Title: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Usagimimi on Aug 09, 2012, 11:43 PM
We are recruiting individuals who are passionate, fair, and who are knowledgeable of Ragnarok Online, its mechanics, and private servers in general. The goal: to join servers and review them as to grade their potential (at that point in time) for others to view, and as to help the administrators improve the first impression and accessibility of their client, information, and features in general.

We offer critique, suggestions, and overall just a new perception of the server in question for players and administrators to review and consider.

Accepted applicants are expected to write one review a month (500+ words; min. 1h in-game experience), preferably with video/audio components of 15-30min (not mandatory).

Application Rubric

You must include the following information in your application:

- Your name
- Your age
- Your MSN/Skype
- Your timezone
- Your rates of choice
- Your years of experience as a player
- List of servers played in the past

- Why do you wish to acquire a volunteer position as a reviewer at FIRST?
- What qualities or talents can you offer our existing team? i.e. other languages, experience
- When you're looking for a "good" server, what characteristics / features do you want in particular?

This will help with your Staff Biography should you be accepted.

"Other Information"
1) Applications are to be submitted in English, as to be understood by the current FIRST staff.

2) There are no age limits to qualify for a position; however, you are expected to have at least six months playing experience in the server type of choice (LR, MR, HR, SHR).

3) All positions are voluntary and thus non-paid.

4) Positions are open to individuals who currently do not possess a staff position on a Ragnarok server with the same rates as those of which the individual is applying to review.

i.e. If you play an MR, you cannot apply to review MR servers, as your opinions may be biased / skewed due to comparison or simply to bring your currently-playing server into a better position.

5) You must have acceptable writing skills in order to qualify. We only accept quality reviews; this means, good punctuation and sentence structure, great grammar, etc. We aren't Nazis about this; however, you should be able to write properly. No slang. No "chat" language.

6) If approved, you must consent to applying for and sharing your MSN or Skype address. We do not approve of AIM, ICQ, YIM, etc.

7) If approved, you must also consent to the staff guidelines (which will follow the hiring process).

8) All applications which do not comply with these guidelines will be ignored.

9) You are expected to write one review a month (500+ words; min. 1h in-game experience), preferably with video/audio components of 15-30min (not mandatory).

"Review Information"
Reviews Are Graded Under the Following System:

- Website Grade /10
- Patcher & Screens Grade /10
- Forums Grade /10
- Donations & V4P Grade /10
- Community Grade /10
- Administration Grade /10
- Stability Grade /10
- Feature Grade /10
- Guild Competition Grade /10
- Economy Grade /10

- Final Score (/100) & Critiques / Remarks

So before applying, make sure you know how to properly rate and describe these different categories.

We'll be shifting to SMF in a bit, so posting here is probably better.

And I know Ganondorf from Pumpkin; maybe he'll apply.

Bump.

FIRST has been inactive for about three weeks due to medical reasons, but we are still looking for reviewers! We have about five reviews requested which will take a month or so by myself, so hoping to see some applications to decrease the volume.

PM if interested / post here / apply on the board!

Just wanted to say that we are always looking for more reviewers! We got a new volunteer recently, but we are still searching for staff members and additional volunteers. There will be more updates soon once things get less busier for Yusifer and I and that FIRST gets more staff members. Reviews are still in progress nevertheless!

Link to the Board: http://first.epicbin.com/forums/ (http://first.epicbin.com/forums/)

Thank you for your time! Our application section is on our community boards (guidelines are provided). For more details, feel free to send a Personal Message (PM) over the forums to one of the Administrators there!

Thanks a bunch~

Hrm. I'd like to try to help, but I'm not sure how good I'd be.
Is there a way I could make a review of my experience with a server I played in the past, just as a kind of template? Of course the review would be dated, this would just be a way for you to see if I would be acceptable or not.
Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Yukino on Oct 21, 2012, 07:49 PM
Since Yusifer is busy at the moment, I'll help and say that's fine =D. However, that review won't be representative of a FIRST submission since it's not your first impression. I'm assuming you meant this is for your application ^^. You can send it over a PM if you'd like (to both Yusifer and me)! For new servers that you would like to try, you can submit them once you join the team~

Check our forums out for details about the process! We have a staff section that's for any reviews in progress (staff can post there before public submission). We have a general template for members to follow to better help organize points, but members are free to edit it a bit. It's posted on our forums as well.

