I got an advertisement mail from Ragnarok Revolution this morning. Not sure how they got my email, not that its very hard to get, but still I'm sure I never gave them permission to contact me about their server!



Oh and someone should tell those twits that RMS doesn't allow outside linking so their banner is not showing

My wife just called me from work to let me know that she's gotten one too. Not surprisingly, they've deleted her post on their forums too, asking them to not send mass e-mails.

Would love to hear what Kisuka has to say, seeing as it's his server.

Rofl, if you indeed got a spam e-mail for your own server, whoever is doing this is doing a horrid job of trying to make your server look bad.

Might want to show this to bentheexo, he seemed pretty hell-bent on taking action.

By horrid job, I mean that if they wanted to take you down, they sure wouldn't try to contact you whilst doing it(the e-mail you recieved).

I don't think any offense would be taken, more than a few are notorious for 3rd party programs, harassment of staff, hacking, et cetera.

it's just too hard to keep up with those "big name" servers x.x they take all the people who play servers x.x i have had rro online since 2004 and its never had more then 100 ppl x.x (not including autotraders)

My server has alot of people who like to spread rumors, last thing i need is a rumor that RRO spams ppl going around.

To be perfectly honest, I really do not care what one person says when the light is shone down upon them (Bill Clinton *coughMonicaLewinskychoke*), but to not take personal responsibility for problems that arise off of hardware, or software that you "own" is shear idiocy. I admit I antagonized Kisuka, but it still does not allow for him to be a complete utter "Johnny Knoxville" especially to the people that actually hold authority to take back complaints. To be brutally honest, I hope that if this continues Kisuka is held responsible for the "exploit" that he himself caused.

Doing this is easy, there are php scripts that allow you to spam email like this using a website.

Zone, with php script faked header mail servers like gmail or hotmail's can tell it by checking the reverse DNS entries and notice the domain is faked.  If gmail / hotmail didn't put it in your spam box, it's most likely originated from the real server ... so i believe it's more of an exploit.

I got the same email upon checking my universal ro spam mailbox, it's in my inbox.

I am more interested in guessing who done it.  I don't think it's a player.  The person / group need to have these knowledges:

1) Be able to find the exploit in a contact form, which isn't hard if willing to learn.  I believe it's an injection.  But normal players shouldn't be bothered to do such thing.

2) Have an RO mail list with unknown amount of emails with many of us in it.

I also saw 68.5.231.116 to be related to the email.

They spoof'd the helo address to look like my ip also x.x damnit all >.<
I don't think they will be able to exploit my contact form again, i added some things to it to protect against such attacks and spoofs.

I apologize to anyone who got these annoying spam emails.
