My bad if this was suggested before, I looked for something similar and saw that it was posted in August 2010, so...

Anyway, I was browsing random servers on RMS, and some of em had cool promotional videos on their front page (hosted on youtube), and so the thought occured to me: "Hey, RMS shows screenshots from servers, but what if it had some room for youtube links the same way it does screenshots?"

It's a random thought, but I think it'd be cool to see videos that people make. It'd really show which servers were putting effort into it, and those hidden gems no one notices/gives a chance.

This one is something I considered and still considering.  It is good if people do utilize it, but there are way more made-in-5-min servers from my observations.  Almost everyday there are listings posted with 5 broken links from 1xbanner + 4xscreenshots because people put the server url or non-image links  in the boxes for some reason.  So I am not in hurry to implement something like that.  Like you said it is a good additional option, but I expect the usage will be low if not wrong.

For those 5 minute servers with the 5 broken links, couldn't you add a check to see if it's a .png, .bmp, etc...? It sorta stops that problem, and people have to make slightly more effort to screw it up.

And yeah, I suppose the usage will be relatively low, but it also separates those servers that are putting major effort into it from those that aren't. I kinda figured it would be like an alternative to the screenshots (still have 5 screenshot slots, now they're just screenshot/youtube video slots, or just make one of them a video slot).

It's not as simple as that, there are servers that give a .php or some other directory link that will output a random image on web request.  They can do a lot of things on their end not just limited to image extensions.  We don't accept upload file so they have the freedom as long as the img tag understands.

Or, you can add another possible link option under "How to Register?" link on each RMS page--this is optional for server owners (so if there is no video link, this extra section will not show up on the viewing page).
If players are really not that lazy and want to look at videos, then they can click on that link which leads them to wherever the video is hosted. After all, the website links above are considered in the same sense. It's up to the players if they want to click on a link or not. Broken links in those sections aren't as bad as broken images on the RMS pages.

Furthermore, servers can just post videos on their main website... or make a splash page with an embedded video lol. But the extra link section could be a possible alternative?

I think giving server owners more RMS freedom to fully promote there server and what they are about as a community is a great idea prehaps it would entice more players who are too lazy to click the link and checkout the website, first impressions carry alot of weight with me and i mean if i saw a professionally done youtube video that gave a full discription of the server in its entirety on the RMS page i would be more inclined for said server

On the other hand i read something in this thread about people not being able to do it correctly?? i don't see how having a broken link would be such a big deal, just dont deprive the competent server owners from doing everything they possible can to help there community grow.

To be honest, I'm actually working on a new server (modification project) myself, and we've done some pretty crazy stuff with it that I'm proud of, and would like to show off through videos to show players that we know what we're doing.

What DigitalMayhem said, giving a good first impression is definitely a must for servers. And to reiterate my previous point, it would definitely set apart the servers that know what they're doing from those 5-min servers.

Shameless plug (not sure if against some rule, so in spoiler):
