Okay simple topic, tell me what you think a "Care Bear" server is.

And with a simple topic comes simple rules:
Follow the forum rules.
No mentioning server names.

That's pretty much it, so tell me what you think a "Care Bear" server is~

Cielte

A server that won't let me dominate PvP >: Rofl

DragonHero

a server that has sprites for monsters called the care bears. ROTFL!

Yes! When i was a kid i watched that show. LMAO!
Come and play RuthlessRO! Its my new server! And i am trying to make it fun! To find my server just click the link under the image below!

http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=detailedlistserver&serid=4347&url_sname=RuthlessRO

You

No AOEs in town.
No vending on the streets.
Do not Ice Wall in WoE.
No dueling in Pront.
Do not drop items in Pront.
If a GM says they don't want to deal with your request, do not press the issue or you'll be jailed.

All on the same server.

Sildan

A server that bends too willingly to player demands

Hanyuu

Only one castle per guild. (If a guild has a castle, it means they're doing something right. Too bad if they dominate, teach your other players how to play)

No taunting in the PvP room. (C'mon! How else are you going to get people to keep coming in? If you can't attack their e-peen in more than one way, they'll run away)

No harassment of any kind. (Ooo, I called someone a sitch replace the s with a b. Ban me plz.)

Word filters. Enuff said.

GM who gives you gear you couldnt get otherwise in an easy hide and seek event. (Sorry you don't know how to play, here's a +100 Brisingamen [4], it's custom so you can have an advantage over the losers who keep owning you)
I cannot quench your thirst
Because even if you yearn for the truth, you refuse to believe in it.

I cannot quench your thirst
Because no such truth exists that you are in anticipation for.

But I still want to quench your thirst.
Because I am the one the that put you into the desert.

Littlechan

Personally, I feel that lolkids taking over some of the more populated servers and proliferating the idea that since it's the internet, they can do/say whatever they want, and there should be no consequenses at all have made this idea of "Carebear" servers even an issue.

Some servers take it too far in limiting everything, I agree, but there's a reason why they have, and lets put that straight here.

Flat out harassment of other people, and I mean flat: Chasing them around the server, harassing them in the forums, and following it out of the forums, following them to other servers when they leave, to wherever else they are, including some huge privacy invasions where the target is actually somehow contacted in person in some method(This is not a minority problem either, and I have seen this a whole hell of a lot), is way too extreme. These kids defend their actions saying it's their "Freedom of speach" to make these other people's time online a living hell, and  tout the idea of the "Freedom of the internet" as the reason they can act like this. People play games for fun, to enjoy themselves, which used to mean meeting new people, making new friends, playing around with them, and finding people that you don't like and striving to beat the crap out of them. However it seems that RO and many other online games has slowly become, in many servers, where fun to some players = tormenting other people.

Now, back to the point at hand: PVP/WoE is initially hostile. Where a server lets every guild have a castle, and that no guild can have more then one(if multiples are opened), or forcing restrictions on classes in WoE(I don't believe nerfing edp or like 'power' skills = balancing it, I think the way the game is set right now is how it was intended, SinX's are easially countered, and their high attack is supposed to be a counter against how relatively easially they can be taken down), goes a little to the "Carebear" side

However, In the longrun, I think there needs to be a term for the opposite side of the spectrum too. Some servers out there artifically boost up the WoE competition by limiting how many people can fit in a castle: when the officials have basically every castle opened, some other servers only have 3-7 or so castles for the same population, which ups this sense of lolkid attitude, turns WoE into an event that feels like bashing your head against a brick wall for an hour or two just to get to the other side, and harms other servers who seek to try to keep the norm in WoE. They openly support the EXTREMELY hostile actions of their players, and provide little to no support in TRUE harassment cases. I'm not talking the "HE CALLED ME A RETARD BAN PLZ" people, I'm talking extreme racism, sexism, sexual harassment, and on. And on top of that, I've seen people who have never considered botting/using WPE before actually attempt to use them out of pure frustration on servers like that just to get the proper edge to the competition. What do we even call servers like that?

mmmm mkay question for you all then~

lets say theres person X

now person X plays in 2 servers, in both servers he picks a person and starts insulting them:

but in server A, he is muted + jailed for harassment
but in server B, nothing is done to him, and the victim is told to use /ex or walk away next time

is server A a "care bear" server?

