The effect of Tree of Savior into the servers you're playing right now.

So Tree of Savior has released today. And with its release, we've felt a huge difference regarding the player base.
Do you think that Tree of Savior will cause  the Ragnarok private server scene more death than ever?

Yozakura

Temporarily, perhaps. Plenty of RO players who tested ToS during its beta phase were extremely disappointed because it was hyped as the "real RO2," which it really isn't. That tag is ToS' curse, and I wouldn't be surprised if that kills it in the end. It's a decent game on its own, but it's nothing like RO. The players who want to play RO will just jump back eventually.

The effect I noticed is that I have to read about how crap ToS is all the time now, which starts getting annoying.

Unfortunately ToS isn't ready to be a good RO replacement, even though the design is good, it's not stable enough, doesn't have enough freedom, etc.
Maybe in a few years but I doubt it'll survive that long.

People will come back to RO like they always do, you just need a change sometimes.

Nekoruchii

People just come and go. I'm pretty sure everyone's hyped up right now and after a while of playing, they're going to look for another game or return to RO.

Ragnarok Online has always been a classic. An old-school MMORPG that people still seem to find their way back to its given nostalgic feelings, mechanics wise, the two games cannot be compared.

I had a taste of ToS' closed beta, and I have to say I wasn't very impressed with the game's overall concept, although I did enjoy listening to BGMs and getting a feel of the design aspect.

With the above being said, I highly doubt Tree of Savior will ever end up replacing Ragnarok Online. If RO has truly died or is going to, like a lot of people are claiming, you wouldn't see servers still flourishing with thousands of players.

Here is to many more years of RO memories!

Zero.

If only they decided to make a legit 3D version of the classic RO and slowly progress with the usual episodes and avoiding all the mistakes and imbalances some of the content brought about. But I don't think gravity would ever bother even after they failed twice at remaking RO in 3D. That's the only way I see RO dying or being replaced to be perfectly honest.

Yeah, there are still some things only RO has. Most notably for me the random spawn location aspect that forces you to explore the whole map rather than just camping spawn points and the completely unlinear quest progression where you really have to around town, talk to all NPCs always slowly learn a glimpse of the bigger story that's completely only happening in the background and then you are pretty much completely free to decide who to help. Also the fact that there are hundreds of maps you can potentially visit on the same level.

Tree of Savior doesn't really seem to offer this from what I've heard. It's simply a linear quest progression where you spend more time talking to NPCs than exploring the world yourself. And you just go from map to map rather than having a large world to explore. This and the steam requirements keeps my interest in the game low.

I'll put my money on most of the ro people playing ToS being people who have not played ro for a few years.

Not quite, you can actually notice a 30% decrease of population over all the active RO servers. And it's still paid beta!

The question is only how long will they stick with ToS and how many will return to RO after a few weeks.

It truly is time to sunset this game though.
But will the lessening of players reduce the amount of servers being created?

ToS is a cute game but I couldn't really get into it, and fell back to playing RO lol  /...
The mechanics are different but honestly I think that having it labelled by 'from the creator of RO' wasn't a good thing. When I played a lot of people kept comparing it to RO, which is understandable but they're different games. I think ToS would have done well if it was maybe 5-10 years ago and continued development but I think it's a little late for this style of game unless they really get good game mechanics. So far its interesting but pales in comparison to other games I think.

I'm liking TOS so far, been playing since CBT1.

But they've made stupid changes that their steam rating went down.

Basically you can't do any trading unless you have token(VIP) activated..this wasn't the case during CBT. They'll probably change it soon, almost every review on steam and on their forum complains about it lol.

and about linearity, I think you have not played tos recently, there's a bunch of stuff to do that they added in, it's no longer just 1-2 quest lines anymore. Grinding here is pretty fun for completing your item collection to get bonus stats, etc

If there has been any slight impact my only thought is, "they'll be back" due to overall impressions of ToS 2 RO.
Currently playing on this wonderful server. ♥

Quote from: Minabe on Apr 05, 2016, 01:50 AMIf they do it like RO (which it seems) it'll be open beta -> stables 1.x->2.x->... . It certainly can be a great game and right now other games pale in comparison to what the obt has to offer.

But do realize. The game is world of warcraft with RO stlye music and art...

I been to the end game, its very boring. Boss fights are simple and easy. Teamwork does not exist aside from "cast ability at teammate every X seconds"
The only challenge is how long you can handle yourself from grinding out silver to use on "attributes"

Overall pretty, extremely, overwhelmingly... Disappointing.

Nothin captures that intense feeling of playing RO endgame, where you f*** up once and the whole party wipes before someone can even type lol.

What you don't realize is that you played an unfinished game (which is constantly updated as all mmorpgs are). Idk why you think your opinion is somehow relevant with the game as it is now (nor why you'd think a cbt would have any kind of endgame, much less difficulty in order to deter progress).

No matter how "beta" is it. Some facts will not change. There is a linear questing line where you get most of your exp from, there are instances provided as content throughout the level ranges. Skills are on a cool down bases, where you have to consider cool downs along with mana type resource.

The list just goes on.

I am not saying its a BAD game, just very different from the fundamentals of RO and caters to the "modern" type of gamers who is much more casual then the gamers of the past.

Eh, ToS isn't RO's spiritual successor. It was made by the same guy/team, sure, but the connection ends there.

Well, apart from the fact that if it's the same game designer it's more of a "successor" than a "spiritual successor", there is also the fact that the project name was "Project R1" where the R1 obviously refers to Ragnarok Online 1, not to mention that the designer said that with this game he wants to do everything he wanted to do in RO1 but couldn't because of technical limitations.

But yeah it was never really advertised like that, it's what the people said and thought when they saw the screenshots and heard who the designer is. The official blog even explicitly said that the game is completely unrelated to RO1.

Usually talking is crap...

Facts show this :

http://steamspy.com/app/372000
600k players paid 30$ or 59$
You can tell , as the game become free last 2 week, population are sky rocketting... has intended
