Hi there. I posted a review in the small box summing up LegendRO's performance, but I don't think it comes off quite how I want it to... First of all, let me first apologize, because in no way am I able to fully explain my review without giving personal experiences and examples without sounding like some idiot spouting off nonsense.

I played LegendRO for approximately 4 years, and in the beginning I really did enjoy the server. The staff WAS active, they knew what was what in terms of RO, and you could tell they at least took SOME interest in doing their jobs. The updates were consistently important gameplay updates and bugs would go a max of a week before being fixed. This all changed overtime, and now the staff does not do the jobs they were put there for... The staff nowadays has been poorly chosen. They've picked up people who have, frankly, no idea what they're doing. You've got one GM who even tells people not to bragi in town because it messes up NPC coding (It's okay to laugh if you want). It's really upsetting, coming from someone who enjoyed the server so much in my earlier days, watching the server deteriorate to what it is now.

The person running the server (CuteBoi) is a joke. He's been trying to pull together some ridiculous online game using the RO client and donor money to fund it, but of course has gotten nowhere over the course of 4 years other than sketch art, a lot of talk, and a beta video of a log-in screen. I guess I really have no right to complain since he's been around for the whole time and he's always been a problem, but no one really talks much about him in their reviews so I figure that he deserves his own paragraph. I had a lot of friends on staff who complained that he was HORRIBLE to work with if you didn't agree with him 100% of the time (which no sane person would or should) and he was even uncovered @iteming for a buddy of his in real life. In fact, a friend of mine had posted logs of a chat between him and an ex-staff member basically proving the previous statement, and in turn was banned, along with anyone else that even brought up the subject matter. (He banned me over being related, but I had already stopped playing this server a few months beforehand and had only posted topics over how to improve forums/in-game for anyone who was joining.) To give you an idea of his RO knowledge this guy's idea of class balance is giving Swordsman classes carts on his own personal test server. Overall very frustrating to even make a point to him without him making you feel like total crap.

To touch on a few other points the server is hardly ever down and there isn't really a lag problem, though most people from out of the US/Canada seem to complain that there is lag. (I personally cannot speak about this as I do not live outside of the US/Canada.) The community in-game is not very friendly and neither are the forum-goers. I tried my best to be friendly and helpful to newer players and even made a full video guide to try and help newer players out and also promote the server, but also often found myself arguing with really rude and arrogant players who provoked me into arguments 99% of the time (everyone has their moments). The playerbase is poor quality nowadays, the class balance is donkey-backwards (guilds made up of 7-8 champs, maybe 1 or 2 profs but they're likely bolters, etc), many people in the community find pleasure in advising on classes they've never even touched before. Some of the in-game GMs are friendly if you stay on their good side (a lot show very rude sides as well, but there isn't really any case of power abuse outside of the admin circle), but a little bit slow and don't really know anything about RO. They're hardly ever available and they're hard to find unless you know where to find them specifically, there's no command to contact any GMs (which makes a lot of things inconvenient), and when it comes to anything that would require an RO savvy answer the GMs cannot help you with it. The economy is EXTREMELY inflated, the guilds rely on full alliances to hold a castle against soloers/small guilds, and overall I'd say that if you're new you're probably better off finding a more "newb friendly" server.

A lot of the people who tried their hardest to improve the server were often shunned by staff, and some even banned for being too critical of the staff. A lot simply gave up and stopped trying and the overwhelming opinion became the asskissers who nowadays run the staff. Now there's really nothing left in-terms of a forums community, because it's run by people who take their job WAY too seriously and close any sort of interesting or controversial topic. The only fun to be had is in-game, but that's even in sparing doses. The economy is inflated and not newb friendly, the players in-game often ignore and even ridicule requests for buffs/heals (for me, this is really upsetting to watch), the guilds are very critical on newer players (even though they're really not any better themselves) and overall the in-game experience lacks what other modern low rates have to offer. I personally tried to have a lot of these implemented (more custom dyes for ALL classes, less restricted zoom, balanced donor items, better WOE experience) but it went ignored by the admins because "that's how they roll". I suppose to some this may sound like a personal vendetta, but believe me, anyone who has been a victim of this system (which is pretty much anyone with an opinion) can agree and probably even expand even more on this post. With that, I would love to hear a response from anyone else who played this server, including the admins themselves.