Head Monocle of DOOM

Is it kiddy insults or nazi grade insults?
Proof or it didn't happen.

oohhh tough one... but aren't carebear servers largely affected by the community and not the GM's alone? sure he could be jailed and such but still it would be the community that sucks right? B is just like A only GM's never bother to do a thing =p

Alrighty then. Server A is not a Care Bear server and Server B would soon find a bunch of people sending bad reviews to RMS creating our daily rations of drama. In fact Server B should be ashamed of themselves for being so lazy as to not have at least thrown up a mute on person X.

depends on the insults really in that case, I'd agree, and possibly location. couple cases in point:

-New person logs in to check server out, has done /who, and @commands to check what is availiable. player 2 logs in, walks up to them, calls them a foul name, walks off. Since that sets a bad precident for the server with new people, should be acted on, and the person at least warned that it's unacceptable to use that language in the novice area. Jailing or anything more for this is too extreme, muting too, a warning on the first offense and mute on second, etc

-Old players in PVP, one keeps getting ganged, calls the ones teaming some choice names, gets called names back, then ganged more. The person ganged then reports the players for "harassment". I'd give the 2nd response for this, tell the person that it's PVP, and that it's the nature of the competition, and if they want to PVP more, and don't want to get ganged, pull up a team of their guild and go mess stuff up a  bit themselves.

-Any straight, extreme Racist/derogatory remarks, calling people ANY racial slur as a derogatory term meant to insult them regardless of the target's race, I'd probably mute, jail OR ban for a day depending on the severity of the infraction. People should know way better then that. There's that whole grey area here with Racial pride and "Owning" words that were once derogatory, but that's just weird, since it's apparantly ok if someone of the same race uses it between eachother, but the second you throw in someone not offiliated with that race, it's insulting, even when used in the same context

mkay, but where do you draw the line between, no punishment, and mutes?

i mean, like what kind of insult, and how does it have to be directed / used to deserve a punishment?
Gabrielle already answered the racial insult part

Edit: in fact Gabrielle answered a lot of them XD

okay so new question i guess,
if i walk up to a new player and call them an "idiot" does that deserve punishment?
if i walk up to a normal player and call them an "idiot" does that deserve a punishment?
and if i walk up to someone in pvp and call them an "idiot" does that deserve a punishment?

and if it doesn't desver a punishement, what would i have to do in those 3 places to get one?

Gabrielle

#18
It's all dependant on the infraction itself. No situation is identical to another, thus each needs it's own thought process behind it, and consideration. You can widely guess what the range of the punishment would be, but until a problem happens, you can't accurately really gauge what the final decision as to the correction will end as. Extenuating circumstances and all. That's my approach to moderation, anyways, and it works quite well

Edit : XD

1: warning that it's not acceptable, maybe mute/jail if it's done constantly, and consistantly. Attacking new people to the server isn't cool
2: no, because the easiest way to counter that and still feel "Good" is saying "why thank you! :D". Could be increased to a stern warning if instead of idiot, it's a string of curse words for no reason at all, and I mean like "F u u f'n fr go f ur mom" crap. I'd probably just remind them about 9 year olds playing RO if someone just said "F u" to someone. Racism gets a mute or more
3: no, it's pvp. Only if Racism gets really called into it OR the name calling is dragged into the extreme, out of server, onto the forums, out into interweb, etc.

I think...insult that doesn't have a reason deserve a punishment...

I mean, example:

A go to PVP, got killed, and insult the killer, depends on the insult (no racism, maybe just...something like...d*mn? can't thing any worse than that XD) can be leave no punished, since A's angry and doesn't have clear mind.

B was sitting at prontera, when someone come to him, and says "d*mn you" and then walk off, then he deserve a punishment...

that's just my opinion...anyone want to correct it? please then XD

saying "idiot" doesn't seem so harsh as most new players are well aware of what the internet/RO is... it's a commonly used word that it's not so.... so....... argh idk the word! (safe? not sure)... as for pvp i don't think that deserves any punishment cause the ppl that normally hang there have way more insulting words that sometimes it goes personal, which is quite common in HR's and SHR's. and it's also natural for a GM not to be concerned by just one person alone unless you're trying so hard to start a drama or something. so i guess doing those stuff won't get you punished...

