Maybe? I'm not sure or don't really care. I'd play on a server either way

Removing idle-leeching altogether would be tough. Ideally, it would be great if party play was encouraged since that's supposedly the essence of MMOs.

However there's that fact that there are so many solo players now that will have a hard time if this happens and not every community is as helpful as one may hope for it to be / people have just gotten used to leeching after a first character is created. Many solo players in an MMO? Yeah, ridiculous. Unfortunately, it's a fact.

When it comes to RO, I believe there is nothing that can't be done. But I do agree with you as a solo player myself, I'm used to leeching myself in all the private servers that allowed multi-clients. I was looking for feedback on this here because I personally disagree with prevention of idle-leeching but someone else thought otherwise. I know it has more or less become a trend for people to only party till their first char is leveled up and then they go about leeching without caring to party anymore. But there were other concerns like friends getting leeched or someone trying to help a newbie by leeching them.

Every MMO only allows the use of one client per system to encourage team play in online games and yet there are always solo players, so why should RO be any different? Official RO servers don't seem to care enough to prevent multi-client abuse and almost every private RO server encourage the use of it since they can't prevent it by themselves. So in the end we figured it would be a better choice to prevent self-leeching and not idle-leeching, not just because it is the intended game design but also to encourage party leveling.

>_< It's weird to see arguments saying people should party because it's an mmo... Even if this is a multi-player game, it's STILL a game and games should be fun... If it's more fun for some people to solo, than so be it.  Personally, I've always soloed in every. single. game.  Of course there were a few exceptions--like when I got a boyfriend, when I made friends or my friends joined, or when the game forced me to or else--but other than that, there are a super lot of people who enjoy soloing.  In fact, when a game forces you to party with people, it just drives you away...

Solo players like to play mmos, too and a lot actually do like the multi-player aspect--just not for leveling.  Or if they do, they prefer it to be with friends and not total strangers.  A lot of games now like to force you to party and make you pug instances, etc., to even progress in the game.  And I think one of the appealing aspects about RO is that it doesn't and you can totally do a lot of things with just yourself or just friends.  I mean, sure, it might be longer in certain cases, but it's still doable.

I don't think that was exactly the direction you were going at, but hearing everyone's opinions on the matter made me think of it.  In regards to self leeching, that's something I've never personally done and even though I enjoy soloing and even though it would be much quicker for me to just self leech, I'd rather just focus on the more enjoyable aspects of the game.  It'll take longer, but you don't have to always rush things.  It also feels kind of weird to see people self leeching, too... Ten people on the map?  Ooh, nope--it's all the same person leeching themselves!  How strange... >_<

But I do think that leeching should be okay for your friends.  If someone is kind enough to help you or if you want to help them in return, I don't see the problem.  I mean, as a creo, your homunc pretty much leeches you, too, right?  And you're not totally afk forever, either.  I don't see the problem with that at all. o-o;