I myself have played the server two and a half years before becoming inactive.  I float on their forums to help people where I can, or to comment on suggestions, but what Zoma says pretty much rings true.  The best response you can get out of the admins is apathy, but they've been more known to lately belittle people who don't kiss up. 

I had donated to the server a good sum, I can't say it was entirely selfless, as they had set up powerful items only accessible by the donor shops, items such as enriched ores, +10 stat foods, giant flywings and such.  When they implemented these items in the donor shops, there was an outcry from the more serious player community whom was concerned about the effects on the server's metagame.  But there was apathy, and no discussion from the admins, and slowly the server's balance started to break from these items originating from the donor shops.  Powerful endgame equipment became more commonplace, and you had to buy into the system whether with ridiculous amounts of Zeny or $USD (market is inflated), or simply you wouldn't keep up.  The further result to this, was a great flow of Donor money to the server, and people got really curious, we wanted to know just how much the server was making from these bad decisions.  We suggested a few times to show how much money was made, eventually one of the nicer GM/Admins of the time decided to go along with it and take it into her hands (she has since left the server) however the information was only provided to people who had already donated.  There was so much money flowing in, that the server far surpassed their expensive hosting and advertising service needs, and for a while it seemed like nothing was being done with the extra money, which began to look really suspicious.  I personally suggested putting the money to use, whether it being hiring more active coders to update the server more frequently, or an upgrade in hardware, or anything useful really.  They eventually agreed to upgrade their hardware, but it didn't fix a lot of the issues with the client.  And unlike Zoma's experience, from multiple locations I experienced small amounts of lag, that would amplify randomly during information-heavy sessions (WoE or MVPing), which would cause lag spikes.  It was eventually revealed by the most active coder for the server (at the time but he stepped down from his position) that the client is clogged with ineffective security coding, but the head admin refused to allow anyone but himself and one other inactive admin direct access to the code.  Therefore things were not fixed.  It was later revealed that the admins were pocketing a good sum of donor money, to which they freely admitted.

WoE in the server's better time (over a year ago) was filled with active, dedicated, competitive players, and the server would have in excess of a thousand players on for WoE.  However, there were flaws in the system, slowly being revealed by debate and suggestions on the forums.  Yet, as per usual, the admins paid no attention to the forum, and let WoE slowly become unpopular and fall apart, or implementing fixes when they were too late or no longer relevant.  The WoE population steadily declined, until last I checked, there were maybe 200-250 people WoEing in this worsened state of the server.  The competition has become bad enough to praise the stopping of solo's, and act like bullies on the forums, as if they were something impressive.  Most of the better players saw the developing flaws in the server and left for other low rates.

There was a major duping incident that involved pouring billions of zeny into the server's market.  People started speculating about the random inflation of common cards and equipment on the forums, and as time pressed on people got more curious and looked into it.  They found a few new players, stacked with all +9 gear and generally impressive gear, and they paid no heed to market prices which is why inflation happened.  The dupers were freely duping zeny for a good 2-3 weeks before there was any comment from administration.  They said they would look into it, but by that time it was too late.  The dupers had traded and dealt so many people fake zeny that it spread to the entire economy of the server.  But a few players complained loudly, voicing not to have a rollback, without realizing what alternative solutions were.  It was speculated upwards of a hundred players were banned.  This number included the small group of dupers, and anyone they directly traded with, and all of the innocent people banned in the situation were told that they "should have known better, and reported suspicious activity" when the admins made no announcements or mention of the incident.  They assumed players would in favor of the server, reject a deal which they didn't realize was with a duper; most merely thought that they were getting a price that anyone would agree with and the result was being banned.