UNLESS!!! there's a goody, kiddie, and all that crap server named BarneyRO that bans even the word "stupid". then i'd guess you'd get punished there.

omg i don't even know what i'm saying... hope that helps ._.

XD <3 =]

if only names aren't withheld, i would love to mention one server which simply talking trash and sh*t (sorry Littlechan ='(... ) are quite carebear-ish for them... i'd love to write a review but i'm too lazy cause it only involves the community anyways but if i start one it's gonna be a rant and sure of it and it's gonna be fairly long

back to topic: every server turns carebarish once a new server pops up w/ more dramas/QQs/Flames/corruptions that the previous
it's like this... two guys are talking... so guy 1 says "dude, my server has a buncha corruptions and GM's giving donor items for free to their friends!" and guy 2 says "lmao, that's carebarish imo. mine more has blah blah blah flames, blah blah blah QQs, blah blah blah insults, blah blah noobs, haxzor kthxbai, better than you, etc etc than yours!"

thing is, only the most recent server with the most conflicts to rise is the only true non-carebarish server. other servers w/ severe conflicts are carebarish enough if they don't match up to any that has more problems.

gawd, i still don't know what i'm saying -____________________________-

@J3... can i at least post Quotes or links about the server i'm talking about? or at least not say anything in the review section and go for "see for yourself *posts links*" instead?

just read the review rules =(

but do you think it's ok to write anything that doesn't involve any GM/admin whatsoever and just the community?

I think its all up to personal opinion, but in mine, yes, server A is care bear-ish. Players should be smart enough to be able to avoid confrontation if they don't want it.

What would you do IRL if someone was calling you names? The smart thing to do would be walk away, ignore them, THEN if they continue, find someone of authority, a police officer (IG GM), and ask for assistance.

Srsly, some people need to grow a pair. Not saying that about anyone in this topic so far, mind you.

My understanding of the term must be off.  I understood "Care Bear Server" as meaning a server which enforces playing nice and G-rated conversations. The first time I heard it was when someone called my server a Care Bear server, which I didn't take as an insult, in fact that's kind of what I was going for from what I understood. Family friendly target audience, chat filtering, and not allowing others to harass players or use foul language by muting them. I thought it was funny though, I played a game called "NationStates" once for about a month. I named my nation "The Oppressed Peoples of Care Bear Kingdom". It was quite hilarious to read about the corrupt dictatorship where people were executed in the streets daily (eliminates the need for prisons) and children were forced into military camps at a young age to instill a service to country. Cell phones and cars were banned and people were forced to learn 5 languages and eat less than sanitary food while listening to daily nationalist propaganda. Yes, the rules on my server can be unfair and pointless in your opinion, just don't call it a democracy. I'm the oppressive dictator of Care Bear Kingdom. Have a nice day... or else!  ;)

The person getting muted/jailed/ban for insulting will usually call such server a carebear server. But I'm like Zairik on this one, I want my players to play nice and have g-rated conversations.

Besides, I like carebears ^_^

Two words, hyper-mall.
Warp Girls can be convenient sometimes, and even though sure, you can warp to geffenia floor 3 with little to no traveling needed, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you're strong enough to take on the things inside.
Healers can be useful just to push the inevitable into the dirt so you can get on with your poring smashing.
But hyper-malls just kill off any sort of feeling of "achievement".

Nothing says "You're a soft, squishy little newbie cake that can't do a thing for him/herself" like a mall that offers everything, including cards, for little next to nothing.

And even if they're overly expensive, what's the fun in buying something?

Sure, you can go off on your hunting/raid parties, but a person with infinitely less skill can buy it all the same, leaving you feeling like you've been playing one of those old Mario Spin Offs (No matter how much you practice, or how insanely skill you are, little Joe-Joe from the 2nd grade still manages to kick your large, bulbous shin).
