sheer?
« on: May 25, 2008, 10:51 pm »
so a server just posted an advertisement claiming to be my "Sheer gaming experience."

Something sounded odd to me about this word, so I looked it up. ahem:

Sheer
–adjective
1.   transparently thin; diaphanous, as some fabrics: sheer stockings.
2.   unmixed with anything else: We drilled a hundred feet through sheer rock.
3.   unqualified; utter: sheer nonsense.
4.   extending down or up very steeply; almost completely vertical: a sheer descent of rock.
5.   British Obsolete. bright; shining.
–adverb
6.   clear; completely; quite: ran sheer into the thick of battle.
7.   perpendicularly; vertically; down or up very steeply.
–noun
8.   a thin, diaphanous material, as chiffon or voile.

Huh. Nice find. I always thought the only meaning was the second one("pure").

Good to know.

Nice researches, you've done there, superja. Thanks for sharing your results about it. We'll most-likely change it.  :)

Uh, i dont see the point of your topic...
It has so many meanings that it could be a good or bad thing, depends on how it is being used.

Absolute Gaming Experience

Which brings us to the question, how can experience be not pure or absolute?

Also, wouldn't it be better to say Pure Ragnarok Experience? Since this server is for Ragnarok, not games in general.

And this way, it's more like "Purely the game Ragnarok, without junk from other games thrown in, and no 3 billion custom items from Naruto that we thought looked cool but were really sprited by some lazy 11-year-old"

or something.

That was the point. Honestly the first thing I thought of was, "Something doesn't sound right with that word @.@"

You could do like, "Absolut Ragnarok Experience" and then have a bunch of gypsies holding bottles.
