Hey there so I've been playing RO for a while and thought I'd write a couple of reviews on some servers I've played for a while.
The servers are Twinkle and Blackout
Twinkle
- a woe orientated server
Features:
There are lots of custom features, though not too many custom items. There are custom Battlegrounds but they are extremely frustrating. The people who go in there basically just want to get their badges and don't have a clue what they are doing. Sometimes I watch my own teams do ridiculous things. Such as one repeatedly watched the other team's leader attempting to e-call and do nothing about it and compared to other servers they just don't know what they are doing.
The drop rates are inconsistent. For instance, all regular cards drop at 20%, while other drops are not too high. This server is supposed to be one where everything is almost spoon fed to you, you just need to do a little work. You would think with card rates being so high, good items such as combat knife would drop a little easier. But no.
When I first joined I noticed how cramped up the main town was. It is a nice looking map but everything is insanely squashed together. It also didn't please me how much of a hassle it is to go to mall or vending areas. Instead of having @go commands for these areas, you have to walk onto a portal which takes you there, and then you can't leave simply by typing @return or @go, you have to click an npc which is set to "don't leave room" by default. Most of the time I go there to grab arrows or equipment, but it is not quick and you have to take your time with it.
Community:
The server seems populated but there's no one to talk to. Unless you are in a guild to hang out in a town there's no point being on this server. Yes it is a woe orientated server but at least there should be someone to talk to. Every player I have met on this server is either Brazilian or Pinoy and is hard to talk to. Perhaps that explains my BG problem.
The forum is a baron wasteland where the only forum where people chat is the guild one which is mainly just to flame other people.
Technical issues/Economy:
Okay now there was this bloody thing that annoyed the hell out of me. If you don't have the anti-shaker client installed, an extra "|00" prefix is added to other people's writing. E.g. "|00hey are you bro" "i'm fine" "|00ok cool what you been up to?". Really gets on your nerves after a while.
The only items worth selling are MvP drops. Their cards are useless because they are disabled in woe.
If you aren't interested in woe I probably wouldn't play this server, since woe is its only feature. If you are interested in woe, check the times. There are better woe servers out there but the times often conflict.
Blackout
- a once popular server
Features:
If you have played this server before you will know there are many customs - quests, items, equipment. What you may not know is the last time they released new custom anything was two years ago in 2009. Apparently they update once every so often. Why do I say this in such an odd way? Well when the updates finally come around, the staff simply just say there has been an update and don't include what was actually updated. FYI, the last update was June 14, and the last updated which they told you what happened was January 3.
Community:
Absolutely ****. This is by far the worst community I have ever seen. GMs don't talk to you they just sit in town playing around with their hats. All I have seen the lazy GMs do is ban people, and not even well. I have seen a ridiculous amount of random bans which they justify themselves by saying "Get over it" or something arrogant.
There is a suggestions forum where you can suggest things. Let me tell you, anyone who does this is wasting their time. Once there was a poll which won by a landslide, and nothing ever happened. Any time you make a suggestion you will either be trolled or told that it is terrible (even if it will help the server a great deal).
The server is also full of pinoys who are just plain arrogant and it made my time there unpleasant.
Technical Issues/Economy:
The economy really ****s you off here. I guess this one goes under community too. You work your donkey off to get an item, you sell it in the chat area for whatever price. Next minute that same person sets up a chat selling it for higher. No joke this happened to me once. I sold a pair of wings I worked my donkey off then this pinoy I sold it to literally opened a chat 3 cells away from me, SELLING IT FOR 100m HIGHER. Unbelievable. Other than that, the economy is actually pretty good, regarding items that are vended and such.
The server almost never goes down which may be due to the fact the server is only ever at half or less capacity. It can take 2000 players which it has not filled up for 1 and 1/2 years.
By far this server has the worst community I have ever seen. If it wasn't for the awful community and the lack of updates the server would be nice to play on.
