Guide- How to Play on a Server
« on: Dec 31, 2008, 11:38 am »
okay...since not many people know how to play on a server, I'll try to make a simple guide about it XD

first of all, you need KRO/sakray. Because almost all server need it (item sprites, etc)

you can get it here: http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=download_kROLinks

second, open the website (the one you will play)

third, follow the tutorial, download everything you need

fourth, make your ID, you can either use _M or _F for the first time, or you'll need to use control panel (CP), depends on your server

fifth, read the rules! there's no reason "I didn't read the rules please forgive me".

sixth, start the game, make your character, and , done! you're ready to play!!

additional:

don't forget to check server's status

don't forget to check if the GMs are corrupt or not (for this, you can try to ask your friend, or maybe you can try to see review on here, thought it won't help too much since there's too many unfair review)

don't be a jerk

don't act like you're smartest people

if you're having problem, you can try to ask GM, or other players, but be sure not to SPAM question, most GM will ban you if you SPAM your question, because they need time to answer your (and the other)'s questions

if anyone want to add, then please :3

Oh, sorry, then I'll act as a newbie.

first of all, you need KRO/sakray. Because almost all server need it (item sprites, etc)

Excuse me, but where is this KRO/Sakray?  I can't seem to find it and I don't know what to do with it when I get it.

fourth, make your ID

How will I make this "ID"?  In the game?  On the website?  I can't seem to find this either.

don't forget to check server's status

If I've downloaded everything from the server, I'm naturally going to assume it's up

don't forget to check if the GMs are corrupt or not

How can I tell if a GM is "corrupt"?  What do they do that is wrong, how will I be able to know for sure?

--

You're forgetting that the people who will be reading this "guide" won't be familiar with RO.  You could have linked to a kRO/Sakray download, you could have told people about control panels or registration pages, you're telling them to read the rules with some retarded reasoning, and you're telling them that everything will be fine, instead of giving some handy tips that say if the client crashes due to a gravity error, you should make sure that you have an sdata.grf file in their folder, to run sakray.exe etc.  You're being too vague

You're also telling them to check a servers status, also being vague, not telling them what this means.  You're also telling them to make sure GMs are not corrupt, but this is their first time on RO, so they won't be able to tell how their being corrupt and whatnot, you're still being vague.

tl;dr you're being too vague

Well I guess I'll add on to the guide.

  • First of all, you need KRO/sakray. Because almost all server need it (item sprites, etc). They can be found here
  • Second, open the website (the one you will play) For finding that you're on your own.
  • Third, follow the tutorial, download everything you need.
  • Fourth, make your ID via the method described by the website your playing in.
  • Fifth, read the rules! there's no reason "I didn't read the rules please forgive me".
  • Sixth, start the game, make your character, and , done! you're ready to play!!

Additional:

  • Don't forget to check server's status. Most sites will have that displayed in their homepage. Just because you can download the client doesn't mean the server is currently functioning.
  • Don't forget to check if the GMs are corrupt or not. This can be accomplished easily by asking the community and/or going though the server forums.
  • Don't be a jerk.
  • Don't act like you're smartest person/people.

Now Omi would you please read the last two points and think about it for a minute.
Proof or it didn't happen.

I'm not being a jerk.  I'm not acting like the smartest person here.  Ironically, by you saying that, you're the one being "the smartest person"

I would so go into a long-winded speech about why this guide sucks but damn am I drunk.  (I used a spell checker for this too for your convenience)

edit: coincidentally, you just copy and pasted what littlechan said and even you are being vague. Think about it.

I simply added on it like littlechan said could be done. To get any more specific you'll have to look at a specific server.

Littlechan,

yes, put more effort into writing a guide if you are writing one. This guides fails in many ways. If you are wondering why? then re-read all of Omi's posts to better understand.

Cheers,

greetings everyone!

I'm new to RO... so forgive me if I may sound noob-like.

But anyway, I want to play at blackout RO but it needs sakray\kro(or whatever you call it). So, I downloaded sakray, through a torrent from this site, and when I installed it(after the download completed) it wouldn't  patch.... my question is, do I need kro to run sakray?

I think not, because kro and sakray is different server (kinda like idRO and sakray idRO, you need to register 2 times if you want to play on both)

if you can't patch, try dexter's update pack (posted by zone, you can search it here) or valkyrie patcher (forget where to get it)

oh!! thanks! right now I'm downloading the RoLite i found from this site because it works just like the kro installer only much more smaller.

thanks btw! ill search for that later.

EDIT: I tried the patch but I can't connect to the server even when I can surf the internet.. what seems to be the problem?

hm...you can't connect to blackout? or sakray?

if you can't connect to blackout...there's a chance that blackout is down at the time.

if you can't connect to sakray...maybe your IP/proxy/don't what's that called XD has been blocked >.<

waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! did you get to read the torrent via uTorrent? cause a torrent itself is useless unless it's fully read/added/seeded(?) (errr i don't know how to put it).... here's the site

http://www.utorrent.com/

-download the latest version
-install and open the application
-and add/run your Sak Torrent at the application and wait for it to finish downloading (approx 1GB or so)

yes, I actually prefer torrents then direct downloads because they are more faster plus the fact that the download doesn't need to start over when the connection disconnects :D

So a summary of what I downloaded from this site

*Sak_setup1210.exe
*Raglite1210.zip
*dexters_sakupdate_patch.zip

I'm not really in a hurry to play a private server, so I can take my time to read guides on how to update correctly. But most guides I find are those that are outdated.

oh and btw a screen shot of the auto patch program(freshly installed with raglite, didn't install dexters_sakupdate_patch.zip yet)

I can't read korean nor can I comprehend what that series of question marks means... maybe one of you can decipher the meaning.. hehehe

when i read this topic its more like you all talking her motivation towards a bad way  ;D you all think that the guide is (BAD) but no need to rub it back in her face if one person says her wrongdoings its okay he basically says its will not work for newbie's we just need to correct it i think she will appreciate that more than everyone giving her bad credit. atleast she is trying her best to make a good guide give her some credit for doing her best. we all need to get along  ^.^ or we can ask the moderator to make a topic for cursing there u can curse as much as you want or give people bad credit <----- dont think that will happen<----- this was just a joke>

so atleast from me for doing ur best u get a <6/10>
Effort is much more worth than a good guide  <---atleast for me--->

i meant a tl;dr on my post

i'm sorry but should i say a bad guide is oh so amazing?  there are about 20391230193 things she could have done better, anyone could vouch for that, and that it's something that is explained on server websites about 100 times better in general

plus i don't know if you'd realise but people new to RO don't look at RMS first thing they'd probably read the servers forums the look at or whatever