Thanks for taking interest! We definitely need more reviewers and get our activity back <3! Would love to see your review soon ;D~

No problem. I'm gonna start that sample review now. As for the interest part, personally I think this'd be great for me! Helps me work on my writing skills, gives me something to do with my life, helps others, it involves Ragnarok Online, and helps me check out servers! If I get accepted. The only way this would be better is if it came with minimum wage! /heh

$1 a year D<! Lol haha XD~ Gives people the motivation to try out new servers... a bit.
Awesome that you are interested~

I'm going to get a new laptop with a dedicated graphics card in November, so by then, I'll enjoy my time with RO more haha <3. Yay for Asus laptops!
Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Juggernacho on Oct 21, 2012, 11:00 PM
Oh my goddess, I got Asus too! I love it! I kinda want another one, just so I can set that one aside for schooling. This one was set for gaming, but because it's my only one, I gotta make sure to keep plenty of space open for school work.

I just want to say that I'm almost done with that sample review, but it's not gonna be finished for a while. I need to focus on some school things for now. I should be able to get you two the review by Thursday.

Almost done! Right now I just gotta finish the forum review, and the overall, and keep from passing out along the way! Then you two can see if my review writing skills are worth it, then I'll fill out the actual application. And if not, at least I tried!  /ok

Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Juggernacho on Dec 08, 2012, 02:25 PM
Not much. My finals are almost up. Once they are, I'ma finish making a game on RPG Maker 2003, maybe put it on Newgrounds. I'ma make that application that I never got around to doing. And I'ma see about making a tragedy play. Oh, and if I feel up to it, I'll do a review for that low rate server that's been wanting one, just so it can get done(I know, I'm going for SHR reviewer, but I figure I'd help out).

How're things on your end?

Someone hit Yusifer up .. does she have whatsapp or something?  Wait I might I'll check ... I think she called my koodo rip off evil plan before I cancelled it.  *gonna check ... *

No need to rush Juggernacho, everybody is in exam mode these days except the oldies.

Well, I only have two classes this time around. My only on campus class final is the test day on thursday. I have an online class, but I'ma use a persuasive speech I recently did for the persuasive essay I need to do for the final. /no1

However, the teacher hasn't opened the final yet. So for now, I'm bored. I might just start on that application.

Alrighty. I ask because I have no clue how to make an MSN email. I planned to make one just for FIRST. As for Skype, I don't use/trust it. Last time I used it I got a virus or something.

Bump.

Sorry for the wait, guys! I haven't had Internet since the end of September and was only able to get online for a few minutes at a time whenever I stopped by at Tim Horton's. Not much time between school, work and other tasks + was too poor for Internet.

I have a guy installing Internet tomorrow morning so I'll be reviving this recruitment topic as of now in the search for new team members. It is still just Yuki and me at this point (and Juggernacho, should (s)he still be interested); I'd love to see more interest, as the requests have been at a stand-still.

Apologies for those who have been waiting for a review or for a response to an application!

Post by: Juggernacho on Jan 30, 2013, 09:09 PM
Yeah, I'm still interested. I just don't know what to do about the email part of the application. To my knowledge, MSN has ended their email, and I don't trust Skype, so I've no clue what to do there.
EDIT> Oh, there's a hotmail thing on the MSN site. Is that their email service?

Oh, and I'm a dude.

Skype is safe to use; it might have been something unrelated, or a download of Skype through a non-official website (by accident, perhaps?) that is alerting your Anti-Virus of a trojan or infection. Maybe a KeyGen or something similar?

I've noticed that Skype and MSN are thoroughly integrated now, but by registering at hotmail.com for an e-mail, you can still use MSN messenger through the mail function on the left-hand side. Otherwise, there are mirror downloads on third party sites, or websites like ebuddy which can still connect to the host and function as an IM properly.

Otherwise, I am on Facebook, but that's a last-resort deal.

Spoiler
Wasn't sure if male or female, due to RMS saying you're male, but FIRST's profile says female /derp

I'll check out Skype again when I get more time. Right now I'm busy with math homework, which I have a hard time with, so it might be a while.

