Would you report your own friends?

Sup guys, so recently at this server I was at I found out a lot of dubious things that I've never heard before such as:

AHK
GRF EDIT
nolagdelay.grf
maya-purple hack

Screen shotted the whole thing. The only thing that kept me from reporting these guys were because they are people I consider an acquaintance. Think this is the case where in high school you see people smoking in the toilet and you don't report it because you'll get beat up if you do or you know one of them.

Thoughts? Was I being unethical?

Well, good luck, because the problem is not to say what they did to the GM, but what will be the damages after it. Usually, the atmosphere is never the same when we know there are cheaters on a server :/ So I think the most important is that you make the choice between :

- say nothing but I think that anyway it'll be find out later,  and I think it will have less chance than it's well done if it's someone else which find it out (like an ennemy guild which feel smart saying it everywhere without understanding they are killing the server).

- say something to the GM or admin in PM, and of course ask them to say nothing about you like if they discovered it by themselves (but never give too many details or people will try to play it "lawyers-like" trying to play on words and waste time and energy to the GM and Admin to say that they are wrong or "cannot discover that or that with that or thay way" and will ask for proof). Because you need to don't make the story well-known by everyone to don't make people think people cheated and to make them feel safe on the server. And if it's known, the cheaters will have to be "officially banned" (and maybe even named, but the problem of naming people is that their whole guild will be attacked or people will think that even if they are not the cheaters themselves, that they only got their stuff thanks to the cheaters, yes people are idiots and prefer to act like in Middle Age (when we think it's only in movies...)).
I know lesson of 2WW say to be cool and say nothing, no delation etc, but here, it's not honest people that you find out to be cheaters.

So the purpose of all that, to don't make the story well-known, is to don't kill your server.
The most important is that the story is not heard of by everyone or I hope your Admin has a lot of charism and say that he removed all traces of cheat from the cheaters and banned them all (and still no details to the curious crowd, and if they ask why, the GM got with the excuse that they don't want to make people tempted to make the same kind of things and that if people try it, they will be caught, now that they are aware how people do "those cheats" on the server).

And don't feel too bad for them, there is a lot of servers everywhere, even too much, and they didn't get what they have until now in a fair way.

Edit : oh lol, I just realized there was your current server name in your profile x)
Good luck :3
Well it's not a little server, which I was worried about, but still^^"

Edit 2 : if it was real friends, I guess you wouldn't even think about saying it. Friendship is more important than a server and it's balance.

Personally, I don't think you're being unethical. It's not easy to report someone you know, much less a friend. If the GMs punish those who don't report any wrongdoing though, I guess you might be in some trouble if someone else reports it and they find out you knew and hid stuff.

I'd report it either way (I have done so in the past, on the server I play). Cheating is petty, takes the fun out of the game and effectively helps kill a server, just like Jessie mentioned.

Those mods are common nowadays and most pvp players are using them. Many servers allow it, you should check on that first..

If they are your friends, why would you even ask this? It's not like they're hurting anyone, so reporting it would just be petty betrayal.

If you are concernced about the health of the server, well.. any decent server should have already blocked nodelay and maya p. hack. The rest should be allowed and supported to make it fair for everyone, because you can't effectively block it. Tools are so widespread that anything else would be unreasonable. An exception to that would be client edits to let you aim a certain class more easily, but I don't think I've ever encountered it.

He said it wasn't his friends x) Just people he knows.

What is Maya-Purple hack btw? I hear often talk about cheat but not this one and I feel like I shoud be aware of it x)

AnimaRagnarokOnline

Maya purple effect even without Maya purple card.

Meaning you see what can not be seen LOL

Jessie Rocket

Well, just need some Box of Sunlight, are people really that lazy to cheat on that? x)
It's not like if we could only do that with Maya Purple card /hmm

generally my strategy revolves on passively making fun of them for sucking so bad they need to cheat, but i wouldn't report them

...

there's an option to make that not work in the config files of hercules

Nekoruchii

EstlandRO's focus is somewhat on PvE/WoE/BG, check first if the server allows such, if they don't allow it, then report it.

Sevarin

Guess, i won't but you can tell him not to do bad things since you both are friends.
