That's actually a damn good idea for servers to do. But how the heck would that work? It's kinda useless if each server has some kind of crazy custom data.grf that makes actually picking the servers and playing all the servers with one install impossible. How would it actually handle the switching between servers?

Plenty of servers use this method. For example, Niktout RO is combining with an old server called Obstacle RO to form its Fenrir sub-server. There are lots of ''Ragnarok Networks'', where multiple servers come together to form one whole, each representing a subserver of the network, just like Iris, Loki, and Chaos on the official iRO server.

The need to agree on the "customs" so they can share a common custom grf is half the battle, the bigger issue is knowing that you are bonding the image of these servers together, even if they are different and managed by completely unrelated people, the players will associate what happens in one with the others, so there's the issue of trust.

dook

you can setup a launcher to use different grfs for different servers

Thats true. Even more so than the grf battle though, is the scripting battle. Some people may want a healer, some people may want a dungeon warper, on and on. Honestly, the only time I really see these networks working is when they're run by close, real life friends who can agree on the customizations.

SKOTLEX, wanna PAIR WITH ME?

People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.

That is the GOOD part, not the problematic part. Just having them be subservers and have different rates isn't really enough. The fact that people could have a variety of game experiences would be the beauty of it.

Although Skot is also right that a bad server would lead people to think the other is bad (I mean come on...imagine if someone confused Itakou for Skot! :p)

No no, you misunderstood, I'm not saying having a variety of different things for different servers is bad, in fact...That should be the entire POINT of having multiple servers. What I'm saying, is that a lot of these things either never come to term or epic fail because the owners can't agree on their respective customs. For example, Admin 1 might say ''But having a high card drop rate is our thing, so you can't just block it out of your server!'', Admin 2 might say, ''But its a different type of gameplay, I don't want it in!''. Highland RO was going to join with Niktout and Obstacle at one time, but they decided against it because they wanted to cut back too many of the feature's of HRO's gameplay to make it conform with the rest of the server. Like I said, this is why these things rarely work.

the idea of a stability circle came to me while i was playing phantasy star online. you know how they have multiple logins when you go to go online? well the same can be done with ro servers. if theres 4 different rates super high, high,  mid, and low on 1 sclientinfo anyone from each server can access any of the 4 servers. this means each owner has to have 4 servers ip and names in the sclientinfo. and the names in the beginning would be like this PoRO (low rate) VaRO (mid rate) RuthlessRO (high rate) MaRO (super high rate)
and if they like one server the owner of that server can put this in the motd go to www.yoursite.com to download the full game version so it shows whenever they log in and i didnt mean to make a link there it just popped up lol but you get the main idea dont you? oh and if you really want the grf files to be able to be used in the same folder the DATA.ini needs to be opened and be extended thats all.

my log in uses the _M and _F to make an account if i can get 3 rates with the same method *NO HIGH RATES* because i am high rate that would be awesome.
