When is it supposed to be out?

What are all the current private servers and players at those servers likely to do when it is out?

Pow

It is currently in open beta testing, but its only meant for Korean players.

You can sign up - and I may write a guide later today, or tomorrow on how to sign up for it.

Anyway, there are currently 2 emulators, that I know of, in development for RO2. I'm not sure what most of the community are likely to do, since its completely different from the original RO - and most people will probably stick with RO for a while after it goes private.

damn i can't w8 for a private RO2 server... idk if its true but i've read a blog/topic about private RO2, ive forgot the website...
pack that sheet!

If your expecting an improved free version of RO dont get your hopes. For one its gonna be like WoE from the looks of it and who remembers all those exploits and bugs that private servers had a couple years ago? Yeah, its gonna be that nightmare over again too >.<

Try our best to ignore it entirely?

RO2 doesn't look anything like RO1.

I'm sure a lot of people will keep playing RO1.

EuphRO has a private RO2 server made, but it's a VERY early beta. Almost all game features are more or less broken. Damage being bugged, making a party crashes the server, etc...

dont get your hopes up for a decent emulator. probly what you will get is crap.

for the emulator to be a success, they need dedicated programmers. good programmers are not enough, you need someone who will stick to the project. preferably someone who is a veteran ro2 player.

the project needs inputs from experienced players who knows the ins/outs of the game. i doubt you can easily find one who also knows the ingame mechanics.

current ro emulator took years to be really playable. and that took lots and lots of contribution from programmers and experienced players. even when ro has been fully studied (including access to official server files) there are still lots to be done.

This reminds me of how RuneScape "Classic" (original) went to RuneScape (2).  It was a completely different game (and also went from 2d sprites on a 3d world to going full 3d).  However, Gravity isn't stupid enough to kill off the original (at least not anytime soon, considering they're already making progress on an Episode 13 third class including Guillotine Cross and Rune Knight).  RO2 doesn't even look like it plays anything like RO1 anymore than some other random 3D MMORPG (*cough* FlyFF *cough*).

This is what they're doing to RO:
Stupid retarded cash items. Get strong with real money. That's IN ADDITION to their monthly fee.

Instanced dungeons. This is stupid, doesn't fit in RO at all.

There are so many updates that made the game suck much more. The Dungeon Kafra nerf and the Warp Portal nerf made the game MORE ANNOYING, not funnier. BTW, RO2 features a convenient always-with-you fly wing which can be used for a zeny/rufi fee. Using it again teleports you back where you were. It saves time. That's the opposite of what they do to RO.

Transcendent classes and their one-hit-kill skills. The game was balanced class-wise before transcendent came out.

They're updating RO all the time, trying to make it worse. That should bring players to RO 2!

I don't think Gravity is trying on purpose to ruin RO1. As I am used to say, they never create new bugs, only unintended features!

Sadly, RO's main branch, kRO, is in a land of highly competitive players (the land where Starcraft is a national sport, remember?), therefore when Gravity adds new things they do this with the veteran grinder in-mind, their target are those lv99-70 addicts who don't have anything else to do. So what do you do to prevent their income from leaving? Add even more powered items, even more powered classes, even more impossible challenges. At this rate no "normal person" will be able to enjoy the huge grindfest that RO has to become (since their target audience is so obviously the hardcore player)... and well, are we to be surprised? RO originally was supposed to be a balanced, diverse MMORPG for the masses (or so it seemed to be, a game with cute 2D sprites seems very appealing to a vast audience), but as soon (if not earlier?) as Trascendant classes were announced, the change of focus was obvious.

It is a sad thing, for RO was a neat little fun game (specially when you could MVP with a bunch of first classes :P ).
