I can understand one-two day increased XP/drop events(I.e. Valentine's Day Lonely Nerds Grinding Event) but five weeks? It's enough to get a char to 99, transcend, and get to 99 again... twice. Definitely unbalancing and unfair for players on the "normal" server.

If you look at it, the changes of rates aren't that big. But, as Anti-Static said, the event is too long. Maybe half a week or so would do.
As for your questions, I'm not sure new people would join. They could just look for a server with permanent 8x exp rate. And I'm not sure if people would leave either. Some might like the bonus exp, but some may want the challenge. If they don't leave, maybe those people might just stop playing for a while. We can't really tell.

I think the idea is interesting actually. Increasing the rates directly on their regular server would help the oldies far more than the newcomer, it seems they thought of this.

On a new server it's not that easy to make it to 99 and trans that fast from scratch, well, it's much easier if you have access to your good gears from other characters.

I don't know if it will bring any new players, but I don't think it will make anyone leave, they might have fun on the temporary server starting new chars.

I wouldn't wanna be the one having to merge the database however, that sounds like a nightmare to me, hope they have a good plan for this ^_^;
heRO is a great friendly, sociable yet WoE active, unique and fun server of 5/5/3 rates with 400+ players, give it a try!

I see it not bringing in very many newcomers... Why? Well everybody's starting off with a knife [3] and cotton shirts. It's not like you can be a brand new thief, pick up a wind damascus for cheap from a blacksmith in pront and level happily in Byalan. There definitely aren't going to be any 2k zeny cards lying around or anything. I suppose if they somehow pick up 1k players from somewhere, yeah that'd be fun, but I think at most there's going to be around a hundred frantically grinding for five weeks.

I don't think any 99 trans people are going to leave, but the people who are relatively new, (i.e. I just got to second job on 4x, and now I find out I could've waited a month and done it on 8x) might be pissed.

In my opinion, exp events are dangerous in general... I watched a server get destroyed over it in the course of one afternoon. A couple of my friends and I had been playing for ~month, since it opened, and were mid-high level. Then some new people showed up, and when I and my friends were gone doing real life things, an exp event was held (3x normal rates) that allowed these new people to not only catch up but also fly past our levels. Because of this (and other issues including lag of death) my friends and I left, and the new people left as well because they decided that if a gm would do something like that, they didn't want to play there either.

Honestly I don't see something of that magnitude happening, but the reason you play on a certain server is you like those rates (among other things of course) but someone who really likes 8x isn't going to say "oh look, that 4x has an 8x server open now, I'll play there for a month then switch to the 4x one and be happy".

Hey, I'm a player and GM on the server at hand.  Actually, I'm the one pretty much handling this project.  Anyway, just thought I'd like to comment on some of the posts here (and free bump).

I can understand one-two day increased XP/drop events(I.e. Valentine's Day Lonely Nerds Grinding Event) but five weeks? It's enough to get a char to 99, transcend, and get to 99 again... twice. Definitely unbalancing and unfair for players on the "normal" server.

That might be a bit extreme (for most people, it is), but that's the whole idea.  One of the biggest reason for starting this event was to bring in new players.  As we've all experienced, starting over and over again on low-rates is no fun, and really kills the motivation to play.  However, a side-server with increased rates would diminish that fear.

If you look at it, the changes of rates aren't that big. But, as Anti-Static said, the event is too long. Maybe half a week or so would do.

Yes, the challenge.  From what I've seen, mid-rates have been a lot more popular nowadays, since constantly migrating people don't have to spend as much time on early level grinding/hunting.  However, this also removes what challenge there was on low-rates.  Hence, many get tired on mid-rates after about month, which is roughly the same duration as our event.

I think the idea is interesting actually. Increasing the rates directly on their regular server would help the oldies far more than the newcomer, it seems they thought of this.

Yes, that's the whole purpose of creating the side-server, despite it being more work.  People lose motivation when they only have a Cotton Shirt and Knife[3] and others have 99 auras and rare items.  However, a fresh temporary server removes that gap.  Everyone starts from square one.

We should keep in mind that this isn't just any raised-rates event that's meant to cater for the already existing players.  Yes, the current players would  enjoy the feeling of starting over without really losing anything.  However, this is an event directed more towards new people.  We're just trying to get them to fit in with us in a somewhat faster speed.  I would say it's something worth trying for everyone here.

i'm a player on pRO, so I'll put in my opinion. The rates are twice as high as normal rates. Yes it is unfair that on the normal server, we had to work twice as hard to get our levels and gears. But, rather than have everything we've worked for flushed down the drain, I'd rather make it easier for more people to join and trying to increase the population. I'm sure most people here have had their hard work turn out to be for nothing.

here's what's happened so far.

Initial WoE population: 800-1000

pRO was destroyed by it's players. in the simplest terms, when the biggest guild fell apart, because of their guild leader quitting RO, one guild became a dominant force. as other guilds came into power, when they got strong enough, the dominant guild allied them. this happened 3 times where the dominant guild would ally all the guilds that would give them any competition. of course, what happens is as new player arrive, they would move to the large alliance, and skilled players would join other skilled players, while everyone else was left out. for months, the large alliance would whine and complain about there not being action in WoE, and they blamed everyone but themselves. finally, after all the smaller guilds started to leave, they left as well. so now, there's about 7 guilds who make an effort to WoE.

Current WoE Population: 400

despite all this, pRO has to be one of the best servers ever. it has a very active staff, accepts NO donations, and has never had any issues of corruption. They added very amusing mini games to attain kro cash shop and other items. even yC has been known to play the mining game there for fun. lol.

since so many people seem to prefer the higher 'low rate' servers, i think this is an excellent idea. i just wish there was a way to get the event announcement across a larger audience. it would be best if another server was to die right before or during this event. jk  ::)

I just started playing in server yesterday. I'm bored of EuphRO and I wanted to find new community and went to check pRO and it looked fun. Mini-games and such.

I started on normal 4/4/3 yesterday. Didn't notice high rate event until today. I thought they had 2 servers, higher and lower rate, and I picked the lower rate. I didn't even realize it was an event until I started to read forums.

Server seems fun. I'm gonna ask my brother if he wants to start from 0 again in new server and quit EuphRO with me. So I think I might join. Double event rates are a bit high IMO since it's many weeks event, but I take the advantage since it's given to me.

Only thing I don't like is that I don't get to know people in community since there isn't that many players in event server.

They already had 1 exp event, now a 2ND one?! Srsly, thats retarded. First off, you dont have exp events, what, a year into the server? Even if it isnt on the main server, people are going to make new chars on it, go gain easy equips faster, make zeny faster, and then finally it will be tranfered to their, already owning character, plus they now have an addition 80x+ character. Probably transed.

Retarded yes? Do I think players would join? A couple. Do I think players should join? No, abel has reached insanity and stupidity with this one. GJ

P.S: I'd love to see how you handle situations where if one account on the side server is named the same as one on the old server. The characters merge into one account, and I will laugh at those problems. Either that or crash it. Btw whats the exact date you merge em? I want to see what kind of things get posted on the forums /slur
