RMS Review Character Limit

Why is the limit capped at 330? Why is this a significant number? Am I missing something? Is 30 yC's favorite number?

Seriously, though. This max character capacity is ridiculously small. I don't think there's been a single review that I've written that hasn't required me to cut down on proper grammar/punctuation, and even remove small, but important, chunks of my review to fit the limit. Why is 500 unreasonable?

Not really concerned whether or not this was ever brought up before, as I'm sure it was. A change would be nice.

That's a given. However, the reviews that appear on the main page and the main system are obviously the most important.

yes it was brought up before, the reason was anything more than that could potentially flammable.  Though anything is flammable in RMS ... we are hot lol jk.  If you look at the other reviews, many of them are one liner that look like spam and could potentially get deleted for not explaining the score given.  More thoughtful review deserve to go to the forum where it is more interactive.

I'm not really seeing any valid point in your response for why the limit is standing at 330. You countered your own points. If someone is going to make a review with the sole intent to flame, 330 characters is more than enough for that, and the review's going to get deleted anyway. Your statement about most reviews being "one liners" doesn't really shed any light on anything, it just means plenty of people don't quite know what a "review" is, or they're coaxed into reviewing by the server they're playing and don't really have a review to give, anyway.

A 500 character review doesn't really belong in the forums, as it's still relatively short. A 500 character review actually gives players a little more room for the space they actually need to really review the server, without removing some of the things they'd like to say, or without typing shorthand. It's not like every person is going to use the 500 limit, though. That's what makes it a good character limit. Those that don't know how to make a proper review will probably not even use 300, but those that do know how to review properly are always going to be hitting the 330 limit.

Again, I see no reason for the character limit to be sitting at 330. Obviously you realized 300 wasn't enough, but boosting it by only 30 characters? That's not going to help much of anything.

How about allowing direct links from a rating to RMS review forums? That way the (lazy) people don't need to copy/paste the address and they'll be brought directly to the linked detail review about a server with just a double click. Technically if I really want to write a lot about the server, even 500 characters wouldn't be enough to reflect about all 10 categories. That is what, just 50 characters for each category technically... You really can't say too much other than the usual "server is stable, not much lag, GM is online and friendly, economy is decent just need more population to grow for woe" or a variant type of comments unless the server really screw up.

There can be a separate field for a link that is outside of the 330 chars limit.  But I just never bothered to add that because the usage is very low.

How about we take a vote whether to increase, decrease, or leave the character limit?  I personally still think that the limit should be increased to avoid future troubles regarding about reviews being deleted.

Besides, if someone decides to type more words in the review that only bashes the server, it should be up to the server owner to report to you guys on RMS.  If they don't, then it should be their fault... So technically it saves you time and the effort of looking up every review.

500 char review, 500 char owner-reply is the case now.  Let me know if any error is spotted, I hope I didn't miss anything that need to be changed.

We'll see how that does, not seeing any new review much today.  Is it because I made the min char require to be 100 chars from 60?  Just doing that in terms of proportion 60/330 =~ 100/500.
