I'm thinking of starting a new Low-Rate Ragnarok Private Server. This time, it's a unique one. Sort of a hybrid but very balanced as far as I know. It hasn't been released yet but I already coded a simple website for it just a few hours ago and have been working on the server itself whenever I have the time. I released this server before and reached around 10-20 active players but I got too busy and had family issues. Now that's sorted out, I've started working on it again. :)

I haven't released the Control Panel and the client for the public yet as I am still working on the client. I work on this server alone and do have a job as a Software Engineer during the weekdays.
If you want to learn about the features and why it is unique, kindly check out this website http://rememberro.tk/. :)
Or if you are lazy or probably despise the website, here's a bit of an info for you.

Playing in a low rate server can be boring especially if there are very few players online (young server problems). In this private server, you can choose to start as a level 85/60 Transcended class* of your choice **(not available for ninja, soul linker, taekwon master) and get started with hunting your gears. Since this is a 1x/1x/1x low rate server, the balance will remain and everyone has equal starts.

Since most RO players love PVP so much, I have implemented an hourly Last Man Standing Event so that players won't get so bored in farming or leveling. Since you have a level 85 Trans class, you can immediately join this event on par with other players. If you win this event, you'll get an Event Coupon as a prize. :)

I'll also be adding other types of automated events once the server is online for the public as not all players like PVP. I intend to make everything automated, I avoid recruiting GMs as my experience with having other GMs is kind of painful. Once the server is online, you won't be seeing GMs running around and chatting with players. That's not how Ragnarok is supposed to be anyway.

You can use the event coupon to buy Field manuals, bubblegums, buy levels, costumes. About buying levels, yes you can. You can buy them if you have obtained the required amount. So joining the events can truly help you out as well in a really fun way. :)

I have created a subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/RememberRO/ for those who are curious or looking forward for this project of mine. I intend to make this server as balanced as it can be. So donation rewards that could give absurd advantages will never be allowed. The only thing that you can get as a reward for donating are Event Coupons. That's it. :)

Also, here's the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RememberRagnarokOnline/?fref=ts if you are interested. It has 300 likers already from my previous attempt to run the server and a Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/282988558544265/?fref=ts as well.

I would be glad to find anyone interested for added motivation as I am kind of losing it since I'm alone. haha. So if you are interested, post on the subreddit!
Who knows, once the server grows, we might start adding WoE, and other interesting stuffs that can help keep the fun and balance without doing hard core modifications of the native mechanics.

Brief background about me: I played Ragnarok since it was released. I was probably 10 years old back then. My brother and I have managed a private server back in 2007 too, a super high rate private server that was able to get around 500 active players. Sadly, it got hacked and we were forced to close it (Back ups were compromised).

I became a GM in a couple of servers before and have worked with other aspiring private servers to start their own until I finally grew as an adult and have to leave the nest and start paying bills. I got so busy (even now) and stopped playing Ragnarok entirely. Now, I'm doing this for the sake of improving my server management skills that I can use for my own professional development. :)

You're not kidding when you say that the website is simple; a set of PNG images (3.5MB), non-framework nor compressed CSS, google analytics, and a simple layout. For example, you can resize and compress images/2-player-portal.png, like resizing to 400 × 244 pixels from the natural 1215 × 742 pixels.

After the reading website, what counter measure do you have against botting and is your idea of balance based entirely on server rates? Aside from the automated events and donation systems, which already exist elsewhere, do you intend to implement anything unique at all? Also, the choice of starting at 85/60 is a huge gimmick.

I doubt the project would gain any traction at such an early stage and you linked your reddit account with your subreddit, which leads me to think you're a pinoy, but now residing in Singapore. You might want to keep that private since I can tell what your political views are.

I think you would be better off studying and obtain certificates than running a private server, that is, if you really want to be competitive in your career. For example, a CISCO cert with a few years of experience can net you a 6-digit salary easy and option to create you own little business as a contractor.

If you're already busy with a job and had past family problems, then I would just forget about it while you're this early into it.

I've actually read the whole thing including Blue's solid post and I'm assuming that you're either...

1. Someone with a positive mindset regarding a ROPS who really wants to make this work.
2. Someone who just wants to make a quick cash grab.

If you're 1, then my advice to you is; You're not the right type of person to be able to create/manage something of this size. I say this based on what you wrote here on RMS and the things you wrote on Reddit.

If you're 2, then you know where to stick it.
I am not associated with NovaRO.
