained.

Fun story, I was once on a server and a person posted for help asking why one of the NPCs was nearly naked. It turns out they had played on a hentai server, and then used that GRF and data folder for the next server they played on.  They were embarrassed.

U can try Aquaragnarok.com too.

AQUARo has no unique jobs, but it has tons of original content with a brand new world of Ro including more than 200 custom maps and 500+ custom monsters and bosses as original content.. Can give it a try

After nearly 2 decades of playing RO, I was also looking for some server that broke boundaries. I've tried my fair share of servers. From some long forgotten RO with custom takes on 3rd jobs to RebirthRO during an era of surprisingly great balance despite heavy customisation and "P2W" gear (At some point, farmers > donators in terms of wealth.) I tried Renewal to just get a feel for new systems, because vanilla RO was mechanically almost entirely known to me. Renewal ... it's a pale comparison to what a slightly customised pre-renewal brings in terms of options.

But then, browsing through reddit, some server caught my eye. EinherjarRO/Project Einherjar. Trudging through the irksome website and going through the partially up to date wiki, I noticed the most varied array of customisations. A mastery system to make high weapon levels worthwhile, a full set of custom classes (12 trans classes then, 13 now), an enchantment system that was/is an insane zeny sink for great power while still opening up options and playstyles, a less punishing refinement system (except for Lvl 4 +10 weapons), ...

Since then the lone developer and admin, with helpful discussions with and between the players, has changed some deeper mechanics as well. The abstract ASPD was changed into APM while also making ASPD% and Agi/Dex more balanced. Defense has been fairly revamped (though it has its own issues.) Forging has become an important part of leveling and the end game. Status Effects were made to apply to bosses without being overpowered (but some, like Poison from Venom Dust or Stun from Cart Termination, are still strong!) Monster element now also dictates part of their damage element, which is a massive buff to them!

It isn't all rainbow and sunshine though. Discord is sometimes quite the storm with discussions on mechanics, classes or even which buffs and nerfs should be applied to mobs, ... (most often between me and someone else/some others. /heh) But, if you're not an a****** out of the gate and stick around, you'll find that people will help if you ask and have some patience (and as long as your request is reasonable.  /ok)

If you want to know more about EinherjarRO, here's the link to some of the resources
Wiki: http://home.projecteinherjar.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page
Control Panel (to make an account & download): http://home.projecteinherjar.com/fluxcp/
Discord (most up to date info): https://discord.gg/VcKQZdQ

The admin currently does not advertise, which is why the server population is pretty low. Things just aren't balanced well enough in both of our opinions (a rather high bar to be fair) to open up to a wider audience.

TL;DR: It's EinherjarRO, links are up thereˆ

P.S. I'm currently not in the Discord because life got busy (this post took me 7 days to write.) I should be back in 2 weeks or so.

In my own personal experience, and I would say after playing for as long as my living life; TalonRO, though they do not break the boundary's of the game, they actually had/have the most accurate version of ragnarok for playing I am saying this including the official servers, the only other server that compares is NovaRO, but they use the renewal system and the content is tuned for "end-game" material, so it has a serious myotomy problem, while something I consider like AncientRO, uses skill customization and brings in some much greater mechanics to useless skills that obviously have been broken and unplayable since the start of the game.  /sob

But that is the complete opposite of what I asked about lol.

Also I'm not looking for a server to play on, but reading about some of these is very interesting, especially MouRO and EinherjarRO.

Einherjar is really good, the dragoon class can actually compete with the Soul Linker class for mobility in some areas of the game, that is kind of exciting if they can do things like dash, or gunspear shot(GunReign -  Area Effected Skills, but in a line instead of just the area, though another storm gust would be welcomed to me). I also like the idea of beast master again, and another buffing class.

I couldnt imagine to say anything about mouRO, its dead, and didnt really actually provide anything, infact I mean nothing other than good revamps from private servers have been mostly the only content, because storylines shouldnt really be too intense in my opinion, because you did not ever need it, and it becomes confusing.

Playtester

MouRO is dead, but it was probably the best customized RO experience that ever actually went live. I usually don't even like customs in RO, but MouRO was like playing a completely different game. Felt a lot like an arcade game.

I'm saying, actually... ExileRO was completely PK, every map had a nightmare esque, DreamRO was extreme for it's max stats, you could instant cast scrolls as a Assassin with cloaking, that was pretty strong...lol

There was once a server that didn't have any classes.

How would that work?  Did you just pick freely from all skills or something?

That sounds really fun actually!  /lv

I used to play another mmo and one of the thing I liked best is you could multiclass. You had 300 skill points I think, and 30+ skill trees to choose from, most trees cost was 125 skills I think, so you could do 2 specialties and still have a few skills left for basic stuff, but some of the more intense trees took 250 (like bounty hunter). It made for some really interesting mixes!

In the context of RO, it might require adjustment to pre-requisite to balance it out.
