If you're asking why,

It's the feeling / excitement over the game knowing you reign supreme and the you are invincible.

And no one calls you Noobs, except real players who choose Skill over Godly Equipment.
So basically, the Noobs stop calling you noobs.

What brings people into servers where donations are required to be able to do well in WoE? I remember old AnimaRO having 2k players despite their insane donation scheme: lord kahos and custom donor mvp cards in a 5/5/3 low rate server!

Lastly, whats wrong with centering a server around donation items? The GMs on the server make sure that balance is maintained or as close to it as possible, and the revenue from the donations allows the server to stay alive, as aegis requires alot of expensive resources to run.

Uh... there is no balance if your idea of it is "make sure everyone has this set of donator items in order to stand a chance at victory". Furthermore, you are practically saying "what's wrong with making a server with the implicit purpose of earning money?" To which, the answer is: even though private servers are sort of a grey area regarding legality, making a private server with profit purposes is clearly the kind of thing that will get Gravity lawyers on your tail (as soon as you become a large enough target).

On a different note, saying you are free when you clearly want to force people to pay to get anywhere is... deceitful, to say the least.

i am ready to get flammed but i dont see anything balanced about a server with no customs. donations on servers like that are usualy customs and they are usually made to make pvp more balaced. while every class has their place in a team setting, walk into pvp without a prof, pally, sinx or champ and you will get bodied. i find that customs while alot of the times are unbalanced, if done right can make the game incredibly balanced and can have each class stand a chance against each other.

Ama, I pretty much agree with you... But I like servers that allow you to obtain the donates by doing things in-game as well. You can just take the easy way out and donate if you're lazy.

And you totally just dug up a 2 year old conversation ;D.

heh. sorry i guess, i wanted to play ro again and was looking for a server with balanced customs and then i started looking at all the threads and happened to reply to this one. we all go back to ro mode sometime right? i definatley know where you guys come from with the whole throw a couple dollars down and be as strong as the guy whos been playing for 2 years type of thing. but those same people will throw some more dollars down and trade you a donation item becuase you hunted quest items or something like that, use that to your advantage. i have donated in the past but i dont find the hunting aspect so terrible, as boring as it might be, that i want to waste so much money on items in a videogame. i just use that hunting time to have a nice convo with some1 in pm or in guild chat or something like that. for example i played hiddenro (r.i.p) when it was actually populated and fun, never donated once, but had like 6 or 7 donation items. if youre better then them it doesnt matter how they got their gear, they still prolly wont be able to beat you (unless the stuff is unbalanced). i do very much prefer that those items also be questable though but its hard to find balanced custom items and even harder to have those items be freely obtainable on top of that.