After that incident, a lot of the more prominent forum posters commented in outcry of such injustice in handling such a tricky incident with a blanket ban.  It was unfair, but the admins continued remaining apathetic and inactive.  With time, the forum posters and players who honestly cared for the server, looked out for the players, and suggested helpful things to the server became disinterested in the lack of effort from administration, and thus seeing the direction the server was heading, left.  Some of us remained to continue to question the efforts of the admins despite our inactive state.  Lately, the admins have shown pleasure in strictly enforcing rules, several players have been banned for merely 'speaking out' and when other's complained about the unfair treatment, the admins turned their oppressive attention to them.  Their solution was to silence the community, lots of posting suspensions and bans have been casually handed out lately.  I can honestly say, that's the only thing they've done effectively for the past half year.

Now, not to degrade the sense of the server, it was once a place I called, and loved as a home.  The community was something to cherish once, there was a definite culture of older players, and a lot of them would welcome newer players into their circles.  WoE was once fun and competitive.  The server was once worth investing time into.  But lately, those who run the server had only made the RO experience increasingly unpleasant until the point where I and others felt it was necessary to comment and to warn others.  This is no longer a place  I would recommend to any friend.  As my last dedication to the server, as my suggestions were ignored, and newer players stopped asking for help on the forums, I choose to donate the entirety of my in-game net worth, essentially all of my useful gear and zeny, to a GM Event Fund.  Yet, in spite of everything I've tried doing for the server, I'm still looked down upon from the administration, apparently my efforts and donations mean nothing to them as I am in disagreement with how they handle the server.

There is a real story of humanity hidden in LegendRO's existence.  The treatment the server has provided has spawned two other low-rate RO servers (in the form of a few key players leaving LLRO, and deciding to host their own server), and one is quite successful now with a large community.  I mourn the crumbling slow inactive death of LLRO.  I advise against joining them.  The economy is inflated, the class balance is broken with endgame equipment, the guild competition is laughable, the GMs are mostly inactive, and admins are apathetic.  I see no reason for any player to put up with that.

As requested by users, I will be adding a review based on my experiences both as a player and as former administrator of LegendRO.

My 5 year history on the server had started off pretty rough, being new to RO as a whole and as a serious online gamer; however, the community was very helpful and cooperative. I'm not talking about free zeny and items, but more along the lines of team gameplay in dungeons, advice on class knowledge, and tactical benefits behind classes of choice for the time: SinX, Lord Knight, and High Wizard respectively. Guild competition was fierce, but at the same time it was more or less the spirit of competition that drove all of us to get better and learn to work better as a team.

This was short-lived spanning out to around the end of 2006, and thus the last real year of competitive and cooperative gameplay. GMs at the time were found often times abusing power to some extent, but punished rather quickly. The active staff soon became more and more inactive and some of the more respectable GMs left for reasons I will not disclose. Player population was still increasing for a very short while after this point, but the skill level overall was slowly beginning to fall and class balance began to shift with the poorly timed release of new, more innovative items. By the end of 2007, player population had capped at a successful 800-900 or more outside of WoE times.

Unfortunately, 2007 was also the year that the server began to show signs of a death-spiral. Unfair and advantageous donor items were being introduced, updates began to shift towards donor-specific benefits, and bug-fixes/suggestions were left untouched for weeks at a time, often going out to 1 year before being addressed by administration in charge of implementing them. My experience with coding and server balance had granted me a job offer from CuTeBoi, the owner, for developing the server. At that time, I had declined the offer due to the stead-fast decline of interest in the server among all players, myself included.

By mid 2008, I decided to take up CuTeBoi's offer and became a core developer, starting off with a complete remodel of the server code. Two months later, the new system software was put live and many past players who had quit had started to play again with the 'revitalized' feel of the server. My work had also transformed the staff policies slightly, promoting equality amongst all players instead of one specific group. Most staff took me seriously and respected my decisions, but CuTeBoi took offense to much of my work. His attitude toward me, as well as all other staff members, began to grow sour and distasteful, often calling dedicated and loyal staff "useless."

Donation funds have been widely abused, but I can only attest to those months that I had been within the loop of staff. Server housing of 5 high-end towers, insurance, and a high-grade dedicated internet line was running just under $1500, with miscellaneous additional expenses ranging between $100-$2400: expenses the server was not receiving through donations. More advantageous and ridiculous donor-only items were introduced to "boost donations" such as the ability to buy zeny, Enriched ores, boxes of +10 stat foods, and other assorted items. Naturally, this did boost donations to a point where we were getting close to $10k+ per month. Much of this excess, however, seemed to disappear on a monthly basis without a trace, even with one of our most trusted staff members (Snarfy) being given the opportunity to oversee server spending through a special form setup by CuTeBoi that tracked incoming donations verified by paypal.

