Adding additional server search features

When searching for servers far and wide across the rms-specter of horrible and not-so-horrible server I found it exceedingly annoying that the feature to seach by url is not there.

Considering there are half a metric ton of servers who ban themselves by not reading the ToS(The Ogre Sauna, completed works up to chapter 12 made by the author Mr.Biggles), and sign up again using a different server name and/or change something in their name but still have the same url so people come to their server.


Please add the feature of searching by url, seeing the option not being there adds great amounts of stress on my mouse, when it flings through the rooms at mach 3 due to my twichy hands.


It will also reduce the time looking up the servers that are already banned, since you don't have to play "guess their fancy name" or go on their ugly websites.

but .. banning server is my job?  Of course I have my ways to search for url.  To the general public search by URL isn't as useful.

Catalyst in your case how would it be useful to you?

Yes it's very useful for users, we see all the time now that servers get banned, put up a new name but the same url to their website.

If the url in the server page was added as a search it would save time overall, since there are several users on this forum who try and find servers that aren't so great and break the rules.

Meh i gotta agree with silver, it sounds like a great idea. It would be easier on the not so frequent RMS User To have that function so they know that they aren't going to a site that has already been banned numerous times.

But, on the other hand how would the not so frequent RMS user know what server has been banned before.

The only way this feature would be handy is if the user is a frequent rms user and knows who has been banned and the URL to their site. But still handy none the less.

If you remember the url you would just put it in the url box on the browser.

Anyway SilverStream~, remember I pmed you about not to act as a staff or on behalf of our staff in certain topics?  I have to remind you that again.  Banning server or looking for server to ban is not your job, you don't have to ask for a function to help you do this 'job' better.

I didn't say for me, I said for the others that search up and post reports of "this server was banned, but made a new listing right after".  Go look, I haven't posted one at all.


Adding the fact that this is overall a useful feature which is easy to add, and what I'm seeing atm from you yC, is that whatever I try to suggest which is actually good, you shoot it down by saying "dont act like staff silver".
I take offense by that, I'm not trying to act like staff.  I'm saying that this feature is smart and useful for the users of this forum.  You don't have to remind me of anything.  Go do your bannings, we just want to search by url as well.

It's a great day when suggestions are deemed as "acting like staff".

Regardless i like the suggestion and would like to see it added to RMS, Regardless if Silverstream made the suggestion or someone else did It should still be considered since it is a useful suggestion.


Lemme ask this though yC, If i had made this suggestion would you have deemed the thread as a "Acting like staff" Thread or would you have found another reason to turn down the suggestion?

The reason the OP given to support the usefulness for this suggestion is to help make it easier to look for server to ban.  I see no reason to implement it after roughly judging by the cost-effectiveness of implementing the function.  That is unnecessary and unimportant to the general users.  It is best for me to work on something that is going to benefit more people such as the amount-of-custom measure and the overpower-donation measure that were suggested a long time ago yet I haven't find the time to plan and implement them.

There are of course suggestions that got implemented, I do not understand what you are talking about Hutchy.

Ok, so RMS Gets alot of money for the vote banners and links on their site. I know the webhosting CANT cost that much considering you can get unlimited Transfer + Unlimited Disk For like 20$/month. So why not invest some of the money your getting on for the votes into something for the RMS Users? (Not Saying you Don't) But, i highly doubt half the s*** you implement costs you anything.

The cost is the time I invest into implementing suggestion.  The effect is that only a handful of people are going to use the function because they want to look for server to ban.   It's not a suggestion that I would consider because of the reason stated twice up there.  Which part do you not understand?  I am not even talking about money.

Lost~Dream I didn't know you are so naive.  Unlimited Transfer + Unlimited Disk For like 20$/month means nothing.  Try use even half of the "unlimited" and you will be suspended from the host for abuse or asked to leave nicely or asked to lower your usage before they force you to upgrade to a vps or dedicated server.  Since you seems not to notice, please read the ToS and AUP when signing up for shared hosting to protect your interest.  They always have a phase to protect themselves, either by limiting your cpu usage or memory usage or both. 

To tell you a bit of history, RMS grown out of a shared hosting plan after running for a year or a little longer.  I been through all that account put on hold due to usage, asked to upgrade, etc EVEN for hosting the images (item/mob/map) on a shared hosting plan lol.  The amount of hits on the images can easily bring down a apache server in a shared hosting environment.

Well yC I would like to counter that and call your donkey naive. Considering the fact i can name over 20 Webhosting companies that will give you Unlimited Disk & traffic For 20$- per month and you can use as much as you want. I offer unlimited Traffic but do you think my ToS Says  "Hey if you use more than so and so usage your s*** getting deleted". No it doesn't. So you need to get your facts straight before you run up on someone elses case and you don't even know what your talking about. If you would bother to read a ToS Fully you would realize not every company is as retarded as you are and you make them out to be.
