I will keep this as objective as humanly possible.
I was one of the first players in this server, I was even there on the server's opening day. I think the server had very big potential, especially on their voting system in the forums where players can vote for or against a proposed in-game modification. I enjoyed playing there for a while. I was even made a helper GM there, under the name GM Incinerate. I was tasked to do police work like enforcing the english-in-prontera-main-chat policy etc.
The server was officially opened on the first week of June, but in reality, it is still on beta test. The game had bugs, like stackable double casting for professors, server crashes rising from negative str input, etc. I felt then that it was understandable, as every server have their share of flaws.
I had passion for the game and believed in this server. Rules were enforced and anarchy was non-existent up to that point.
Then one day, a big wave of players came in, mostly a group that came from the Philippines' Valkyrie[official] server, and they named their woe Guild Outlaw. Im a filipino myself and I know that we have a talent for finding loopholes in systems. There was a rule that for purposes of minimising the monopoly of power, each guild can hold only up to 2 castles at a time.
The GM of the Outlaw guild [led by BabyMaker] easily captured 2 castles but still wanted more. What he did was to make another guild using his alt character [which he admitted publicly to be his] and took a castle. GM Rich [the owner/main admin] took the castle gave it back to the owners because according to him, this is a breach of rules and he jailed Babymaker for 1 day too. The wisdom behind this rule may be in question, but I am happy that rules are being enforced. You see, whether we like rules or not, its good to see that they get actually enforced so we can accordingly be guided as to how we should act or in this case, play.
Rich was doing a good job so far.
Then I helped the other guilds using my own resources[im just a level 40 GM so i dont have the capacity for abuse even if i wanted to] so that they can catch up.
Then came siege day. Rich recently rolled back the database because some archbishop and ranger skill kept making the server crash. He forgot to buff emperium HP just like how it was pre-rollback. We assaulted Guild Morbid Castle only to be dissappointed because the emp was broken by a 1-man guild in less than 4 secs. Rich admitted he forgot to buff emp HP thats why. Anyhow we assaulted the castle and was able to break the emp with 3 seconds to spare before the end of WoE.
Then here comes morbid complaining in town about Rich allegedly extending woe by 3 minutes. As to whether thats true or not, its immaterial, whats important is that their big guild minus babymaker left the server and RichRO lost almost or even more than half of the pop'n.
So days went by with no controversies.
Then came one day when my guild had to help an allied castle in defense. We stood there with very little action for the 1st 1.5 hrs// [yes, woe here lasts for 2 hrs, everyday] then with 30 mins left, here comes a 3-man party consisting of Babymaker[Clown], Haseo[SinX], and Braska [High Wizard]. There were a bunch of us defending, a party of more than 10 with at least 2 sacrifice pallys, 1 acid demo Creator[me] and bard-dancer combo, and high wizzes. It is clear that they are not going to get thru the defense no matter what they do. They tried to assault the castle for at least 4 times with no success.
Then came the last2 minutes of WoE.
It turns out that GM Rich "forgot" to turn the party warper off. He has not yet corrected the party warper npc script at that moment. As Ive said, the game still is practically on beta test.
The 3-man party abused the party warper by using it to warp back whenever someone in their party dies, even straight to the emperium itself. So long as 1 of them stays alive, they can have a warp point to go straight back.
Then I complained to rich with 1 minute remaining. He was afk.
WoE ended and the sieging guild got the castle.
So what?
My allied Guildmaster and I complained to rich and we asked him about what happened. He said he forgot to turn the party warper off and it was his fault. We understood that but then there are some things that were left hanging:
1. The party warper was not supposed to be used in woe and yet the other guild abused it. This is a de facto bug so the offenders can be charged with bug exploitation.
2. One of the members of the offending party is Braska the high wizard which everyone knows to be Rich's alt character.
3. Braska himself abused the party warper.
Rich's Official Stand:
1. Braska was not being used by him at that moment.
2. All he can do for the offenders is to warn them.
3. He cannot possibly penalize them because he doesnt wanna lose server population anymore [in light of the mass exodus by Guild Morbid Outlaw and Guild Wings of Fire]. So even if what they did was wrong, he will do nothing to punish these guys,
But then in light of all that has been mentioned in this post it made me ask a few questions:
1. Citing morbids woe case, he penalized morbid and jailed the offenders. This time he doesnt wish to. So it seems like rules can be broken if the server is desperate to keep its numbers.
2. If Rich wasnt controlling Braska, isnt the account owner himself responsible for his own character. Suppose I go around prontera cursing and scamming everyone and logs off, then a GM pms me and asks me to explain when i get back, can i just claim that someone else was using my account and so im free to go? Ridiculous.
3. If it was indeed GM Rich who was controlling Braska, then it shows that the same guy who should uphold rules is the same person to break them out of desperation.
So what the bottomline?
This server's administration lacks integrity. They make rules that differ in implementation even if the circumstances which arose are essentially identical. They have shown that they dont care if players cheat as long as they dont leave. Its a desperate case. My whole guild and the other allied guild chose to leave the server. Because even if we know that RO is just a game, we still know that we play to have fun, and it aint no fun when we are getting cheated by the same person that we were supposed to trust the most. Beta test or not, integrity is something that is to be practiced and displayed.
So, wanna try RichRO?
