A different kind of Low Rate.
« on: Oct 06, 2015, 01:15 pm »
Has there been any Low Rate servers that have tried doing things a bit differently compared to what we have now?

By differently, I meant server features. What I've noticed so far these newly opened low rate servers have been relying on that "nostalgic feel", it's kinda bad to have many of these similar low rates appearing, specially on facebook ads.

Back on being different.
Has there been any new low rates that have @autoloot? @storage? Might include @go in there as well, but I'm sure low rate fanatics won't like it.
Dual/Multi clienting is also a bit of a feature now.

I might have found a low rate server that has at least one of the three main features you would see on mid rates, but have failed to look for servers with both.

I've been to on RaijeRO before, it had 20x 20x 20x, which I consider a Low-rate still. It had many convenience features(including @go) except @storage, which worked perfectly fine for me. The server lasted fairly long averaging around 200-400 population. Not really sure why it suddenly died, but me and several other friends had fun on it, rather than playing on your usual "Missing this nostalgic feel?" servers, I mean sure we miss that, but not the hell moments on RO(lol that no autoloot card stuck on portal).

So yeah, wondering if there are any devs/admins there who had tried, but failed, what's the reason? Or, by any chance are they afraid of opening a server with these settings? Relying on Nostalgia for players? Or is there an actual server with these settings right now? (try not to advertise servers, mentioning server names are ok I believe)

I love low rates and I really prefer @autoloot, I know some people dont, but for the same reasons you just noted I prefer it, or at least @arealoot.  I dont much perfer the @go or @warp, but if I had to choose it'd be @go I guess.

Most low rate fanatics prefer everything to be very vanilla, and i'm not sure why exactly.  I love seeing different features on low rates, as long as its not over the top crazy.  I like the nostalgia feel, however, it does get very stale after a while.  As much as I love grinding like the next guy, sometimes it gets old.  It seems to be hard to find a good balance between new and old.  :/

Group Grinding/Leveling is a bit enjoyable on Low rates when you've missed them, that's why I love low rates as well, but sometimes when I need to start getting some gear to pvp or grind on harder areas, I'd like to do it quick with my multi-clienting and @autoloot, enough to reward me for my efforts on repetitive slaughtering while not being punished too much for it. And yeah, I don't like @warp too, that's a nasty command meant for highrates :[

@autoloot seems pretty common, but @storage? Is that from anywhere? Because that would be too much, the server I play on just has storage and warps (not field) at kafra (same kafra locations as official I believe?) and that seems "enough" convenient but not game breaking.
Also multiclienting seems to be common in low rates as well, it's rare to find those "no multi-clients allowed" servers imo, at least that I've seen, none of those settings seem as rare as you say on low rates, maybe I'm just used to where I play.

Putting @storage and @go makes butterfly wing and kafra useless.
Dual clienting also ruins the essence of partying and the value of support classes.
Don't get me wrong but rates higher than 10x is dumb (imo). Claiming that the server is low rate when you can actually reach the highest level within the day. Not to mention that most of low rate servers today has this "additional exp" feature for every member in their party.

I would suggest you to play in a MR server instead.

We're not talking about rates here, I'm only talking about the server I've played on and lasted before. I have no problem with rates being lower than x5, I'm used to playing any rates really. (also I just noticed rms also considers <25 as low rate)

What I'm really talking about are features, and if you think Dual clienting ruins the essence of partying, half of that is incorrect. You can never survive going on thor and some other instances like ET. The best I could handle alone was on abbey 3, having a real support doing the work is far better on a grinding group.

Your points on @storage and @go are correct, but however I am sure the same could be said on mid rates. I really hate the fact that new low rates get a huge and nice start then dying off when people start to get lazy or had enough of that feel. I've seen it many times, trying to be different might just solve it.

True. It's a trend in the Philippines. 5 years ago, people were making PVP/WoE/BG oriented servers. Today, people are making classic servers with episode 11 mob spawn and quest lol  /heh. RetRO is still the best classic server imo.

