Salary for GM's in private servers

I',m just curious. are GM's in pravate servers supose to have salary? salary in real curency.

I played different Private Servers and some of them are providing salarys for their GM's and the others are not.

Any information provided for this post will be much appreciated.

Theres a possibility that professional servers do pay but thats based on personal preferences of the server owners.

People pay freelancers as GM's, such as developers to code, add new features. I don't know about normal GM's.

Only big servers I know off do so, and it's also sharing some of your money since you get a high number of donations as a big server.

Never really received a "salary" myself in all the times I've been a GM or Admin.

Never really wanted one, either. :X

But I guess being a GM or a Admin is more of a honor role so gratification would come from being given that power and trust.

The servers needs the money just to stay online and advertise.  Most can't afford to pay staff, and even if they did it wouldn't be enough.  You're giving them power to help your server because they want to help as a volunteer, not because they want to get paid.

If your motivation for being on staff is to get paid, you should quit.

either way, imo the last thing a GM should ever get is cash for simply being a GM.....

Pay, only if they do some web designing or pretty complex code, other then that...yeah I just don't see it happening

If you are expected to be a GM 4+ hours a day, and you are not allowed to have any fun with any regular accounts, nor are you allowed to socialize with other players, then sure, there SHOULD be some pay involved for asking for those sacrifices.

But I do think most GMs were (ideally) previous players who cared a lot for the server, hence they have relationships with others, and do most of their GM work from dedication, and free time, an thus, should not be as limited by rules as in the previous paragraph.

GM = a volunteer work to keep a better community in RO, result = a great server u can be proud of (of cuz that exclude those who works behind the script)

I pay some major GMs in the hundreds of dollars when I feel they deserve to be rewarded.

But no I don't see it as a full time nor part time job.
