Super High Rate Economy Ratings
« on: Jul 20, 2007, 09:20 pm »
Should people be reminded that Super High Rate servers obviously don't have the average stability of 1/1/1 servers and should economy count less towards a Super High Rate server's overall rating than if it were a low rate server?  It's a given that people who want "Super High" rates wouldn't want to spend long periods of time to save up money for healing items and such just to train their characters.  Would it make more sense to substitute or weigh some ratings depending on a server rate type?

i would say no in a programmer point of view ... we have ... already reviews on people rating on those super high rate with the current eco/statibility etc ... if we change the display it will become a mess and keeping track of new and old might be another mess ... unless we have a wipe ... doh!

i dont know what i am saying cuz it's 4:30 in the morning lol hope u get the idea ...

Why would super high rates get special treatment only because they have bad economy in general? Of course economy should matter as much on their score as on everyone else's.

Remember, the listings go by Base EXP.  They can have high base exp but low drop rates.

Well we do have lower drop rates than most Super High Rates.  It still can't counter the fact that players can level up to 999 and kill MvP's, even if they are 10x stronger than normal and their card drop is only 5%.  But if Super High Rate servers choose to use 100% drop rate, how is their economy getting perfect scores?  Obviously they're not rating it on the same scale as they would a low rate server with original 1x rates.  People don't join Super High Rate servers expecting 1x drop rates, you'd get flamed to death "OMG WTF MAKE DROP RATE HIGHER IDIOT!!".  Maybe not make a whole new rating setup, but maybe just a reminder or some sort.  I'm not sure you can call 100% drop rate a "balanced economy", but hopefully 500x would be rated decently for a Super High Rate.

Super High Rate Servers are a lot harder to balance properly.  You wouldn't understand if you never made a decently balanced one.  You nearly have to start over with all the skill delays/cool downs, cards, and monsters.  It's a lot more work than people want to give credit for because more than half the super high rate servers don't bother to do any work beyond just changing rates and levels.  I bet you've never even played a super high rate, much less made one with a decent balance.  Low rates have everything set to default values.  It takes no effort to make a low rate server because you don't have to do much customization or any for it to work so I don't know how you can talk bad about servers with a lot of customization.  Really, the most low rate server owners do is set WoE times and place a few pre-made NPC's.  Ooooo, so hard.  :-\

Try to stay on topic. Thanks.

Once again, I've yet to see a working argument as to why a server type that'll have bad economy in general should be able to bypass the economy score system. It's your choice, when deciding you want to create a high rate server, to create a server that'll most likely have a bad economy.

Everything is to be taken in context, really.  People who are looking at a high-rate server, and see drop rates higher than say, 100x, should expect that (unless the drop tables are customized/altered in some way) that things will be easier to come by via farming, and won't hold much ground in the marketplace.  It comes with the territory of being a high-rate server.

If you have a high-rate server with a fantastic quality, it will most likely be reflected in player reviews, or hell, even your advertising.  Jesus became famous by performing similar miracles.

(But in all seriousness, yeah.)

And whats this about stability?  Do you mean uptime vs. downtime?  In my humblest of opinions, if a server is crashing because the high rates are 'too much' for the hardware to handle, the owner either needs to upgrade or lower the rates.  High rates are not an excuse for not delivering the most basic of needs.  If i read the 'stability' part wrong, my apologies.