After ~3 months of funds going missing and many respected staff being called "useless" by CuTeBoi, 80% of us resigned our positions entirely. Of those who left, more than half of us had started at about the same time, becoming close friends. Even now, more good staff has started to fall off seeing how poorly everyone is treated. We were all easily replaced with lack-luster GMs, with the exception of Foolishbob (good friend of CuTeBoi). Population dropped by at least 200 players in no more than 7 days, putting it down to only 200-300 sessions online (to include venders and autotraders that make up ~130 players). Some of those leaving began their own servers, one of which has been quite successful. The mere thought of these servers becoming successful has driven some conversation of cyber-attacks by CuTeBoi, as exposed by a leaked staff room log of the conversation where at least 4 other staff members took part and supported these attacks.

There are many more details that I would love to go through, but most of it is irrelevant or personal experience that other players may not have experienced yet. So many good people fought for the server to make it better and get it out of its constant decline, many of whom have or will be posting here to share their own experiences. I must say that all current posts are legitimate, as those who have posted already are some who fought so hard to the point of being banned for criticizing the staff and server too much to save the server we once called home. We have been gifted with so many good memories that all of us will remember for the rest of our lives, and it is a shame that a server with such historical significance to us has turned into something despisable.

I do not recommend this server to anyone of any skill level, as you too will quickly find just how valid these posts are.

Hi, I'm yet another Ex-LLRO player.

I played from between May 15, 2005, until approximately August/September of 2008.

Much of what has been said in the above posts is 100% accurate.  Speaking as a player whom played RO quite seriously over the span of my 3 years on this server, I can vouch for a majority of what has been said, as I personally involved myself in WoE quite seriously, and became a serious MVPer/PVEr in my days of playing on LegendRO.

Overall, long story short, LLRO started out with a lot of potential back on mid/late 2004 after it's merge with HORO.  However, once the server neared into it's 2006/2007 Era, quality of the server diminished as the head admin started consuming a majority of donor funds under the table (in which I have logs for if necessary to defend my claim, given to me by retired GMs of LLRO that were, at the time, in the Staff IRC Channel discussing said matters), and not updating the server at all, except for Zoma's aforementioned side project utilizing some of the RO Client to make a custom 'game', which never got any farther than a login screen.

The server then implemented donations provided for Zeny in mid/late 07.  In the process, billions of zeny flooded the server, ruining the economy miserably, as donors had the ability of making millions of zeny for a relatively cheap price.  (Out of a cumulative 80billion zeny economy with 400 people online, the donation rates were 1$=1mil).  At one point during the Donations for Zeny events, Tony (CuteBoi), the 'head' admin, used a double-donation event, giving people double the zeny/reward for donating, thus meaning 1$=2mil, only further killing the economy.

Needless to say, towards the end of this event, 8 months later, some people had begun using WPE to dupe zeny/items using the kafra lag (due to bad placement of the kafra_storage outside of the mapserver host) to dupe billions of zeny/items (including donor items).  One of the staffmembers (Xylyl) pointed out that the duping had been going on as he had found over 10000 OCAs on a single player's kafra, and the staff merely dismissed him; or wait, only Tony (CuteBoi) did.  2 weeks later they ended up taking the server down and banning ANYONE whom had traded with any of the dupers, whether conscious or not of them.  This then killed at least 200+ People off of the server, mostly higher-up tier/playing players with better MVP/Miniboss gears, thus only taking the WoE from dismal to just plain bad.

