What do the People Want?
« on: Sep 04, 2009, 04:36 pm »
I am here on a  quest to find out what the people of the Ragnarok Online Community Are After in a Server.
What makes a Server want to be played?
How would you set up the server so people would want to play your server and not some ones elses?
What Commands are you looking for?
What Rates Are you Looking for?
Should the Server be Fair or Average or Totally Easy to do stuff?
Are you looking for a Server that is mainly a PVP server?
Are you looking for a server that has so many customs you do not know what to do?
Are you looking for a Server that is completely up to date on all the Ragnarok and Ragnarok Renewal Software?

Please post your thoughts below Thanks To all who take some time out of their day to post thanks!

Alright, here's a server that I would love to play on.

Max Level: 99/70
Rates, I'm not too concerned about, but the drop rate should be 20-30x

I would love to see a server where the idea of "OMGZ I MAK GUD DONATEZ PPL BUY" is kicked from the very start. I hate servers with OP donations. I mean, 2-slotted meninjard with a bonus to STR? No thanks. Also, wings have made RO look like something from a poorly-done movie. The only wings I've seen that have looked even remotely good are Pandora's (Not sure if she herself made them though. I give credit to where it's due  :)).

Plus, I'd like to see PvP enabled on all maps, excluding towns. Although you'd have to be at least level 70 or something to actually do battle. It would be sweet if you could go around with your friends, creeping through dungeons looking for other like-minded parties to fight as oopposed to the over-done PvP rooms.

Also, a server with great advertising, so the population is nice and high.

As for tweaking existing mechanic, the only things I would do to balance is to keep MvP drops low, but put normal monster's drops at higher rates. This'll keep too many high-powered items out of the server.

And I say NO to third jobs until eA gets them working 100%. Also the same to the renewal system.

I would like a 99/70 server.
A server that could last for atleast 1 year.
Rates below 1k
I know this sound wierd. But I would like to try a server without MVP items.. But MVP's are ok.
I would like statless customs.
I don't like 3rd classes..

Hmm, this will be a little strange.  In general, i look for something that is not RO.  Yeah, weird, i know, but what interests me is the server owners who get the idea that if i wanted to play IRO, i would be on IRO.  I don;t want to play IRO, so i am not there.  Believe it or not, it is actually really hard to find admins who get this, most just make "IRO with hats" (or wings).

Show me you have really thought about the game, and how to take what IRO did and go that next step.  In general, i like low rates that play like mid to high rates, usually due to the admin being really inventive.  Sometimes its custom skill trees, sometimes its a stat boost across the board, sometimes some really well done wings or hats that are quest available (no donates, i am so sick of donates i won't stay on a donate server five minutes).  Something that takes the game to that next level of play, other then just tweaking the rates.
in a list;
1) I should have to relearn the game on every server I play.  If the normal builds work the normal way on your server, you fail.
2) This is not IRO.  Show me how much you are not IRO
3) PVP is over rated, most people who do PVP don't know how.  Those who know, know PVM is more challenging.  Try soloing a bloody knight sometime.  Then try soloing ten...without dying.
4) poring coins are really cute.  So are most of your 2 minute "find the whatever" events.  If i wanted cute, i would play maple story.  Make events that are going to take the whole server a whole afternoon to clean up... I mean, "finish".  Like 50 undead...of each type...in every town.

In general, it should be easy to PvM low to mid level mobs, but the events should be a challenge that puts WOE to shame.
The most dangerous thing a GM can do is to play NPC combatants as if they have brains, goals, and the desire to remain alive.

@lrellok:
I find your PvM > WoE mindset pretty disturbing, but oh well.

I myself would like a server where only PvP and WoE veterans play. People who actually know what they are doing, and guilds which have strict hierachies and consist of only the most disciplined players. No scrubs to pick on, every guild has to try and outsmart/outplay other guilds of similar standard.

There should be a controlled number of MVP cards and Godlies. Say, each guild is given 1 GTB, 2 OH, 2 MP, 5 GR, etc; after removing all card drops from certain mobs/MVPs. This will force people to not overly depend on quantity of monster drops.

