the speedhacks problem

since there was some confusion on exactly how much effect speedhacks have, I made my own and tested it.
speedhacks do not only affect skills with graphical delays like arrow shower and kaite, although for those it is the most dramatic effect.
testing with ahk on the RMS test server, EVERY SKILL IS AFFECTED. it is not an instant 190, but someone with 182 atkspd+speedhack can reach the effect of 190atkspd. this is nearly double the speed, and more importantly a severe game imbalance in favor of such cheaters.

there seems to be some kindof serverside atkspd delay. however it doesnt match up with a normal client or what it should be. its possible it was done this way to accomodate laggy players, but the price to pay for that is now too high. the latest harmony tries to counter this but has wierd timing problems of its own. the best solution is the have delays properly enforced within the server software itself. don't forget serverside delays for the purely graphical skilldelays.

so, can it be fixed merely by adjusting the atkspd formula serverside? does that cause any strange problems?
will some new server fix this and hog all the players tired of this cheating and game imbalance? will eathena step up and fix this in default installations?

Thoth

for those who don't know the atkspd formula:
0atkspd is .25 attacks per second
100 is .5   attacks per second
150 is 1    attacks per second
175 is 2    attacks per second
180 is 2.5 attacks per second
190 is 5    attacks per second
195 is 10  attacks per second
200 is infinity and will crash your server

Relics

ASPD is inherently flawed. The game allows you to do ie: 180 ASPD so 2.5 attacks/second but it's nigh impossible to spam it consistently, yet a program like AHK can make full use of that 2.5a/s.

Increase the window of input where you can chain an attack (before animation overrides it) and lower the amount of attacks/second so that it reflects what a person can actually press/spam.

Thoth

every serious guild these days uses macros and ahk
I find speedhacks to cause more grievous game imbalance

thats the best way, but kinda impossible
Perseus did that some years ago at Chronos RO and it was a fail

server sidedelays have to be acording to aspd and should be exactly the same time as animation job delays, pretty hard to do

seems like harmony is the only option we have.

compared to all the trouble of setting up a server, sounds easy to me. you adjust one formula, then add delays for a few specific skills and done.
test it properly, and most people wont even notice the difference.
it would probably save on resources too, compared to the harmony method

Lol 'trouble' setting up a server, yet 5 year old monkeys can set one up nowadays.  Sorry, just had to point that out.

best solution for me would be a server without any shield like harmony.
as u can see at soul of fur it works, there is only the nodelay grf but it will not make anyone lagg =)

Paranoid player detected.

So in short you want people to mash their freaking buttons to bring down one target.

lol did u even think about the ppl who dont use ahk because they dont even know what ahk is or that it even exists?? or romedic? thats pretty selfish reply if u ask me and yes ur suppose to mash ur frickin buttons to bring down 1 target thats how its  suppose to be or shud i say was lol, but i guess some s*** rly fck up how fast u spamm like harmoney.

So ye smash the hell outa ya keyboard to do som srs dmg.

I personally prefer playing the game manually. If AHK makes it so you auto-commit certain actions at certain intervals/times, then I'd call it cheating, like auto-potting a homunculus. At least, if that's the case, don't call yourself a skilled player of any sort since that "skill" is heavily relied on an auto-program.

You're 100% right. Now a days, a monkey sets up a server yet fails when they've released it cause they still don't know what the hell they're doing.

As for speed hacks, people are seriously stupid and arrogant for using them just to kill people. No wonder people b*tch about "Oh, RO has changed" well, maybe because idiots use speed hacks to ruin it. Yes, there are methods to try to stop or slow down speed hacks but don't work 100%.

As the guy said, we ALL use to smash our buttons in intense battles to bring down a target.

I prefer to hold the button down instead of smashing it a beelion times. carpal tunnel is not my favorite thing.