Overall, during this span of 8 months, approximately $40,000 was generated via donations (more was actually generated, but deducting approximate server costs of 1500$ a month), in which has gone missing to this day.  However, during analysis of the staff logs, I came to find out a majority of the 40k was spent on paying staff (all of whom did little or were very uneducated in RO architecture/metagame aspects), or paying child support for the head admin, or just paying for trivial nonsense.  Overall, 40 thousand dollars has gone missing, and now the staff claims to be 'short' of money to cover server costs, and has one again sped up their ad campaign.  When I posted the IRC logs, I was banned (along with all relateds n_n) to try and cover up the stolen money, in the staff's attempt at an iron-fist censorship.

Overall, anything that was good about this server is gone, and it's no longer worth playing anymore, thus why I decided to quit and retire my 3 1/2 years of hard work and high-tier gears in order to help create my own server with some friends to fix that which LLRO has failed so miserably at.  If you are looking for a lowrate server with competition, a friendly environment, and an active staff, this isn't the place for you, much like have been agreed with on the previous comments and posts here.

Also, if any LLRO staffmember (which I doubt will come here, as Zoma has posted a link to this thread on their forums, and I expect him to be banned again) would like to speak up in their own defense, I humbly request that they do here, as I can substantiate my/any other poster's claims by posting IRC logs, chat logs, Screenshots of said abuse, etc.

EDIT: One last note, for one thing I am glad for....  LLRO's failures have caused the creation of 2 great lowrate servers as well, so they haven't done everything wrong.  JusticeRO and EternityRO, both servers are backed by one or more ex-LLRO players whom got sick of the lack of updates and efforts put forth by the staff and have gone out of their way to make their own servers.

First let's actually analyze the points given by the previous poster.

He tells us that no one wants to read their sob stories, and that it's too long. His second point questioned what they were trying to prove.

To rebut the first point, it's their opinion to say what they like about LLRO, freedom of speech is a right supported by liberal democracies. Yours however, is a clear abuse of that given right. Conceded yes you do have your own opinion, your opinions have a direct bias to that against jRO. Let's look at the previous review of said server. You gave 1's to all categories, wherein some category's deserve otherwise, another member even support that it was really a stupid review, clearly brought up by your 'sub-par' review abilities.

Second point to rebut, you tell us that we shouldn't waste our time telling other people that LLRO isn't worth it, however, you're an obvious hippocrit in thinking that you can get away with the same thing, proving that jRO isn't worth their time. Don't go around preaching what you honestly don't do.

Conceded yes every does deserve a right to put time and effort into anything, there is a motive here. People give opinions, emphasize OPINIONS on nearly everything. You don't see a reason to defend it since you're too busy slandering jRO's name for no apparent reason.

For your information, people do change their minds about a server, especially when a well written review like this comes out. Don't assume that everyone who wants to try out LLRO is a fan-boy such as yourself.

Lastly, yes they did like LLRO, yes they are reviewing it from their past experiences, does that mean that they don't have a right to tell people about it? No, you sir are not god, you cannot tell these people to shut up. Nor can you prevent them from acting like drama queens. In fact, you yourself are one.

I myself am writing what I feel like writing to prevent other players from being coerced into a bad server, and investing all their time and energy into a server that's not rewarding, and ends up screwing both legitimate players and donators altogether by stealing thousands of dollars from donor money, and then blatantly lying about it publically, meanwhile while talking bad about donors, and inventing further schemes of increasing incoming money by milking donors for more of a personal profit.

This is not the LLRO forums, and thus your opinions of what we say stands for nothing here, where opinions about a server are openly heard and listened to.  What I say about LLRO is what I wish/want to say, and I can say it here without any of your nonsense and criticism, as my opinion is free here, much unlike the LLRO forums, where moderation and censorship is a centerpiece for LLRO's nonsense.

If you don't like my comments, leave my thread or show proof of otherwise.  If not, you don't belong here, and leave my review/opinion on it's own.

It seems to me that this server, like many others, were blooming fast with popularity. Took a few wrong turns, bad management and a Root Admin who apparently is divorced [WHAT A TWIST]!

