Where's the help? Can't find some information...
« on: Jan 16, 2007, 10:02 AM »
I don't mean the help on how to use the forums. What I mean is...

1. Is there no connection between my account here in the forums and my user/server-admin account at ratemyserver?
I've been looking for this for a while, and I can't find any information anywhere of how it's set up. I used the same username both on the forums and the site, but how do you know it's really the same person and not someone else trying to pass up as an impostor?

2. How do you give someone "permission to post about your server"?
I came to check these forums because someone told me of a certain post that some dude made. Well, I really don't know who that person is, but I don't see why I wouldn't give him permission to post that. Now, assuming we ever get past question 1, and I am really the owner of the server in question, how do I give someone permission to post about the server? I have searched low and high around these boards and I have found nothing. I hope they just don't have to write down "PS: oh, and I had permission from the owner to advertise the server like this".

I must be missing something... because noone else seemed to have the questions I do... and I've been looking around and been unable to find anything about it so far...

EDIT: There should probably be a link back to the main-site somewhere on these forums.. as it is, I have to go modify the url to go back to the main page :x

There used to be a link right back to RMS from the forums, right on that bar with Home, Help, Arcade, etc.  It went away when they restructured the forum software, but I'm sure they can get it back up, now that it's brought to their attention!

1. no, the accounts are unrelated, because integration to both systems would take alot of time, i thought about that but i rather do something more informative.  As for imposter, if you private message me (in the forum) a request about something with your site account, i will definitely check if your email and the email related to the site account see if they match before doing anything.  If they not, I will still ask you to send me the request with the site user's registered email.

2. "permission to post about your server" usually i dont find a reason to this, i am thinking the way the post was made was not from the owner's point of view (too hard-sell i would say...doesn't look like usual advertisement) the details I think I will leave it to Riotblade to answer.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with this, the post didn't follow the guidelines at all :/.

Well, I can grant that the way that was said, it seems better fitted for the server discussion sub-forum than the advertising one (wonder if it would be possible to move and unlock it then? Or just ask whoever wrote that to write it again on the right sub-forum?)

But it doesn't hurts to ask anyway, since there's these rules around, but there's no clear indication anywhere of how exactly you are supposed to follow them.

The reason I closed it was because the user lacked some information from the stickied topic found:

Here

The reason why I told him to get permission from the server's owner was because I wasnt sure if the post was a mockery against the server itself.  While I was reading it, the feeling of the post forked two ways.  One being the user liked the server a lot and the second being the user is writing in a sarcastic tone.  Maybe it was just the way I read things.
