If that is all someone deos to set up a server, then how did they give a damn? The only thing that decides if you should run a server is your ability to get a host? That is it? No coding knowledge required...just set it up and forget it and let the donation money roll in! Woohoo!
What I consider "giving a damn" is keeping the thing
and the players updated, not just dropping in every week to see if the servers are still up. Amount of customs has nothing to do with it. Quite the opposite, I've seen a dozen servers with customs where the owners didn't give a damn at all. So you changed this and that - great, now tell the players, make a thread on the forum and a newspost on the site, keep a changelog for public viewing, if you advertised check if the ads are still accurate - that's giving a damn.
Having a dedicated host and getting donations are contradictions. By "have a dedicated host" I precisely mean that
you will pay for it.
And coding knowledge? Of course you don't need it to run a server. That's what we have server emulators for in the first place, most options are already there, you just set the values you want. To modify the database you need to know scripting(Which is not "real" coding at all) which is easy as pie if you have half a brain and internet connection.
i sit in town and talk THATS playing!
No, that's chatting using an extremely bloated version of IRC.