As someone once told me: All good things must come to an end and this is a clear example. While I am impressed with DarkPoet's background (or the small mentions name within). I don't quite understand why everyone posted a similar story with slightly different lights shown, are you meant to convince the already skeptical community of RMS? In any case, there isn't much to be said, greed took over and a lot of bad choices were made, but somehow keep the server alive and gasping for air/ players. I love how the gimmick of cash works in many servers, that once you keep donating, you must one-up someone everytime when new, better gear arrive monthly. The race to be up-to-date with the greatest things otherwise you'd be slipping into the mediocre stages of commonness is a quick-gimmick for any server, but somehow... reliable for constant or somewhat consistent donations/ funds. As usual, communication lacks between the players and the administrators, the feeling that they are not obligated to justify themselves [depending on the context], etc. etc.

It appears to me they lost some key-valued players as reading above [quite a thorough review/in-depth look of LegendRO], but I remain unsurprised as most servers do this sort of thing (rebirth anyone)?

P.s I wouldn't mind the chat log, it's a nasty vicious circle and naturally I'd be sucking up to my admin if I wanted to keep my position [and self-esteem], naturally this "cuteboi" feels egged on to continue plotting by his staff and naturally keeps talking, inching his way towards corrupting another competing server. It's all a self-esteem boost circle that really has no end.

Did he ever touch your server yet? Because to be honest, I'm assuming he never fully bombarded your server, but only tested the waters and come out like a king. Classy.

As a note, upon receiving said log from their IRC room, we contacted our provider and the local FBI Cybercrimes division and notified them on a possible cyberattack/DDOS attempt on our server/network.

This topic could be much suitable in another forum section. I think the picture here is that LLRO gave you a bad taste after so many faithful years and now you have this "amazing" server that is somehow the underdog or victim in attacks that never went through [or so assumed since you never answered my question]. I question the popularity of your server, but try the server advertisement/ seeking area to snag my interest to dig further.

In any case, Xxero sure seems pretty personally-aggravated over nothing ;x

I'm merely trying to make it aware of what this server/server's owners do to another server once they find there's competition, and to what level of corruption the staff on LLRO have gone to, and what lengths they'll go to to 'protect' themselves and the long-term abuse that's been witnessed by so many players over such a long time.

Frankly, I apologize if any of my posts seem to be advertising 'my' server, but I'd also like it realized that the LLRO staff, from above chat logs/descriptions, will do anything they can, legally or not, to censor 'their' players and make their server generally better than anyone elses.  Such a mindset is destructive, harmful, and a bad way to manage a server.

And no, they never did attempt any attack.  We merely prepared ourselves and made note to the server owners of LLRO that we had taken particular steps to avoid and counter such a issue, and if necessary, legal footing to pursue them when/if they decided to do so.

In my post I omitted all names of people and servers, except for Zoma, and LLRO.  Otherwise I used pronouns in place of everything.  I could link to key topics directly relevant to a lot of the incidents we mention if needed, but in my case, my mention of JusticeRO and EternityRO was barely even a sentence long side note in my post.

The reason Xxero is probably aggravated is because the LLRO forums have slowed to a grinding halt, not unlike the population in game or the WoEs.  He's also probably in denial about being concerned for the server, and is looking for any means to justify his continued activity on the server.  The LLRO forums have mostly died; thus, there hasn't been much to talk about, and when we point out our frustrations, everyone takes it upon themselves to flame, because there are no other outlets, no guild drama, no bashing bad players (since so many are bad now) etc., and those whom are flaming are also the donkey-kissers, since most of the who would speak against them have left or otherwise been silenced.

The key administration of LegendRO has done awful things, and that's what the focus of this topic should be.

No, no. In my original reply, I clearly stated the whole intention of your topic, but you dug your own server within the review. The whole story seems rather bland and obvious of it's intention, but implies a bit more than what a review can "accept": "I got banned from a once good server, but turned to horrid spew. However, I have found this wonderful server that was once targeted out of jealousy or just hate from my previous admin of the server I was banned from."

There's a word I'm looking for, but can't find. In any case, even the small mention of JusticeRO within the review shines a hell lot because of the contrast of the long dwindling review of LLRO, so there is a lot of unintentional emphasis of how great JusticeRO is [especially in comparison to LLRO], might as multiply that effect by 3-4?

I didn't think they'd attack :3 Most people are all talk and no game, drumming up their staff for an attack purely for the adrenaline and showmanship of power. Haha, as said before: Classy.