Wow, low rates with autoloot and multi client... so much different.

Low rates with medium rates features (@storage, @go) are not low rates.
If you think casting quag is a good idea you or your guild heavily failed to create a viable guild rost.

These features/commands were examples, there are a lot more including resetters, so far I see new low rates limiting resets or making them expensive.

Rates are "rates", what differs servers from other servers are features, commands, staff availability, server stability, etc.

@autoloot: some like it, some dont. It makes things a bit easier and you dont have to pick up all the stuff which can be tedious and annoying but you also grant an advantage to ranged classes who dont have to walk over to the mob and get the loot.

@storage: I dont think you can achieve the "nostalgic feeling" with @storage......you can always grab HP/SP items from there, new fly wings, dump your loot and you could change character and restock it with your merch. For me personally, @storage has nothing to do with a low rate feeling and it takes away the "i'll go on a journey"-feeling when you go to Stings for example.

@go: BWs become useless and you save time on kafra warp/clicking through a warper if you got one. You miss out on a zeny sink and some low rate people LOVE traveling from city to city so it would be more convenient but some people will dislike it and you should add a charge (1k Zeny for example) to every use of @go

I have seen many lowrates with @autoloot, @storage I did see very rare, probably because you can exploit this command to unbalance a lowrate.
@go I have seen on more occassions but most often to city's only.
Lately there aren't many around like that, the development goes in the direction of making restrictions.
A good example is the dual client issue, it is an attempt to force something. It is quite possible to bypass it though.
Official dual was never an issue it was just that at some early stage they just didn't prepared it well enough to make it possible.
Though it was bypassed in those years already. That is the problem with the restrictions, with no doubt they can and will bypass them.
If your question is, are there any lowrates around based on entertainment?  This is dying, I don't know all of them but most will have restrictions that try to force you in a certain direction or gameplay style. You have to seek them, they are very rare but they do excist.

That was required for KRO but it was to bypass the regio restriction to get an account, dual (bypassing) was never a problem after that.
Everything someone says is always subjective by default. I only give my opinion based on own my knowledge.
A game feature should add something to the game not exclude but that is indeed just my subjective opinion.

Oh well, facts then.
When Pservers started they offered more comfort as official.
Lately more lowrates going in the direction offering less comfort.
Therefore the topic starter is wondering if there are still new servers offering more comfort instead of less.
Yes, there are still such servers but not so much as in the past.

Exactly, I've actually found one low rate with almost everything me and my friends need, but it never opened on the release date and the admin isn't even replying or doing anything.

Since i'm so picky about choosing a server, all low rates servers i've played in had at least @go and @autoloot.
Including the one i'm playing currently.
Yea i feel like i'd be nicer if they had @storage too but i'm fine without it.
I agree mostly low rates relying on "classic nostalgic feeling etc" that isn't appealing to me but not for everyone.
Maybe it's the highest demand of low rates players, so no @go, no @storage or even no @autoloot became "features" of low rates.
So i guess players who seek those commands will automatically go into mid rate instead looking carefully in low rate server listing.
Which means low rates with those commands will be kinda lacking of active players.

autoloot and storage are commands that are used to milk money from players primarily, but realistically do not significantly impact gameplay as long as storage is disabled from WoE.

on my server i have both autoloot and storage available, and it never has been a problem and never will be. "different" is a very small word in ragnarok, as the standard to modification to the game itself is basically nothing. as you point out, even having autoloot on a low rate is taboo traditionally, but realistically that isn't even a factor in making a server different.

if you want "different", it exists in this world. i won't point you to it.

it is best to maintain the default version, because it is way balanced. but balancing ones server is up to you and to make it different kind of low rate must have unique features like gameplay in other games /no1

we actually have the same view of low rates. I like the idea of having not much @commands and using what RO npcs has to offer.
