Database search suggestions
« on: Dec 21, 2010, 02:37 pm »
Right now I have to search for many item by ID (tens, maybe even hundred). That's why I have this suggesting: If in search field where only numbers, and search gived no result - perform search by ItemID. By doing so, search for regular users reamins the same, but for advanced users this will be very useful feature.

I think I know what you mean if you are talking about the top search bar.  But actually the search bar redirects the search to the advanced search form anyway.

If you enter only numbers and you did not select a type search it will search for the name only.  That is the problem here?

Hmm, second time I see this suggestion.  I'll give it a try ...

Let say, I make it when there is only number in the search box it will search the number in both name and id.  Because it's least efficient to search for one thing and then go back and search again when there is no result.

Try it on the site now?

Actually there are some cases where an item has a ID like # in it, for example if you search for 5500 you get the Nokia 5500 cell phone and the item with the ID 5500.

Could you maybe add another search box, so you could choose if you want to search by name or ID? If not, what you did is probably fine. If people do run into any oddities like #5500, they'll eventually figure out the Nokia 5500 is not the item(droid) they're looking for.

EDIT: Never mind, didn't notice the drop down menu had what I said.

You seem kinda mad. Why are you mad? You seem really mad, but I'm not quite sure why. Could you explain your anger using logical means? What legitimate reason do you have for being mad?