Hehe, I don't use Facebook. Nor Myspace, Twitter, etc. Never saw a use for me for those.  /hmm

Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Usagimimi on May 31, 2013, 12:21 AM
Yeah, I've been really inactive. I won't be able to do reviews for some time now either. I just got out of a physically and emotionally abusive relationship that involved the death threats, the police and a broken 2,000$ computer. I was using that, obviously, to review and do videos, since its i7 processor and RAM was high enough to support running multiple tasks at once.

This is my current computer:

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-One-D270-26Dbb-Netbook.73534.0.html (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Acer-Aspire-One-D270-26Dbb-Netbook.73534.0.html)

I manually upgraded it to 2GB, but those specs make it pretty obvious that even just running RO, I lag a bit. It's not built for gaming, thus the "netbook." I don't want to wrongly label servers as laggy, unavailable, etc. because my netbook isn't actually able to run RO 100% itself. That would be wrong, misleading and unfair.

However, I do envision picking up the project later down the road when I buy a new computer. yC keeps bugging me to buy a new PC, yet she never offers to finance it lol :P As if I have 1,500$+ coming out my bum.

But I'm glad to see people interested in the project! I hope to become more involved, but since I can't actually contribute at this moment, I don't know what to do other than monitor and direct, if that.

Oh Yusi! >< You've been through a lot... I hope everything is better on your side now.

Lol, your old computer is better than my current one XD. i5 still, but I love my graphics card <3 [Ultrabook, dedicated graphics card, for under $750]. Stopped using PCs for a while...

You really like Belldandy now haha~ The series was pretty interesting for me =D. And, it's good to have you back!
Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Fruit Pie~ on May 31, 2013, 05:26 PM
Jesus Christ an i7. How much RAM? That sounds like a stupidly overpowered computer for recording RO videos in relatively low resolution.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your recording software setup?

The new computer isn't up to par, yes, but the other one seems to have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Is there no cheap-ish middle ground?
Title: Re: [Recruitment] Looking for Reviewers for the Team
Post by: Usagimimi on May 31, 2013, 06:17 PM
It was my gaming PC in general. I had it before I started doing recordings. Had that PC since '10.

I upgraded it from 4GB to 8GB myself after purchasing (DDR3). It had a Tier-2 laptop graphics card (Radeon 5700 or something). I still have it and am hoping to be able to salvage at least the RAM out of it, but he pretty much trashed the poor thing. The screen is popped out and keys are missing :(

But yeah, definitely did not buy it for recordings XD I bought it for the Sims 3 mostly because my older PC had a poor graphics chip and couldn't run the expansions simultaneously, even for the Sims 2.

I actually posted my PC somewhere on the board in Off Topic. Will find that post. I don't remember the processor other than the i7 bit.

x

I think it was purged. Topic was old :(

Sorry to hear that, Yusi. I hope things only get better for you from here on.

I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I can't say much here. My laptop has intel i5, and it works good for gaming for me.

I think I gotta re-learn how to download servers. At this point, it's definitely my fault downloads aren't working. Though it doesn't help that some servers don't have any download guides, or they have crappy guides that don't help. /pif
Anyways, my family's getting ready to move, so I likely won't be able to do any reviews any time soon.

QuoteThough it doesn't help that some servers don't have any download guides, or they have crappy guides that don't help. /pif

Something you can mention in the review, most definitely :)

I think I found a nice Dell that's pretty much my old PC... A little less powerful (i7 but no turbo, lower cache and RPM), but it'll definitely be sufficient. Graphics Card is better since it's newer, so that makes up for it IMO. Can't buy it anytime soon, though.

Went to the PC place and they told me that it'd be cheaper to get ^ that one (1,000$ after tax, but more if financed (interest)) than to repair my PC... So... :( Very disappointing news.

Oh my, this got bumped down to the second forum page? Well that just won't do! Not at all, I say!

Who amongst you shall join the fabulously over-glorified world of the FIRST Reviewers!?

Yuki~ I wanna play ragnarok, but my server is down for maintenance.
I just wanna deal with some unfinished business, then hunt for a new server.  /sob

And did you see what I asked in the FIRST shoutbox?

I made a guild emblem design for FIRST!! Now we just need someone that can make it into an emblem while still keeping the design.

Not anymore. I had some free time so I made it xD

It doesn't have the detail of the original because of the limitations of working on such a small canvas but I hope it's good enough.