However, gears will still drop as per usual, because there needs to be MVP competition too. A guild leader once told me "Every successful guild needs to be active in all 3 of the WoE, MVP and PvP scenes." That was on officials though.

Rates should be high overall, but very low for boss drops. There should be no customs at all.
XileRo is the only HR I know that has a reasonable PvP system. I did watch the RWC like you said, all I see is people spamming the room like every other gang fight there is in RO.

PvP is an everchanging strategic approach, while mobs like bloody knight retain their same AI over time, eventually if exploited enough.. a general strategy is formed and executed. I don't see how this is more challenging.

But there are a lot of monsters you can try to kill. Right?

I like to play both midrates and low rates. For low rates I like it to be somewhat kRO like, for mid rates I love customization. Custom gears, monsters, maps, events, etc. BUT NO WINGS! Also WoE must be competetive and have at least 3-4 large active guilds. That's where population comes to play, anything with 100+ players (non vendors) at peak times at least, would be great.

Population is really important on a server, I think most people would play a server with less features and a high population than more features and a low population.

My 2 cents.

-Server that has a non corrupt, friendly, dedicated staff.
-Super High Rate, ALOT of custom quests.
-Large community.
-Easy to access website & forum board.
-Friendly Community.

This greatly represents SeasonRO, except for the large community and rates.

Hmm, isn't there a topic asking this exact kind of thing every few weeks?
Sigh, unless you can have tons of people who will be there to play at open time, don't bother, too many servers already =P

He's right ^

If you're going to make a server, decide the basic for yourself (at the very least rates), everyone has different tastes, can't please all, just look at the rms listing and you'll see there are thriving painfully-hard-grinding-low-rate as well as super-easy-high-rate.

But mostly ask yourself if you're willing to commit work and time on this or if it's just a fancy, playing is for your players, making/owning/starting a server is work, a lot of work.
heRO is a great friendly, sociable yet WoE active, unique and fun server of 5/5/3 rates with 400+ players, give it a try!

@Irellok, who wants to go solo a bloody knight? 1 spawns somewhere in glastheim, I don't feel any better after I kill them, it's not a live person playing RO, it's a computer that was put into the game, I play RO for the other people, I can't wait to pvp and WoE, I can't believe people play servers with rates of 5x/5x/3x if the population isn't well over 100, if I wanted to play a game by myself and just level up I'd play Fire Emblem on my Gameboy Emulator, I can only play servers with low rates if there's a lot of people. I'm a PVP/WoE type of Player
Top 3 Town BGMs - Theme of Al De Baran, Izlude and Geffen
Top 3 RO BGMs - One Step Closer(@go 15's BGM), Yetit Petit (ice dungeon BGM), Rose of Sharon (Veins field 3 BGM)
TOP 4 GMs - GM Meep, tearbleu, GM Amemeep, GM Castiel - Honorable Mention - GM Fite, GM BlueDrops, GM Fite, GM Nicholas
Top 3 Hardest MVPs- Naght Seiger, Entweihen Crothen, Satan Morroc
Top 3 buffs- Assumptio, gloria, aspersio
Top 3 NBA Teams- Cleveland Cavaliers, Lakers, Denver Nuggets

Me and Squishy love tearbleu/GM Meep/GM BlueDrops!

A community full of cool and interesting people, and rates that don't make the game way too grindy, but not too fast either.

It's been pretty hard so far, but I think I found something almost like that :( Sadly, the population has been dying recently, and only the annoying people are left :( :(

@Uzam
you know hes right? lol. people want rates where they can get the max level in under 4 days and @go...honestly if your server doesn't have 100+ players and u don't have a teleporting command such as @jump or @go no ones going to play because hunting is going to be boring its not like its iro its a private server. also no OP donations customs that look nice not ugly donkey customs like super fat donkey angel wings>.< try to be original and players will come.
Are u angry nigga? Go post about it then!

All servers start with 0 players, and not all servers start off as high Rate because "people don't want to play RO the way it was meant to." ... So I don't quite get your logic, DeadOwnz.
