EarthQuake Reduction mini-guide

Boredom presents...yeah, anyone remember MvPing pre-11.2? That was some easy times, now, after gravity did that "mvp buff", it's getting harder and harder to survive an MvP, so i've put up some tips and tricks for those who are having trouble with RSX/Bapho/Ifrit, here are some reductions obtainable by cards and buffs, since reductions do not stack unless they are the same, it goes like this:100%-25%=75%,75%-33%=50% and so on :
-20% Raydrick
-50% Assumptio
-40% Alice

These are the basic crap, easly obtainable depending on your server, reducing the total damage to 24%, if you are on of those guys who are lucky as heck and have a Deviling and GR, then the reduction goes to:

-40% Alice
-75% GhostringDoesnt work
-50% Deviling
-50% Assumptio
Only someone lucky as hell can have this kind of crap, but this is how it works:
100%-40%=60%,60%-75%=15%,15%-50%=7.5%,7.5%-50%=3.75% Should actually be 15%
Having EQ's damage reduced to 3.75% is a very good defense, but as I said, do not expect everyone to have this kind of crap, unless your server has high card drop rate or is an old server, so instead I will continue the above(at 24%), any self-respecting MvPer will proberly have an Alice and a Raydric, and hopefully a priest supporting him (Try to solo Bapho, RSX or Ifrit without Asura on a low/mid rate)

24%, Since this skill is magic then lets use my other guide to help :
http://www.ratemyserver.net/forum/guides-b/mdef-guide/0/
Doest work...

A good idea is to use both Neutral Reduction and MDEF,
Other things about Earthquake, being a magic attack Earthquake CAN be blocked by GTB, but getting GTB is a very hard task, most high rates nerf GTB for being very overpowered, so don't rely on it much.

In total, Earthquake's damage formula is 500%+500%*Skill Level, which is, 5500% on level 10 (Which most bosses use BTW), but adding on, this is how the REAL full formula is:
{[MVP's Attack*(5+5*Skill Level)]/Number of Players Hit}*[(100/100-Neutral Reduction/100)*(100/100-Racial Reduction/100)*(100/100-Size Reduction/100)*(100/100-Boss Reduction/100)]

Extra notes: Mob's attacks triple when they are in Power Up state(Small red thunder around them), and since a monster's attack in RO=it's magic attack, then say hello to triple powered Earthquake, and besides hitting for massive damage on a nearly 27x27(Pretty much full screen) area, It's damage is reduced by players hit (No, you cant call a bunch of novices to die and let their corpses serve as an EQ shield for you), also, if you are assump'ed add a total *1/2 to the formula, Earthquake is also NOT(Bolded caps letters tend to attract much attention) blocked by either Magnetic Earth, Pneuma or Safety Wall.

Mobs also tend to spam EQ when they are near-dead, so becareful when they do that,

Other Strategies to avoid being EQ'ed: A good strategy to avoid EQ's damage is to run away from the boss, as when they start casting it, EQ is a pretty obvious skill to see it being casted (It's a long cast time compared to the mvp's normal skills), but still, if you can run away ~13 cells from the boss in that small time, you won't take damage.

If you feel like you have anything else usefel to add, then post here

Could u share the source of this formula? Thanks

IIRC, many RO databases have them, the most commonly used one is either rms,RODE or irowiki(ROcards.org is still usable but it's not as updated as others), and if you want to know why I substituted 500% for 5 then its because of multiplication, and the 100/100-X/100 thing is pretty much about converting percentages to fractions, even though, the 100/100-X/100 thing is pretty much the formula for any Neutral attack
Some Earthquake sources are here, even though, it looks like someone copypasted the desc. on the futurewiki to irowiki:

I have some questions about Earthquake (EQ). My focus is primarily on how EQ works on eA. Once we know how it's working on eA, we can begin talking about how it should actually work (as per official servers); if there's any inconsistencies identified.

EQ ignores MDEF
I noticed this in the eA script:

//Adds atk2 to the damage, should be influenced by number of hits and skill-ratio, but not mdef reductions. [Skotlex]

Does this means EQ pierces MDEF? (I assume Hard MDEF or maybe both, it's not really worth talking about Soft MDEF when comparing EQ, the reduction is too small to make any significant difference)

I wrote to Playtester, a Developer of eA.

Question: EQ damage is not reduced by MDEF on eA?
Answer: Yup, that's correct too. Tests did show that MDEF gets ignored by the skill. I don't know if this already works in eA.

Do you have any screenshots showing that MDEF works against EQ on eA? As you can see, the eA Developer is not 100% certain that the EQ formula has been emulated correctly.

EQ is also Long Range
If a player is standing between 5 to 13 cells away from the MVP, the EQ attack is considered Long Range, thus able to be reduce by Alligator card, Horn card, Long Mace, Blinding Mist, etc... and as LiteX has correctly pointed out - EQ will nonetheless bypass Pneuma.

http://rode.doddlercon.com/db/quake/eqcalc.php

Not sure if it's working properly on eA, I like to think it does.

Other EQ Strategies
1. Use Kaupe, a Soul Linker skill.
On eA, Kaupe is able to effective block all THREE waves of EQ.

Lone Wolf: "yeah, I'm just marking this fixed because it blocks ALL skills as of r13252. Granted fixing that brought up a new problem with earthquake. Kaupe on eA is dodging all three waves rather than one wave. Looks like a problem with EQ."

http://www.eathena.ws/board/index.php?autocom=bugtracker&showbug=1452.

2. Portal Casting
For some MVPs, in particular Baphomet, you can lure it near a portal and begin attacking it. When it indicate a Green Bar above its head, retreat back into the portal. Wait for a few seconds, ... and start attacking again. I solo Baphomet with my ME High Priest. Enter Portal, cast ME... then retreat... wait.. and repeat. Takes a about 8 MEs, before it dies. Even if he dies on a separate screen, I still get MVP, coz technically I am on the same map just different co-ordinates.

3. Safety in numbers
On some official servers, players will summon Mercenaries to absorb some of the EQ damage. Don't expect your mercenaries to be standing after EQ. Most barely stand after Wave 1 of EQ. Not sure if it works on eA.

4. Cell 14
Provided you have a Tanker, and if you are a ranged attacker, you could technically stand on cell 14 and be out of EQ range. Or at least have a Priest standing by on cell 14, to resurrect the team members using Redemption after the third wave of EQ.

Thanks, il fix somethings...
Tested MDEF thing, it really doesnt work, a character with 99+X mdef recieves the same amount of damage as one with 0+X MDEF, il test the merc thing later

EQ is just to stop one person soloing MvPs

with more people on the MvPs screen, the less damage EQ does to you.
