InsomniacRO review (12th of January 2011)
« on: Jan 12, 2011, 03:36 pm »
Let's start out with the server stability... I started on InsomniacRO about new years. Since then, this is the only time I've seen the server down. Don't know how long it's gonna be down, or if it's coming back up.

So the server availability is questionable... however, from what I have been informed on the server, there are measurements being taken to get a domain and hosting server. This would make all the difference.

The server stability itself is VERY good - much better than expected. Only in rare cases will it lag, if at all, and I have never seen myself any mass forced logoffs or other problems. The server does, however, seem to be incomplete in some aspects, which does lead me to believe that it isn't all that great in some senses.

The community is great, in general. People are friendly, will share builds and give tips. Of course, not all are like this - some are closed, quite people, who won't respond, and most often leave you wondering if they are bots or not.

The events are virtually non existent from the community. Me and a friend made Mythbusters (me as Adam, my friend as Jamie). It worked very well, and was hilarious. Pity few people saw the impression.

The GM's appear online so few times it is quite sad. But when they show up: it is a miracle. They are wonderful people, great pals, helpful, insightful, clever, brilliant, and they actually make the game more fun! The lack of presence is sad, but the lack of players is to blame. The server is great, it just needs more people.

So, I'd say the GM's only problem is presence. But that's also a problem of the community - not much to do when only 2 players are online on the server.

With the GOLD ROOM, there is no need for economy - you harvest critters and get what you want, it just takes a while.

Guild competition is sometimes ferocious, however, even so, it still is a lot of fun! Taking Prontera center castle is a real challenge!

Class balance isn't good... just a few classes are good, like sinx, lord knight, paladin... classes like Taekwon, gunslinger, and others are left to fend for themselves, making them fun, but not really useful in pvp. Priests can barely attack. Sages have virtually no skills. Whitesmith is kind of a draw, but most often useless. Stalkers are annoying with full strip. Creators are only good for full chemical protection.

Snipers can barely hit anything, let alone cause damage. I'm not sure how well gypsies fare, but clowns have no use. The most overwhelmingly powerful class in the game is monk, which with two asuras can take out ANY character - even max limit ones. Sinxs with deadly poison can do nearly the same.

The game server is good, but for PVP, you need to know which classes to play, same for WOE.

I've played this server for a year and half. I really disagree with your statement, "you need to know which classes to play".

All I saw in the server was Sins, Champs, and LKs. Archer, Merchant, Priest, Mage classes all failed compared to LKs, Champs, and Sins. The server has no balance between classes.

As for the Admin, the Admin comes on like once every 4 months? As the statement goes, "Once in a blue moon" to put it into perspective.

I'm not saying the server was "horrible". I did enjoy the PvP but that is because I had a Sin and LK. I didn't bother playing any other class because my butt would be owned. I only used HW to farm.. sad.

I can't believe this server is still alive.. I remember playing it like 4 years ago when it had a pretty large community of pvpers.

Takes me back to when genocideRo was around and they were competing servers, the server back then was pretty uneven like stated above.

I don't know why players play there now the admin obviously doesn't care about the server.

Shame there isn't many servers around like it anymore.

I do have to say, I was never really a fan of Insomniac. Mostly because there's been so many rumors/drama swirling around it on the inside, it's just... eh.

But for anyone looking for a high-rated server just for the kicks/competition, I suppose I'd say go for it.
